What is winter like in Bellisseria? It all depends on what you make of it and the holidays.  I'm typically very modest with my own decorations, a wreath over the fireplace, a tree in the house, maybe some lights over the eaves if I have the prims.  I do love seeing what others do though.  Last year I grabbed a log cabin, winterized it out for a few days to film a little video. It was all gone in 5 days time but it was fun creating some moments for others to enjoy.  I myself, love winter regions built for winter, but I'm not overly fond of too much winter in regions that are more summery.  I'd not complain though against my neighbors enjoying the holiday to their own liking. Derender is useful if the scene next door is bothering to one's view. I do know the kid in this video had a great time last year!

Most of my decorating is indoor, cosy fires, mugs of hot beverages, a Christmas tree, Christmas candles and some Christmas cooking stuff in the kitchen etc but I do like exploring Chrismas/ winter wonderland themed regions. Love the ice/snow sculpture in the video.

Speaking of restricting sounds to parcels, I couldn't believe the number of people in Belli who don't do that. It was so freaking annoying being forced to listen to multiple streams at once, including audio from someone's porn videos playing in their homes (that one video was playing in at least 5 houses and triggered a phishing alarm from my anti-virus software).  There was practically a cacophony of noise on some regions.  Eventually I had to just turn off almost everything except the ambient sounds (water, birds).

Parcels should automatically be set to restrict sounds.  Nobody needs to listen to your "You wanna (bleep) me, huh? You wanna (bleep) that (bleep) good, dontcha, Stud" when they're strolling through the neighborhood.

I had to move houses once because some numbnut had a piano playing 24/7/365, so I couldn't even go out and enjoy the park next to my Belli home. I tried for months to source that sound and finally gave up.

Coughs.. just a reminder not everyone is a christian and interested in seeing trees with bulbs and papa smurf dressed folks, Belliseria isn't a "Christians only" land so keep that stuff a lil bit under control. Tyvm.

Christmas trees are not Christian, They actually have their roots in Heathen rituals, but over time the heathen meanings were dropped and the trees kinda stuck around... They are pretty and festive to look at. People of multiple different religions see the trees as signifying things like family gatherings, love, giving, etc more than as an overt Christian symbol.

Christian decorations are things like Manger scenes, the three wise men, etc. Most Christians are not offended at these practices, but to be honest, things like Santa Claus and commercialism are a distraction from the Christian Christmas Message ... the birth of Christ.

In fact, several young children were interviewed on a talk show a few years ago. One of the questions they were asked is.. what is Christmas about. Answers include things like "new toys," "bicycles," and one child thought that Christmas was Santa Claus' birthday.

I am not sure how Poppa Smurf got associated with Christmas.. that is a new one for me... but I dont have any young kids in the house, and back in my time, he wasnt a player in Christmas Decorations.

At any rate, in the North American culture, Christmas has become more of a family holiday than a religious one. Of course, there are the devout ones who still celebrate the birth of their Messiah. But you certainly dont have to be Christian to have a family dinner, exchange gifts, decorate a tree, etc.

Patch mentioned in a post in the hunt thread to watch out for more events like this in the future. Whether it'll be Christmas or not remains to be seen.

As far as drama goes, remember that the forum tends to emphasise things. An argument that would be over in a few minutes and forgotten inworld can blow up into a big thing that lasts forever on the forum. For the most part, people were happy and enjoying the event. The reaction to the prizes going out was positive. There are always going to be some problems, but it doesn't mean the event failed overall.

It'll be fun to decorate for winter. I have mushrooms for every season. Though I do need to figure out how I'm going to dress up Trevor.

It is the same here in Europe. It used to be a really religious time, and still is in countries like mine, but now it is more about the family. Even January 6th is now just about gifting and parades.

Still, I decore both my RL and SL homes with a Nativity, it is more of a cultural thing, I think last December I put one in my garden.

But to me, November is a bit early to start decorating.

I am really having fun seeing all the different neighborhoods and houses for the Halloween hunt! I am really more of a Christmas person so am going full out (as much as I can) for Christmas/Holiday decorations on my house. Is there going to be something like a candy cane hunt or something for the next holiday? If not, going to put a note out on my house for my neighbors to make a 'Candy Cane Lane'  hopefully.

