Ooooh, my mom would have liked anyone who favored anise, so long as they only called it licorice. She was flabbergasted when I introduced her to Ouzo.

She: "I would never have thought to make liqueur from licorice".
Me: "Liqueur, licorice, it's not much of a leap, Mom!"
She: "Shut up and give me another sip."

It's nice that you're going to bat for your friend, Cxun, though I'd keep your expectations low.

Licorice, not far from ichor! Also, as they say, "Liquor is quicker" (than what, I forget - it was a punchline to something). 

I wouldn't throw Ben out, when emptying the bathwater. I've dated too many Asian guys for that.
