"Orbiting" should only be used in RP/Combat situations where everyone is in agreement.

Wait... you guys are shooting avatars out of cannons these days? I can't think of any other reason to orbit someone in a combat situation.

The only time orbiting someone would not be considered griefing is if the person being orbited has given prior permission. In other words, they are fully aware of what is about to happen and have a chance to prepare for it. Which, come to think about it, is how it is supposed work in an RP situation in order to avoid god-modding.

If you get orbed for no reason and warning. Chances are others may also get orbed for no reason and warning too. So therefore it doesn't make the place a good place to visit and I personally think places that do that shouldn't be listed on the destination guide. When I was new to Secondlife I used to get kicked from a few places just for being new and it doesn't make a place look good when you end up orbed for no reason. I have also experienced being teleported home without no reason before as well and I just think it makes both the landowner and that place look really bad.

Some places set a time limit for new avatars due to previous griefing issues they had when someone got banned and they would make boatloads of new toons to grief the club owner.

Place i used to hang some innocent got booted every time somebody else made staff and got boot rights ,  just to test their new found power .

Happened to me a few times because i was a regular and very tolerant , a test dummy . But it still annoyed me because what does it cost to say hey im gonna test my boot on you ?

I logged in yesterday for a tribute thing and the hostess and one of the performers were talking about a long time club banning people left and right for silly things. The hostess was banned from a long time club due to part of her costume features having a malfunction. Which was a prop sword that wasn't sheathing due to lag and violating non post rules.  Sounds like Barney Fife to me!

Or else they thought that starting a comment with "Wow..." was a bit rude (it's frequently used as an insult).

Really? How?

Mine is set to operate invisibly, and only eject (to home, which is generally frowned upon for basic orbs since it tosses you far away instead of just off the parcel, but I have public access with no automatic ban rules so if you get ejected it's because I manually added your name to the list of avatars to toss as far away from my land as possible.) if you have managed to make my avatar blacklist which has like two dozen people on it after a year and only three of those weren't violating the ToS when I banned (and ARed) them.

So, if you are adding names to a blacklist manually, why use an orb instead of just banning them from your land?

Because an orb takes ten seconds to activate so someone going by on the road won't get booted if they are blacklisted but (usually) won't have enough time to be a problem if they are... And the ones who are a problem in ten seconds are using abusive hacks that merit an AR, so the only way to keep them totally out is to own a private region, which defeats the purpose of having land in my book since I want to be *connected* to the rest of the mainland with roads that *go* somewhere and random visitors who are *usually* pleasant.

Just a little historical reference here. The Destination Guide for years and years hasn't been kept up well.  I am forever "floating in air" or showing up on an abandoned parcel or in someone's home when it was supposed to be a store etc.  So it is certainly possible that the club that you visited was not "the same" club as before.   I have flagged wrong destinations in the past but they weren't fixed in any sort of a timely manner. My own sites that have been in the guide and then closed (seasonal or LEA builds) were in the guide for months after they had exited even though I wrote repeatedly.

As with much of the SL website (again historically and this fed through to Sansar) it is often at the bottom of the todo list.

^ Exactly what happens to me a LOT of the time.       To the OP,   no one has ever kicked me out,  but very often the DG has old / broken links.

If someone actually invited you then kicked you out - shame on them!!!!

There was one place I visited once a few years back before I got my baked on mesh avatar I got banned by an orb for because apparently visiting in a classic avatar was against the rules and I didn't know that. I tend to stay away from public sims and stick to my own place. I wander in groups to find friends even through the forums.

You don't seriously think a comment like that would trigger a reaction like orbing somone for simple imagining something that's not there and with no warning. No, I did go there under this account, I was even offered a job by the owner personally by then, that I politely declined, so she KNOWS who I am, right? I didn't change User or Screen names, nothing that could trigger a reaction like that. I simply stopped going there because was usually laggy and I didn't like the kind of music they play usually, there was never a conflict between me and any other user there, not that I'm aware, but then again, I'm not a telepath.

What do you mean by "orbed"? Are you banned or did they just TP you home?

If you're not banned, you can try going back and see what happens. If they send you home again then they probably don't want you there for some reason. Either because of something you've said/did, mistaken identity, they just didn't like something about your avi/profile, or whatever. We really don't know by just hearing your side.

If it was for no reason then it's a bit troubling that it's in the destination guide which is what most noobs use for initial exploring, but ultimately, sim owners can ban anyone they want and that's something newbies will learn about SL sooner or later.

Orbited; Often abbreviated to "orbed".

I've never heard orbiting/orbited abbreviated to or referred to as "orbed" by anyone before and over half my existence in SL has involved dealing with combat HUD attack systems in one form or another.

Most of the noobs I've run into exploring are not even aware of LL's Destination Guide.

They, however, are strangely aware of web search, much to my surprise.

They might be more aware if it weren't completely useless.

Since they removed adult only destinations, the only way to find any is web search if that even still works because it seems like a crap shoot to me. 🙄

Either figure out some kind of ranking system and produce a usable guide or don't have one at all. 🤷‍♀️

An orb can be the best option for distributing security powers around your staff when there are insufficient group roles available or where control of the land group is indirect like it would be on a rental.

I didn't think it would be that hard to find Zindra on the map since it is the only continent that allows adult content.

Everything you always wanted to know about Zindra

Hey, don't forget Horizons.  Although, not sure if they consider us a continent, we are adult.  I've seen a few escort places come and go.
