Where o where are you cyberpunk / post apoc RP? I checked Shadowrun and you wern't there, and the sim was closing. Then I went to Midian and the SAME THING!! The hell man? This is tottaly not kewl and is damaging our relationship .... *turns away all sad panda looking* You wern't even at Nomos. *sniff, turns back around* WHERE ARE YOU?!?!!! I MISS YOU MAN!!! Please come back!!!

I just want a sim that's filled with quality para-RPers, bound together with a coherent backstory, and set in a cyberpunk / post apoc setting. One or two people standing around afk doesn't count.

God I have nowhere to go!!! I refuse to RP fantacy, CARP, meter combat, or silly sims filled with disorganized one-liner babbling. So in all seriousness.... WHERE HAVE ALL THE COYBOYS ....err.... PUNK / APOC RPers GONE?!!!

Oh God yes, I agree so much. There's nothing I want more in SL right now than a new dark, urban, cyberpunk-y RP sim. Without meters or any of that pointless stuff. With Shadowrun closing and Midian dead, it's getting desperate. I can RP fantasy too, but I miss my cybernetics and genetical enhancements...

I think the RPers are still very much alive, but no one has any proper sim to go to these days.

Well, one thing I think is the problem is that there is an unwritten rule around saying that if you're a sim owner for a cyberpunk or post-apoc RP sim, then you have to be a completely incompetent tool. SRS and Midian's respective downfalls can both be attributed to admin mismanagement.

Money also plays a major part.

However, I have seen one big post-apoc RP sim out there. Thinis. The builder seems to have gone out of their way to make the most authentic post-apoc sim unhindered by the fact that people might want to play there. I mean, the lag is pretty bad, but the build is great. Sadly, the owners of Thinis completely missed the hidden point of post-apoc RP. That is, most people would want to play something resembling Mad Max or Fallout. Instead, you get to live the exciting life of a character who is equivalent to that of a caveman who's most exciting day consists of killing an animal with a stop sign, wiping his ass with his hand, then dying of a gangrene-infected papercut.

I feel you on your dislike of fantasy. Llorkh is a sim I play at, and while it isn't bad (in fact, I'd go so far as to say that the rules that Llorkh lives by, with not allowing limits, and its "Reasonable Right to Life" clause are something all sims should learn from), I am at the point that I am about to commit seppuku, or maybe a suicide-bombing of an orphanage if I have to see yet another sim ripoff the Forgotten Realms setting for the thousandth time. For crying out loud, at least use a different DnD setting! A sim based on Eberron would be excellent. Why aren't people trying that?

So, I wait. Wait and hope that maybe, just maybe, a cyberpunk (preferably one based on Shadowrun) sim will open up, that has leaders who can actually boast having more collective intelligence than that of a lobotomized lemming, but given what fake authority seems to do to people, I'm not holding my breath.

Omg I laughed so hard reading your post but I completely agree. It is sad to see Midian and Shadowrun closing but jesus .... the drama and 'fake authority' is just overwhelming. Anyway I hope that a good sim bubbles to the surface cause I'd love to get back into that kind of RP.

I'd like to see some kind of sim which was not based on some 20 year old table top game in which people are too scared to even follow the rules too.  This is live action media people.  If you wanna go rp some old fasions boring style then go find a bar or go to some comic book store.

What we really need in second life is a system in which everyone no matter if your some boss of some rp clan or some noobie who just arrived in second life has an equal chance of having fun.  Its very easy to land in a sim, gather some friends together and bully your way around the place stating rules and attempting to teach other people how to role play.  Usually ending with you comming out shinning in glory while the other person is humiliated.

Midian sounded like a huge porn sim and shadow run gradually turned into one too.  Thinis looks cool but I have no idea whats going on over there.  It looks kind of like a gorean sim lol.

I'd love to see a sim based on afew cyber punk manga but considering the price of a full sim at the moment looks like I'll just have to be happy making cyber punk themed avatars :).

Yes. When tier on a private island is US$300 a month, every month, and most RPers don't donate. Even those who do donate would consider L$1000 to be a huge donation (that's like US$3 with transaction fees), money to keep a sim going is probably the hardest part.

