So I have been gone from SL a long time, at least 5 years or more.

Unless my memory is failing me (which is very possible) I think mesh bodies are new since I left.

On top of remembering or relearning a lot of things I think I need to learn about mesh bodies.

Any suggestions on where or how I can learn about mesh bodies?

What else has dramatically changed? Do I need new clothes, a new skin, new hair, new shoes?

If there was a "Welcome Back Center" for people that have been gone a log time that would be awesome.

Signed Tex, a 15 year SL veteran newbie.

Hello Tex

Welcome back to SL!

Here is a good tutorial on mesh bodies and heads: https://virtualbloke.com/archives/3711

And here is a good tutorial on Bakes on Mesh (BOM), which basically allows us to wear clothes like in the old days, over mesh bodies: https://virtualbloke.com/archives/3358

Hope this helps!

Lucky for you black friday sales will likely make updating a lot cheaper this week. If you want to look current you will need new everything, though depending on your taste old hair and skins can still be worn with certain heads. Old mesh clothes and shoes won't fit any of the mesh bodies well. Not even counting freebies, there are weekly sales that offer skins, hair and clothing for male and female cheap. So if you're looking for a deal you can get fully dressed for a few $USD. The biggest purchases are the head and the body. Sales come rarely but they do happen. Head gifts and sales are more common. I'd suggest looking around on flickr or https://www.seraphimsl.com to see what avatars can look like these days. And if you see a look you like people will be happy to tell you how to achieve it.

Good luck. :)

Belleza Jake has been on sale for 50% off, which in my opinion is a good deal. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Belleza/127/78/26

FYI Inithium released a new mesh body this week, Kario. It seems like a good body, but as for any new body, clothing support is extremely limited at the moment and it will take a while for clothing to become widely available, assuming that creators will support the new body. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Inithium/100/94/3062

Welcome back @Tex Nasworthy! :) You ask some very good questions and am happy to see you returning during black Friday here as there are many deals going on atm. As a old time player who only recently came back myself roughly 2 months ago, you will find all the help you need in getting back into the swing of things and getting started on your new and improved life. Echelon is a FANTASTIC person to listen to and take advice from, as are many of the good folks here that helped me in recreating the avatar I once had as my main oh so long ago. Without their help, I would not have come as far as I have, in as short of a time as I did, and I am positive you will do great as well. Things have changed a bit in SL over the long years, and "some" advances made as well, so your going to have a fun ride in your new SL life. Just don't quit, ask plenty of questions (respectfully of course) if you need help, and keep at it and you'll be there before you know it. So from one old time new player again, welcome back! :D

Peace...
