Gift Cards rant

This game offers things that no other game can, but it's incredibly frustrating wanting to spend hundreds of dollars in the game, but being unable to because

1.  Second Life doesn't offer gift cards like almost every other game does.  IMVU offers gift cards for Pete's sake.

2.  Almost every gift card available does not work with SL.  I've seen the post about blaming the card companies - but other games have been able to figure this out - why can't Second Life?

I feel bad for all the Linden employees that have lost their jobs because SL fails at allowing this one simple form of payment.

Many other 'games' are open to players of a wider age-range than is SL.  SL is primarily a 'game' or environment for adults, although it may not feel that way to some who bemoaned the entry of former Teen Grid avatars to the Main Grid.  Rather than rant about the fact that you cannot use gift cards to pay for things, why not find out how others pay for things?

ETA:  I would be interested in seeing your statistics on the number of LL employees who lost jobs due to residents not able to use gift cards.

I've never met anyone who's ever wanted a gift card before. You could just have your loved ones put money into your cc if you had to..it'd be simpler. Truly, for how cheaply and easily lindens can be purchased, I can't see the problem.

And it would avoid the potentially embarrassing problems that might arise if Grandma wants you to show her what you bought with her birthday voucher.

While I'm sure the data isn't out there on why they lost jobs - I'm sure it's more likely because of the lost income coming in more than it is any fault of the employees.

For privacy reasons, I want to use gift cards.  I don't exactly want the hubby to give me a hard time every time a Second Life charage comes up.

i think SL 'gift cards' are a good idea if i'm out in the supermarket i see gift cards for lots of MMORPG's, online communities and social networks but not SL :matte-motes-frown: they could sell them in denominations of 1 month 3 month and 1 year premium memberships and they could be redeemed to go premium or to purchase L$ to the value of the card. it would certainly be convenient for those of us who don't own credit cards or probably don't have any means of getting money in to SL. i'd certainly buy one if i could pick one up when i'm shopping it might even have a positive effect someone see's the card in a shop wonders what SL is looks it up and signs up then eventually spends money on L$ or going premium

I assumed that they do this to make it harder for kiddies who aren't allowed to be on SL. Thus the same reason why one cannot buy an Acess Pass ( which enables adult content) on IMVU using a prepaid card.

Yes, that is one big reason for SL to be shy about anonymous payments. Another big problem is the SL economy, everyone is allowed to sell stuff with L$ so it is an attractive target for money launderers.

Really, you defend that?...Gift cards are very nice to be able to use.  Second life isn't on my budget therefore if I get a gift card it is nice to be able to use it wherever I want...you would think that Linden Labs would be more savvy than that.  They could be making sooo much more money and be able to fix many of the problems that are in secondlife.  It just shows me that they are not very business wise and therefore more of a reason for me not to use my real bank card.

I honestly agree! No means to protest, but the card system is sucky. This, to my belief game is a play-then-pay (i think that's the term) kind of game. You can play it for free but to get a better expereince, you have to pay. And i don't understand why visa/mastercard etc gift cards don't work. Its honestly suckish. You know how hard it is to flipping get L$ in this game without a credit/debit card? I have 3 jobs and even then it's flipping hard to get L$.  I know i sound like i'm complaining, but i'm just stating my point on why i agree. Maybe because of some system error that they can't figure out? idk. I haven't seen a game that DOESN'T accept gift cards. I mean, truth be told, over $44 BILLION worth of gift cards ARE LEFT UNUSED.

Edit: sorry for putting in things that wern't meant to b there. wasn't thinking

They are only restricting it to people who actually have credit/debit cards. Not many people do and not many parents will allow them to use their credit/debit cards
, drastically reducing the range of people who can be a premnium and get good stuff. This game is a play-then-pay (i think that's the term) kind of game. I have 3 escort jobs
(which are the #1 way to get L$ next to dancing which i also do) and even then it's flipping hard to get L$. it's honestly not fair. they are favoring people with credit/debit cards and turning down people who don't which is a large amount of ppl. I know i sound like i'm complaining, but i'm just stating my point on why i agree. Maybe because of some system error that they can't figure out? idk. I think that says all that we need to know about you.

Taking the red part into consideration, I think that says rather too much about you.

That article is old. LL hired a lot of new people recently.

You could check with the Authorized Third Party Resellers.  They take forms of payment that LL won't.
