Email Spam !

New trend ... using a bot to scape a list of IM targets from a group membership, and then deliberately messaging while they are offline.

Reporting the offender is a waste of time presumably because LL believe you can prevent this by turning off IM->email for everyone or don't understand the limitations of blocking an avatar.

 

This is now happening at least once per day.

SL is now is an email spam platform.

I've been experiencing the same, although at a much lesser frequency than reported by Coffee. In the cases where the spam comes directly from the store/organization associated with the group, it is immediately followed by a "leave group" action on my part.

Thanks for the heads up on this. So far I haven't noticed anything, but I tend to block delete my e mail anyway.

I encountered that from some stupid DJ that scraped some music group list and send unwanted PMs. When I PMed him, he told me something not suitable for posting on this board. Actually happened twice --- also the PMed spam from some creator who made threats to those who spoke against gachas awhile back.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't it so that your name doesn't show up in the members list if you hide the group from your profile? Could that (if so) not be a way to try and fight this?

Only if the group owner selects this option. However I believe a clever bot could bypass this. Just a thought…
