Which bodies female and male are dominant now on the market?

I've been thinking which bodies, female and male are most used nowadays?

I haven't shopped in SL for ages so I'm in the dark now.

Ultimately I would like to apply for devkits.

Any idea which body creator has the best chance of getting a devkit?

I know there's maitreya, ebody, lithium(?).

I think there's also one body from the mesh project, but not sure if they rebranded.

The Legacy Body is the one you are thinking of.

They don't call themselves the mesh project anymore, they are just Meshbody now..

There's male and female bodies from Signature, Slink & Belleza

The 3 most popular female bodies now are Maitreya, Legacy, and Kupra. Belleza Freya is still somewhat popular, but Reborn looks like it's likely to pass both Freya and Kupra for those who prefer a curvy shape.

The 3 most popular male bodies are Signature Gianni, Legacy Male, and Belleza Jake. Kario is probably 4th, for those who prefer a more muscular shape.

Keep in mind the popular deformers and add-ons too. Maitreya Petite chest is pretty popular now for those who want a small bust.

Most Popular:  Maitreya & Slink are the better supported bodies while also good for those who want normal/realistic body proportions. Slink(Siddean Munro) has the best Customer Service & Support.

Newest Bodies : Cinnamon and Chai. they not getting much traction even when both are the best bodies yet!  but due to market over saturation of bodies/ rival fashion gangs excluding them, they might die a slow death like the old Chip Midnight Body did years ago when it was the most advanced body around but all creators ignored it.

I would not recommend Meshbody. unless, I was mad at you, didn't like you. then I would gift one to you  Kalhene, inthium, reborn. Belleza I do not own but tried the Demo's having mixed feelings while seeing limited fashion support. I never got into the whole 'my boobs are bigger then my legs' thing.

Where does linden provide those statistic's? or what large creator group has this posted? are you seeing this from your shopping experience or is she blacklisted from a secret trade union? 

When is "now" was that today? six months ago or 2010?

LL does not and would not provide stats like that.  It isn't necessary for any group to have posted this like it is a declaration.  That would never happen anyway.  Nobody is blacklisted from anything.  I'm not saying it is a collective decision at all, it has happened bit by bit, vendor by vendor as more bodies came along.

I shop a lot and at many shops/events and have done since my last long break that ended in 2011.  I went shopping yesterday and I will be going shopping today.
I notice what bodies are included and what is not and when bodies disappear from packs.  Once there were far more vendors with Slink in the box than there are now.

I also listen to what people are saying on groups, forums, blogs, etc.
Many clothing groups have had questions, complaints, discussions about Slink, one or more of the Belleza bodies and other fading stars being dropped over the years.

A lot of creators have run surveys in the past to decide what bodies and heads they want to support because it is too much work to support them all.  Clearly if a body scores very low on those, which Slink generally has done for a long while now, then it makes sense for a creator to drop it.

Admittedly I haven't taken part in any recent surveys, last few were maybe 6 months ago.  If a body declines in use dramatically though it generally never recovers simply because there aren't vast hordes of new residents coming in with no preconceptions to decide that is the body for them.  Pretty much everyone in SL baring a tiny number has already made their choice regarding Slink and as time as gone by fewer and fewer wear it and so even if many of them have bought Slink in the past, most of them are now using something else.
These things are a bit like a snowball that gathers more snow.  As people move onto other bodies and prefer them, support amongst clothing creaters starts to fall which in turn makes more people discard those bodies because their favourite clothing makers are no longer supporting it and no new ones will come on board and so it goes round and around.

Some creators never drop support for a now unpopular body because it is their favourite body, you can see this in effect when a rare vendor still supports something like Logo, Tonic or Altamura.

In addition, I have never heard personally of a creator who dropped a body and then later reinstated it because of a flush of renewed popularity.

None of this is a secret and is generally well known if you've been around a while and paying attention to everything going on in and around SL to do with fashion.

Whole lot of people in this discussion who have mistaken the question "what is your favorite body?" For the question actually being asked, which is "what is the most supported body?"

 

Maitreya is still head and shoulders above the other women's brands in support by the widest range of clothiers, shoe brands, and skin makers.

Maitreya, Legacy, Reborn and, perhaps, Kupra as far as new releases go. Maitreya has been on the market for 7.5 years now, so obviously has far more content made for it, even if some is rather outdated by now. Some specific content that is trending lately (squishy/soft thighs/arms for example) is where Maitreya is not the best choice, since that type of content works and looks better on more curvy bodies, so while it has some available too, other bodies would be the better choice for that.

For the male ones it's more complicated. Some creators dropped Jake when it wasn't updated for so long, some dropped Gianni because it's a pain to rig for, some just don't like Legacy. I'd still say Legacy>Gianni>Jake as far as new releases go, though.