Midian, for most intents and purposes was a porn sim when it started. It gradually became an RP sim, with heavy porn influence. At least, that's what many of the older Midian players tell me. Shadowrun was becoming a porn sim, if one wants to call it that, because, well, surprise surprise, over half of its players were disillusioned Midian players. Thinis may well be in the same boat as a post-apoc rape/BDSM/slavery sim with the added squick that comes with the not-so-subtle implication that nobody bathes, due to the fact that running water was a thing of the pre-apocalypse, and that they live in the desert.

Oh, sorry, I trailed off... Most importantly, Thinis will likely be a porn sim because... wait for it... it's kinda funny...

It's pretty much mostly made of dissatisfied and disillusioned Midian players. Hell, the lead admin (I think she's the lead admin, at least) was once a ranking member of Midian's inner circle of elitist pricks. Make of that what you will. After all, this is just the ramblings of a disillusioned Midianite and retired troll.

I guess I'm railing Thinis a bit hard, though. Like I said, it still has a sweet build, even if laggy.

However, what this rambling and biased post does demonstrate, however, is that the Midian connection runs very deep with cyberpunk and post-apoc sims, as well as showing that if someone was smart enough, they might even be able to make a buck with it, or keep a self-sustaining sim, given the amount of players that flooded SRS on the first month.

Sooo... in conclusion... Come on, you cold-hearted, capitalistic bastards out there! Surely you can find some money-making potential in a dark, gritty, urban sci-fi/cyberpunk (Or any kind of 'punk' setting) sim that boasts good RP and no meters, because that's the only way that we will find the sim that meets our needs.

Yeah, I pretty much agree with everything Damienn is saying. As for sex in RP sims, it would be hard to avoid when making a dark, modern-ish sim. They will always attract rapists and victims, prostitutes and pimps. And, while I don't think a sim's whole theme should be centered around sex, it would seem a bit silly to ban those activities completely.

As for Thinis, and also Insilico, my main problem is the lack of available races to RP as. I'm hardly the only one who finds it kinda boring to only have humans around, there should be some other options at least. Shadowrun was a bit limited in that regard too, because like humans, elves and orcs and so on have been done so much already. I would love to see some new ideas there.

And yeah, bringing in money is always a problem, but making a successful sim that more or less pays for itself has been done before. I'm sure someone creative could do it again.

Yeah, I noticed that when I checked out Insilico. Almost every avatar on sim was a bot. o.O And again, the lack of playable races. This is naturally a major YMMV thing, but if I wanted to be human, I'd stay in RL.

And yes, it will be interesting to see how mesh is gonna change Second Life, and hopefully bring new inspiration to people.

Doesn't Insilico use the DCS meter?  Oh and watch out for the 100 bots in the sim which log your IP and send it off to Africa, Russia or China for a few lindens each
:D
.   The most fun part was knocking them off the side of the sim with mines lol!

No idea, visited there a few month ago, and found the sims quite nice / was in the group, and saw a lot of rp plots being done.

The bots are supposed to depict the city police or so, and i dont know how much Paranoia one should have versus them :D

I know how you feel even when I rather like cyberpunk then post apoc and want the big corporations fighting! .. the end of Midian was of course be foreseeable as it's agony was going on since at least two years and while it is sad .. I played there for a bit more then 3 years .. it might be good that it is finally taken out of it's misery and hopefully manages a fresh start (hopefuly with a rebuild of the once great, but now very old look).

And I loved Shadowrun! It might have been a fantasy setting with some extras but it still was the closest I know of a good cyberpunk sim with traffic, workign rules and good people to play with. Of course many didn't liked the shiny city as much as I did and stayed in the slum part most of the time, but I still had lots of fun there.

And I want it back!

Something cyberpunk! Futuristic!

Fun .. love .. action .. all of it!

But there is nothing and so I play in Llorkh that might be fantasy but is lots of fun too and has now many of those I met in Shadowrun and before playing there.

