I think I've decided on the Gatwood model and a retro and industrial fusion for decorating.  I'm gonna need a shell for inside so I can bring the metal container texture on the outside to the inside. Since it's a 2-story model I don't need to plan for a rooftop garden and can stop looking at fire escapes as a way to reach the roof, but I'll have to figure out what to do with the wooden stair rails.  I have weeks to decide and plan (and then change my mind 10 times.) Also, I'll need a giant metal key like you used to find on the outside of sardine cans or spam cans... for reasons.

This is a good reminder. Patch has said many times that these are meant to be "starter homes". The idea is for people to want more, but to want it elsewhere, whether on Mainland or on a private estate. "Fly from the nest, little birds, and then you can make your modern houses look exactly like you want them to look!"

Amen Sista!

I like these more natural colors, because they don't clash and or compete, and therefore it makes the whole place look harmonious to me. The pastel colors that were up before reminded me of an area in San Juan, Puerto Rico called the La Perla. It was a colorful area, tropical, beachy and it was unique, however it was not a modern landscape. In fact, I am sure many parts of it were very ancient. I only viewed La Perla from a distance when I lived there, but this is what I saw:

I googled la perla thinking it’s a pretty resort town, and it is the slums. A colorful slum.

Just found my decorating design for when I get a container home.

This home style is really a blank slate to me.  I can't decide what I want to do and probably won't be inspired until I get one.  I'll file away the 60's peace and love style as an option, too ✌️ I do love the colors

That "peace symbol" is not a peace sign, it's a logo from 1957 for a British anti nuclear weapons campaign group called CND, the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament.

Recoloured for clarity ^

The C and D form a circle (or a globe), while the letter N is represented in the middle by semaphore flag positions for the letter N. Semaphore flags were chosen as it was predicted semaphore signals would be the only long-distance communication system to work after a nuclear war.

Lots more here on the symbol and its designer, the late Gerald Holtom (1914-1985).

According to this account, though:

Quote

Gerald originally considered using the Christian cross symbol within a circle and approached various priests with the suggestion, but the priests weren’t happy with the idea of using it for a protest march. Instead Gerald settled on using letters from the flag semaphore system, super-imposing N(uclear) on D(isarmament) within a circle that symbolised Earth.

(ETA:  though he also apparently gave a completely different version, too, at least according to the article, so who knows?)

I like this color. I can already see the mods through one door on the porch leading to steps leading up to that deck with window wall off the window make that walk in closet or laundry room. With the 15 meter above ground level limit plenty of room to add another story. Anyone with a smidge of imagination and creativity should be able to work with these.

I finally got a chance to visit the reveal, and I like the homes and the landscaping quite a lot.  I didn't have any pre-conceived ideas about what a 'modern' theme might be - to me it makes me think more of mid-century modern furniture first, and all of these homes look like they would look nice with that type of furnishings.   My mindset when visiting a new home theme reveal is more about whether I think I could see myself living in that environment, in one of the home variations, along with how easy I think it might be to decorate one of the homes and yards.  Reading some of the earlier comments here about all the windows made me a little concerned, but when I actually visited the homes myself, I found that for my decorating tastes, there is ample solid wall space.  Like with most of the other themes,  I have good feelings about this theme, and think I would feel comfortable here.  As far as I'm concerned, it's another well done theme.

I like the basic shape of them, and I had one or two thoughts. But the land impact can be hard to work around. There are 5 rooms with doors. I really wish it was an open plan inside. This house model also has a lot of free garden space. Of course I can ignore it, but I would like to have something there.

I enjoyed decorating the Victorian I have for Christmas. And I did not count every Li, and went with a 16 Li tree and I did a lot of decor. The result looks very good, and two rooms are empty. It is enjoyable to use other than 1 Li stuff. So how much I like the cube, I might have to go for another model.

Alright I'm going to weigh in on these and give my honest critique since I know I was brutally honest with the first reveal of these.

I want to begin by thanking Patch and the Moles for very quickly responding to our first set of critiques it show that they do pay attention to what we say and that is to be commended.  Just for responding quickly to customer reaction and giving the reveal a 2nd go I want to give them a thumbs up for that... 👍

On the positive side I see some choices in colors for the them on the exterior.  It may have not been my choice in palette for those colors but hey, at least it is a choice.  So I'm going to give them a gentle thumbs up for that... 👍

While the reveal region itself reflects a very basic flat and boring terraform the team did provide us with some photos of other regions in the theme which do seem to reflect that there will be features like bridges, some hills, and even some bodies of water that are at least big enough that they put bridges over.  So perhaps there will be some larger ponds the size equivalent of some of the earlier ponds in the Victorians?  So one of my strongest critiques was a lack of any interesting topography and it seems they went out of their way with these photos to show that there indeed will be some interesting topography on at least some of the regions.  I do hope those photos reflect the norm of what a region terraform will reflect and that the reveal region topography just happens to be one of a few less than interesting layouts.  So I'm also giving them a thumbs up on this too... 👍

