diamond Marchant Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 (edited) Missy's exact words are Quote I suspect people are starting to wonder what's up with this year's Birthday celebrations. Squeaky and I are deep in the planning stage and just about ready to open up applications. Watch the blog for information coming in the next few weeks for all the opportunities to get involved this year!' She has not asked for any planning input. Rather, her message is to stay alert for opportunites to sign up for things. Edited March 15, 2022 by diamond Marchant addeded pics of missy and squeaky 5

Holocluck Henly Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 (edited) 1. What would you like to see at this year's Second Life 19th birthday celebrations (SL19B) ? A stage by Mikati Slade and a stage by Walton Wainwright; the Moles get to maintain the existing / rebuild the Auditorium. Also a consolidated land mass of exhibitors & Lindens during prep; we present this event WITH them, just as we make SL a success WITH them. Only hide the LH Reveal region.2. What theme should it be this year ? Something with community oriented and don't pigeonhole us into a color or material or era - or wedding tradition. 3. Should there be a SL19B website set up ? Yes at least a resource page with a timeline & info. And no one should have to squeeze blood from a stone to get ahold of some logos for promotion. Let's be professional about this. Polenth Yue Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 The theme is steampunk (not a guess, they've announced it now). 4 1 1

Holocluck Henly Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 (edited) They did exactly what they should not have done if they CARED to celebrate community spirit. It all went pear shaped starting with Crystal. Suddenly the all-inclusive conceptual themes were pushed aside in favor of specific eras or styles. No one making these decisions has really thought this through beyond the superficial. btw don't they ask in their exhibitor application how you plan to incorporate the theme? What is Ancient Rome going to do? The Japanese or Weimar Era communities? Where do they fit in? Or Retro Modernism like Bay City? PS: Expect a lot of the same look as people run to Aley stuff for their builds. Edited March 17, 2022 by Holocluck Henly 3
Polenth Yue Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 Last year the theme was optional for exhibits, though there's more than just the classic steampunk. I'd do a more solarpunk thing with some steam vibes if I was doing it this year. But I need a break to work on other things and will enjoy what other people build instead. 1

PS: Expect a lot of the same look as people run to Aley stuff for their builds. You're not wrong -particularly regarding the Aley run (honestly, folks could do worse so meh). I haven't exhibited in like two years but I'm happy that they were willing to cut me some slack on my build. Also I thought that the theme was more of a suggestion than an actual requirement these days ...making the question of how our builds will fit in moot. I'm totally down for a Weimer build, by the way; or maybe even a Mad King Ludwig steam-ified build. Or heck ...maybe I'll whip up a little OTO something something. You can tell me The Great Beast 666 doesn't fit in with Steampunk, but I'd never believe you... In-world I've been ending up at all sorts of roleplay areas that are different variations on Steam, punk and other...so to me, this is an unusually inspired choice of a theme and I'm excited to build for it (even if my build ends up not being accepted). 1

True that. And btw I have no trouble working with an assigned aesthetic for my exhibit. Having been a community admin for subscription websites I often think beyond myself though. But the POINT of a theme is to have all these cultures & communities take it and apply it to THEIR aesthetic to show us what they're all about. That point flies totally over the organizers' heads and I can't imagine why. I suppose they were the only ones not sick of checkerboard floors after SL16B. Anyway see you all there Edited March 18, 2022 by Holocluck Henly Life is a constant edit. 4

Sid Nagy Posted March 18, 2022 Posted March 18, 2022 (edited) I wasn't planning to build anything so I don't really care what or if there is a theme. I will do what I always do with SLB. If I have some time to spare at that time I will hop in and have a look, make some pictures. Might say hello to some people I recognize there and that's it. And there are years that I didn't make it at all to get there. 🤔 Mmmmm, adding 1 and 1 together: Steampunk might be the next Bellisseria theme. Edited March 18, 2022 by Sid Nagy 3
