The other, old thread was too negative!

What was your most fun job on SL, where you got paid in Lindens?

Post from the old thread to start it off  (hope I copied this correctly) 😎

(ETA - does anyone know how to quote posts from other threads as if it's on the same thread?)

My worst job was also my best job and was a lot of fun and I made a lot of money there..

I worked at a club called GOL, then it became GOL Elements then GOL kind of became the logo for Sensual Elements, Then that grew into Elements 4 anf elements 5, then They just started to be called GOL 8, then 9..

All were different builds that people would just pack into.. It was like a huge industry from when it first started..

I kind of grew up with it in my SL.. I was two weeks old, and me and two of my roomies decided to go get jobs just to see what it was like to work in here..

We walked around the club and thought ,wow this is really a neat place.. It was this really amazing Greek theme with these huge pillars and the club downstairs.. Upstairs was the dance floor and DJ booth.. It looked really amazing..

Anyways, we ended up being the first three dancers, Then over a couple weeks more trickled in.. Many would leave, but the core group that actually stuck it out for years, they stuck around and we kind of became mentors and had this bond with each other.. Not a clique, but more friends for life kind of thing where if we were to bump into each other today, we'd more than likely stop and talk about the good ole days.. hehehe

Anyways, after a couple of weeks of opening, the first club took off right to the top of the search.. The club stayed in like the top 10 for just about it's whole existence..

I remember GOL3 was huge.. The club was like the size of a whole sim..  There wasn't a dancer on stage that wasn't making 20k a set..

I remember making enough to pay for my sim, plus my shopping and anything I wanted to buy in SL.. Any time I got on stage I was making around 60k..

It wasn't uncommon to get 10k and 15k at one time from someone.. Then gambling got removed from SL and the depression hit and that would drop to around 10k a set..Which really, was still pretty good money.. hehehe

That club became a whole industry of things.. They had a modeling company, 20 sims for homes and  sailing and one of the biggest wildest malls I'd ever seen to date.

There was a lot of drama, Especially when I became head manager..Omg that was too much.. log in and not be able to move from all the IM's.. I would actually log in and be in the same spot hours later when I logged off..

Still, the club only ever made money with two head managers out of it's whole time in existence.. When I first started, it was with the one that mentored me, and when I was HM of sensual elements.

I couldn't handle that kind of SL though.. it was enough to make me quit.. The HM part of it was so bad that it's hard for me to get into going to any kind of clubs still.. hehehe

It was a great job.. But those kinds of days are long gone and making that kind of money as a dancer these days is probably very rare..

Some girls there made a lot more than I was.. I remember one girl was actually payign her RL bills working there..

That was some good SL back then..

This is a very short version of that place, but there isn't enough forum space and I've only got 4 days off of work  this week, so Imma cut it short.. hehehe

Everyone have a great holiday:)

I have never worked a job in SL either, as in worked for someone else. Many years ago I had a skin store and made a lot of lindens, that was probably my best SL "job". I have also briefly been a landlord, residential and owned a shopping sim, which I would not recommend to anyone, and currently sell adult furniture.

I have never ever worked in SL, via any of my accounts, in all my years here (since early 2007).

That said, I have been working on setting up a store to sell all of these kitty cats that I have managed to create.

It's funny/strange what turns into work. I had Sion chickens for a while and set up a couple of places as pop-up shops to sell Sion chicken eggs. Obviously I didn't make anything on them, just probably dragged a few more people into the 'cult'(!) It started as a hobby but we got overrun with green ones, and they cost a bomb to keep fed (I laugh out loud every time I think about the evil genius who thought up this type of animal).  Now that is making money out of fresh air (as Nick said he did a bit later in this thread).

I think ideally work should be challenging and fun, and if something that starts out as fun and recreation turns into something lucrative but is still enjoyable, then although I would consider that to be work, it's certainly a lot more satisfying than some paid employment out there in real life.

My best SL job was a few years ago when i used to trade Lindens.. Realistically speaking i was making real money out of thin air.

I used to be a (quite frowned upon) land flipper. I would develop the land, reshape it, cut it into different sized parcels, even added transferable homes and decorations to some - this was pre Linden homes days, so I hope they made people happy playing house on the mainland.  I had this daft ambition to clean and tidy up the mainland, where large parts of it still didn't have roadways and in places it was just fields of ad farmers.

Similarly to the way you made money, I was making real money out of thin air. One parcel I bought for 5000L$ and someone willingly paid 20000L$ for it. I had only priced it so high because I wasn't actually sure I wanted to sell it, but I had such a conscience that I repaid some of the money back to them.

Yeah i also did that for a while but it was too much of a fuss and never really wanted to spend too much time online or have to deal with land tier, auctions and such things so moved on to working with private regions. But still my best was when dealing L$.. Really made good profit without having to do anything other than simple math calculations.

I made textured clothes for a few years way before mesh.
Basic but beautiful, triple transparency, wildflower themed swimwear.
I made enough to have a good few shops and pay my way entirely with lindens.
It was very good fun and very satisfying at the time.
The lack of "proper" mesh within SL is what led me to learn creating 3d mesh in RL. 🥰
I shall return to creating in SL one day. Reasonably soon I hope.

