Mourning SL Boyfriend Seeks to Partner with His SL Girlfriend Posthumously

Hello. I have reviewed the process required for SL residents to partner with one another. There was no direct information related to what I wanted to seek an official Linden Lab response about. Not knowing who to turn to directly for an official answer, I decided to ask here in the Forum, hoping that a Linden representative could reach out to me directly with an answer. 

My SL name is Journey Texan and my SL girlfriend was Ertina Loopen. We lived together inworld from 2017 until 2020 when she passed away unexpectedly. We had expressed an interest to partner with each other in SL, but her illness and passing stalled, then irrevocably changed our plans. After her passing, I created a charitable foundation in her name to raise money for the American Cancer Society as a Relay For Life team, converted her SL residence into a Memorial Home & Garden, and coordinated with others in SL to create other memorials to honor her memory. 

Based on the information I have read about partnering in SL, I doubt that it is possible or even allowed, but I wanted to get a definitive answer to my question which is: "Would it be possible for an SL resident to partner with another SL resident posthumously?" I would like to explore this as a unique and unprecedented request, if it would be considered by Linden Lab.

Lindens rarely visit the forums, and they almost never respond directly to resident questions here.  I suggest submitting a support case to ask.  Select a category that is close enough (like "Account Issue") and see what happens.

From the wiki page that @Quistess Alphaposted it sounds like a will is needed to be presented along with identification of the deceased and a death certificate. Testamentary letter or other appropriate order may also be required just to notify Linden Labs of a death of a resident.  I would imagine that if you can't produce such documents that the answer would be no. 

Please come back and update us on what information you get from Linden Labs.  My condolences go out to you.

You should certainly check with Linden Lab about this, but my feeling is that it won't be possible. Each avatar account is controlled by a single person. While someone may state in their will that another person is designated to close out their account after their passing, there's no provision for transferring that account or keeping it active.

If your friend's account is still active, her designated representative (after verifying their bona fides to LL) may be able to accept your partner request, but aside from getting her name in your Profile's partner box, there would be very little benefit to this. When her account is deleted, eventually that entry would (I think) disappear.

Thanks, Rolig. I chose to ask in this knowledge based forum because I actually did see a Linden respond to another, previous forum question, so I wondered if they regularly or periodically review the forum threads to help provide and clarify information in the knowledge base.

Thanks, Sam1 for your reply and condolences. I completely agree with your understanding on these points and, not being able to produce such documents myself, feel it would not be possible as well. At this time, with the information available to us all, I don't see a means to make my interest in partnering possible so I do not expect to pursue it further unless new, additional information presents itself that appears promising. 

Thanks, Lindal. Unfortunately, Ertina's account was closed a month after missing her Premium Membership payment, so it is no longer active. Anyone who was one of Ertina's contacts can still see her Profile; people who were not her contact now cannot see her Profile. Aside from getting her name and Profile link into my Partner box, there was no other benefit I was interested in. Strangely, a very few of her possessions remained inworld after her account was closed. I was able to use those as the basis for creating her memorial home & garden with.