Well, SRS looks like it'll be a pretty good moneymaker, once the kinks get worked out, that is. I don't really know why the owner decided to just drop everything and sell it, but for what you're getting, the price isn't so bad.

I think my major issue with that sim is how RP feels less like something fun and cool, and more like I had to get a goddamn job. I mean, seriously? I have to put up with bullcrap in my regular life so I can log onto SL and WORK? I'm apparently not the only one getting high on the fumes from the meth lab in my basement.

However, the setting? Awesome. Build? Awesome. Just stop with the work bullcrap.

Another hope spot, is that now that Midian is pretty much dead, now a void will be left, and voids tend to get filled by ambitious individuals. Midian's only reason for staying as long as it had was simply that it offered what no one else did, meterless RP in the sci-fi/urban setting. At least, I think that's why. It certainly wasn't for the grand stories or the delightful company...

The way I see it is mesh ='s faster building OR just more enjoyable and satisfying building. This might bring in better builders (yeah, better than me...not hard to do lol) and this will step up the quality and hopefully not effect performance...the whole big plan of it at LL, I imagine, is the same thing. Better optimization possibilities+ better and more builders + present builders freed to do better = better all around.

One thing holds it all back. Sims are so much to run, people have more fun in faster running and more detailed games that are increasingly online and have social elements to them, and there are other game engines that might become more appealing as SL builders get better and start to awaken to the possibilities of modding games or using cryengine based virtual worlds, unreal, and ventures based on WebGL. Games become more and more social while SL is slightly stagnant on game performance. So, you can imagine a chart where all other games become more appealing. Just look at population stats with games that are sort of fad like.

That is one thing that is sad about SL, losing sims is hard on people sometimes. They miss them, they where building a world and not just indulging in a new fad? I guess we will see.

As for RP...wow, I would be happy just to finish a few cyber punk books lol. Fun stuff, crazy stories and people!

Thinis is post-apoc, VERY post-apoc.  We are however, not cyberpunk.

We're just opening now.  If anyone is interested in building gangs, factions, businesses - this is the time to get involved (I'm starting to feel like a spokesperson).   But, what you'll find here is quality, para-rp in a human only, VERY dsytopian environment with a build that I think rivals anything on the grid.

Have a look!  http://www.thinisthesim.com .

I've been to Thinis... I liked it as far photography is concerned. The way the buildings are placed and what it was used to be were clearly sent across for anyone who comes there to immersed in it. Granted, I was only a visitor when I was there but it was still one of the best creation I've seen in SL. Big pile of prims? I don't know man... I see it differently.

Thinis is -not- Gor roleplay.   There are slave characters in Thinis as there are in a lot of non-gor sims.    But, its not meant to be gorean RP or to revolve around a BDSM theme.   We would like to work to make the theme more clear if that's what people are perceiving.   Could anyone answer why they think the sim is Gor?  We are aware that a lot of people are wearing clothing that might be seen in Gorean sims because its ragged and pieced together as might happen after an apocalypse.  Is that the issue or something else?  Input would be appreciated.

We are trying to make an immersive, interesting environment that hasn't been done before.  Our story is new.  Our concept is a little more convulted than it needs to be, likely - but we'd welcome suggestions, ideas and constructive comments.

I'm not noob enough to mistake a new av with a new user. Obviously you two are connected to this Thinis somehow or you wouldn't get so upset over a handful of simple opinions. One more reason not to play there in my mind. I would count Insilico or Nomos as amazing builds but sorry, a bunch of laggy black twisted megaprims thrown over 3 sims is far from it in my opinion. To answer Silua, just read through this thread and people's opinions, they already explained why it seems gorean to everyone. But really you might want to open a new thread as this one isn't about your sim. Insilico is our best bet I would say if enough of us start roleplaying there and I bet if you spoke to the owners about the bot problem it would be addressed.

Whoa - I  never claimed not to be associated with Thinis.  I own it and this avatar is far, far from new.

I asked an honest question.  What is it about Thinis you find Gorean?  If you truly feel that way, please state what it is about the sim that seems that way.