Patience is what a heck of a lot of creativity is about in Second Life and while I felt I never had much of it, I always admire people like yourself who do have it. I don't even have the patience to tart up my own avatar all that much.

Yet I used to have infinite patience for ghost hunting - to the point of obsession - and could build straight plain walls from Missing Beckett to Queck and beyond if I had to.

I hope you do return to creating. Taking that first step is always the hardest.

My best, and only real job in SL back in the day, was being a good ol' "Exotic Dancer" and part-time "Escort" on my Bjor type avatar while working at a large club by the water (who's name I sadly can't remember :(). I made good money (enough to support my SL life), met and socialized with some truly beautiful interesting people, shared a lot of laughs with people from all around the world, and basically had a blast playing SL and making good money doing something I was surprisingly great at. It is very doubtful that I will ever work in SL again, especially in a adult business, but it was a incredible and super fun experience I will never forget (mostly lol).
Ohhh and the great stories I could tell (why, I remember this one time this guy walked into the club with nothing on except for a sheep that hung... yeah, ok, maybe that is a story I shouldn't share here lol)...

Peace...

I remember we had a rule that nobody was to have their wee wee's exposed and the only nudity allowed was the dancers..

One night we got invaded by a group of guys that were wearing tuxedo's and assorted colors of  Dillyillydoe's.. It reminded me of this part in this one old movie I seen one time..

Let me see if I can find the video..

I just remember crying laughing so hard when those guys started dancing on the dance floor.. hehehe

Found the clip.. The movie is called Skin Deep

I've only had one job in SL, way back in 2008/2009, where I was a dancer/stripper in a gay club. There were seven of us named after the Seven Deadly Sins I was Gluttony, for some odd reason. maybe because I always ended up chatting about food at events. It was great fun and only ended when the club closed down (as they tend to do).

I wouldn't do it again, but only because I no longer wish to commit to a regular schedule of events.

It seems like most people here worked in the adult industry in some capacity. The nearest I got to that was while out exploring, I found myself in a deserted club where the music was playing and there were vacant poles on top of a bar. I placed my avatar pole dancing and left my keyboard to serve dinner. Not returning to my computer for three more hours, I was amazed to find I was L$1500 richer! There were IMs from a couple of fellas, one had seriously offloaded - I mean conversation-wise - and then he thanked me for listening. He'd given me L$1000. Easiest money I ever made.

lol, awesome Marigold! And to think, I was always quite active in my choice of careers. Then again, when playing anything, I tend to try and actually be in the game; if I have to do anything in RL that takes any time at all, I just log off and do it. Though I am happy you didn't Marigold. Otherwise you wouldn't have made that much money. :) So maybe, just maybe, you should get into the afk adult dancing business again, hmmm? ;) I think you have a great calling in you (or is that me hearing the wolves at the door, wanting to eat me instead? Nahhh, it couldn't be. I am way to "gamey" for that... :D)

Peace...

Interior decorating. I was hired to do 4 rooms based on a close friend's recommendation and word of my ridiculous food/decor inventory. I wasn't even aware I'd be paid until I finished the project. It started out as a favor (friend of a friend kind of thing), but I put in many more hours than intended because it was way too fun, so I was offered a nice gift as a thank you.

Essentially, it boiled down to being paid to shop and design cute kitchens with someone's else's prims, and I'm moooore than okay with this!

I haven't worked much in SL. Most of the time I was making things for myself and then trying to sell those things. I guess being a creator has been my best SL job. Second to that would be when I got this job to visit regions, take pictures and write a description of it on a website. I received a few hundred lindens for each location I visited. Like most jobs that pay really well, the owner probably ran out of money and stopped offering jobs.

My main source of income this year was from being trolled.

It started with someone who convinced herself I was the alt of her RL lesbian lover. So, as you do, I went along with it. Until I realized they were serious and I was receiving mountains of NC and IM spam from their past conversations. I tried to tell them they had the wrong person, but it dragged on for months. For the first time ever I resorted to muting someone.

But her alts kept popping up and I began muting them with less engagement. So they stared sending me L$1 at a time, with a message. It's received as a notice popup even from muted avatars and is fairly annoying. This continued for months longer, and still happens on occasion when I login.

My first job, over 13 yrs ago, was interior/exterior decorator.. I made custom textures (made to order) for personal residences, clubs and shops. Sometimes, I was given a budget to shop for furniture etc. I did that for a few years and loved it. At the same time, I was a wedding planner, photographer, videographer and made invitations. I scouted venues and decorated etc. I specialized in 'hand-fasting ceremonies'. That lasted for a couple of yrs too. It was a hectic time on SL but was so much fun. Nowdays, I still do custom texture work and tattoos. .. nothing quite as chaotic as all those years ago. Pheewwwww!!!🥴

Oooo, decorating for weddings would stress me out so much! I run away even when I get asked my opinion on romantic setups for dates and anniversaries/etc. I do not want any responsibility for any of that, LOL. Given how often I've fallen through my own floors or accidentally set an animated counter too close to a sim boundary and had coffee fly off into space, I think it's best that I stick to jobs that won't lead to tears if something were to go horribly wrong. 🤣 The shopping part would be really fun, though!