Ignore the rest, unless you want some specific look or release made just for those. Slink bodies are dead, Cinnamon&Chai was DOA (and is one of the less flexible mesh bodies I've ever seen), and Kalhene remains very niche (and will never catch up). Freya got phased out when it wasn't updated for ages (twice), and those who didn't jump the ship to Legacy or Kupra before, because one was too thin and other is too much, did so with Reborn, which seems to be a fine middle between those two.

I'd say it's Legacy>Jake>Gianni>=Kario (for newer releases), but other than that the post is spot on.

Jake is the only popular male mod body currently, and I hope it stays being supported for a while, even though Belleza is dying. Kario is too big, Gianni has a meh shape and kit, Legacy's hud and complexity suck. Other male bodies are not supported well enough, and the whole market is not as saturated as the female one.

I don't follow the body market.
I use a Gianni male body and I notice on the marketplace and in stores, that practically all male clothing in the market have a fitting version of their products for that body. So it must be popular.
And I think there lies the answer of OP's question.

Go out and see what stuff is on the market and which names do you see the clothing producers (in the style you are planning to design for)  cater for the most. Than you have the real popular ones in a jiffy.

And dev kits, just apply and see what happens. If you don't shoot, you always miss.

Slink hasn’t been relevant for a few years now. If you’re finding clothes that are slink they’re likely old mesh or old repurposed premade.

I did something I thought I'd never do recently. I switched Debi over to Legacy Perky from Maitreya Petite. Blush and any other alts I have are still fully Maitreya because they don't use the petite add-on. I did this because I've noticed support for petite dwindle over the past months so significantly that it was becoming a frustration to shop for her. I know Legacy is a heavy mesh, but I'm not out in large groups very often so decided I would try the body. I am loving it for Debi.

As frustrating as it was looking for fashion I liked in petite sizes, I can't imagine how frustrating it must be for anyone shopping for the Slink or Belleza bodies.

I don't feel frustrated in shopping for my Freya body. It's seldom in event gift clothes, but I can find Freya sizes in older clothing, such as group gifts. It's always in the clothing packs I buy at Addams and Blueberry. It's in enough outfits at Vanilla Bae that I can have some strippable outfits. It's in enough outfits at Salt n Pepper that I can get some clothes there. I already have so much inventory, that I don't really *need* any new clothes, yet I'm still able to get new items that I like. 

Here's how I see it. There are too many clothing options for me in SL, so by limiting my choices I'm actually limiting my frustration. Persephone is limited by only being able to wear Freya sizes. Alycia is limited by usually only getting dark, gothic or edgy clothing. Tasha is limited by only getting white, cream, beige or light grey clothes, and mostly getting long pants and modest tops.  Evan is limited by only getting free stuff that fits Belleza Jake.

Sometimes having too many choices is more stressful than not having enough choice.

Debi is very limited in that she only wears conservative, not what you would call sexy clothing, so finding clothes for her is a challenge anyway. I just have found that shopping for Perky has been easier than shopping for Petite.

I think this is very smart. I have a roleplay focused alt whose body isn't even in the top 50 and I'm still able to find plenty of clothing to meet my needs. I have to admit that part of the incentive for buying that body (aside from just really liking it) was knowing that I wouldn't be terribly inclined to do a lot of shopping for her. I guess sooner or later support might wane to the point where I need to switch to something else, and it will be interesting to see whether I ultimately go for something more popular, another niche body with just enough to get by, or land somewhere in between.

I shop way too much in the weekend events. It is always (99,99%) a Maitreya size included. Yes, recently I found a store with Legacy only. 👀

So having a less popular body would help me financially. 60 or 75 L does not sound much, but the stores count on us buying cheap again and again. 😧😄

That was me joking... But to a newbie that does not know all about stores and how to shop, I would still recommend a popular body. Newbies are told to go at new events like Fameshed, and they will not find much to buy there for their body unless it is a popular one.

Maitreya, Legacy is obvious (In popularity strictly) Kupra and before I would say Freya, but now I think Reborn. Add on Hourglass and that makes six.

I do not make an argument for what's lowest in complexity, easy to use, price, stylish or anything else. Just what is easy to find products for when you are not a savvy shopper who know where "your" body's clothes are.

This is for the new citizen who has money to use and is not concerned about spending them on a full priced avatar. I am not so familiar with the free bodies. My shopping experience with the free Classic meshbody was blah, hunting for clothes was no fun. I swapped it for a Maitreya. I hear Lucybody is better, it can wear almost all Maitreya clothes. But then no creator need to rig for "Lucybody", just make a Maitreya size.