My single most strong critique that I gave to the 1st reveal was that 30 homes on a region is WAY too many homes per region.  Patch Linden did directly respond to this critique and said that "these regions will run within our averages of 22-32 homes per region just like the rest."  I really had to sit with this response for a couple days before breaking it open a bit.  If we are strictly talking averages of Linden Homes in Bellisseria than I'm not sure how the upper end of 20's and certainly not 30's gets included as an "average" number.  I am hard pressed to find a single Bellisseria region higher than 27 homes.  I did some extensive counting and the highest i could find was a houseboat region that had 27 homes tightly packed together.  Even the campers as far as I can tell don't seem to go over 25 or 26.  Stilts which feel crammed are sitting around 23 on average.  Fantasy which are also pretty tight are again around 22 or 23.  Logs and Traditionals feel very generous in space and often dip under that low number of average of 22.  So when I hear numbers of low 30's included within an "average" amount I'm a bit puzzled and leaves me wondering if that is an average will this new theme actually have a region or two that dares to go over 32.  That would be unpleasant.  My optimistic hope is that the reveal region is on the higher side of the actual average and that a more normal average is closer to that 25 number (or less) that truly reflects the practical averages that I can find in Bellisseria.  With that said I did not count homes in the old 2010 themes... perhaps those had higher averages and Patch is including those in his overall average range?  So while I am cautiously optimistic that this region was on the higher side of homes that we will see in Newbrooke and does not reflect the true average, I am going to stay neutral on this until I see the actual rollout of homes.  So NO THUMBS at all for this one.... for now!

Here is an observation that perhaps reflects some of the cosmetic critiques others have pointed out.  I still have to give this new theme a poor rating on the interior space.  I think a couple of residents pointed out a few ways we can MacGyver fix the interiors on our own to feel more modern such as shells, concrete casings around the wood staircases etc... So i have no doubt that just in other themes Bellisserians will get very creative in add-ons to fix some of the issues.  But this just feels like a lost opportunity on the Linden's part to create a modern minimalistic interior that would have matched the spirit of the exterior.  And for this reason I need to give the Newbrooke theme a thumbs down on this area... 👎

Ok one LAST critique to give this a light hearted ending.... PATCH!!! What were you guys thinking putting POOLS flat with the road with the road having to divert around the pool?  I predict a lot of this in our future...

1298772721_carinpool.thumb.jpg.205b0585c801f450a374a025283f1909.jpg

On second thought though... There will be many funny tales of this people will tell their Grandavies someday so leave the pools... Don't touch them... don't give invisible barrier fixes to them... Let the Volkswagen diving competitions commence... THUMBS UP on pool placement!!!  🤣🤣🤣   👍👍👍

You do now realize I am going to be doing this on purpose, many, many times 😉

Honestly, I don't know why so many people think modern = living in a square block. That whole thing looks like a mess of jail cells and I LOVE modern living. This is not modern living. That is a jail cell community. Demolish it, google actual modern living, and use that as a reference which is what should have been done the first time.

When someone says modern living I always think of villa arpel, from Mon Oncle 😁

There definately was a pink and a purple house, which are not there any more. I mentioned them in a previous post before the region was taken offline..unless we had mass hallucination lol! 😁

We talked about them as retirement homes already the first months of the release in 2019, youngster. ;)

Someone pointed out to me the other day that as the sun rises and falls 6 times in a SL day, Linden Years are 6 times that of a normal year. That would make someone that has been in SL 10 years around 60 years old.

I've enjoyed all the themes and this one looks great too. I also wish Linden Labs would consider taking the time to upgrade the first traditional themed homes they did with some of the perks the newer homes have. Getting to paint each room separately and create one's own colors, etc.

I also still don't understand why the Trailer homes don't come with as many prims as the other homes. Not that I would need that many in such a tiny area but I do enjoy putting up a skybox.

We can not go with every type of modern or mid-modern home style out there.  We choose modern container homes with aesthetically asynchronous traditional drywall interiors, some architectural embellishments, and natural materials.  There are 3 exterior material types with 9 colors present each.

I'm going with the 'aesthetically asynchronous' explanation the next time I burn the dinner.

So for $12/mo or $32/quarter or $100/yr, youre not getting much.

Well... you're also getting a stipend of L$300 a week  x 52 weeks = about $65.00 US a year, in addition to the tier for a 1024 mainland parcel (worth $7.00 US a month x 12 = $84.00 US annually) if you don't want a Linden Home, I think.

You are historically correct, but as a flower child of the Sixties; it was almost universally known as a "peace symbol". The whole mid-century modern that people are so enamored with these days, that's what I grew up with. Been there, done that.