I think maybe stockings you hang out by your door or on your fireplace if you don't have ban lines. Then people collect them and get gifts like a bear etc. They will have ironed out some of the kinks by then. I bet they had to work so much OT on this pumpkin thing they may not be up for it but there's time. For extra credit, have a template stocking into which you can put a gift that other residents get. I suppose they can't do that without first submitting all the content to the BBB. But best to keep the BBB happy and productive with things like this so that they don't assume more duties.

Did you know that media on a prim, or any form of TV with YouTube etc does NOT obey the "restrict sounds to parcel" rule in SL. WHY it doesn't is beyond me. But THAT it doesn't is obvious to anyone in Bellisseria (or some Mainland sims).

WHY the Lindens don't work on THAT problem instead of "Infinite Suns" and the other things they find necessary is beyond me. They really should because it is a huge nuisance meaning many people just turn off sound completely and miss a lot of SL's good things.

There is no way to get the sound restricted to parcel for media on a prim (MOAP), unlike a stream or some sound makers of the type you mention that have a script and a sound file -- as distinct from being MOAP where it is streamed into that prim. That means YOU have to go, right click the TV/media on a prim and block it. Then you can't hear it.

BUT if you are like me, on a Mainland sim where someone has Frank Sinatra's "I Did It My Way" on loop all day on a YouTube TV, you have to first find that TV. They may have hidden it, like inside a ship's hold. The possibilities are endless here for Slenderman.

Yes, you can put World/Beacons/Sound and try to track it but on a sim where there is Insect Munch and all of that it is very hard to find Frank Sinatra in the sea of prims. Still, when you are motivated, you spend that hour and you mute that TV -- at least until the owner makes a new prim with a new UUID and starts it over again.

You know that not everyone celebrates Halloween, right? Including many Christians who find the celebration of stuff they consider Satanic to be deeply offensive? I'm not a Christian either, and I'm also not interested in seeing ghosts and pumpkins all over the place, so... I didn't bother looking at them and concentrated on making a nice autumnal garden for myself. I do like 'trees with bulbs'  (I didn't know only Christians were allowed to like fairy lights; oh well, too late now) so those are going up regardless of whether you're interested in seeing them or not.

(I find that the newer Chalet areas are pretty light on seasonal decor, by the way, so if your religious beliefs compel you to live in a neighbourhood without holidays there are always options.)

We 've already been through that part, my dear..

Abuse Report is the way to go for all those who won't respect parcel boundaries/ dates / won't keep their silly sounds "in their parcels".

Governance will be happy to listen to their Xmas tales. Moving on..

You do know that if YOU set YOUR parcel to restrict gesture and parcel sounds that it blocks all sounds from other parcels, regardless of their settings, don't you?  In other words, you have full control over what you hear and don't hear when you are on your own parcel.  Obviously, if you are out and about, then all bets are off.  Many people, including myself, enjoy the lovely wildlife sounds created by the moles.  In order to hear these on our parcels, we choose to not restrict sounds.

Media is a completely different issue, as it is tied to a region, not a parcel.  If you don't want to hear someone's media stream, you can disable media as needed, or at least disable the setting that connects to all media streams automatically.

Objects that extend beyond parcels are covered by the covenant, so I don't know why that's specifically being called out on a thread about holiday events, but as already noted, ARs and derendering can address those.

In short, while you can't control what others do, you have most of the control necessary to tweak your Second Life experience to your liking.

An attitude not shared by this Jewish atheist who adores Christmas trees, baubles and glitter. Living in a place where blech winter weather is the norm, I extend the season as long as possible, in both worlds.

Governance might be interested in reading peoples biographies, i am not. Rules are rules, they have been set by Linden Lab and should be followed.
When they aren't then ABUSE REPORT is the way to go.

We are?  I see posts from people having to move homes because of what they heard from other parcels.  I don't see where a single person has complained about what they hear in the public areas.  My apologies for not being a mind reader, or for keeping up when the goalposts are moved.

No problem at all as long as you keep that stuff "IN your parcel" and >>>>>Bellisseria public<<<<<< isn't "flooded" with them. Please another friendly reminder don't forget to check "Restrict gesture and object sounds to THIS parcel". Tyvm.

One of the reasons that people don't restrict sounds is because that then prevents them from being able to hear the nature sounds that the Moles have placed around Bellisseria - and those sounds actually help quite a bit with the immersion.  Toggling it on and off every time you come home and leave home is not something most people are going to think of, let alone remember to actually do.

And, as someone else mention, Media on a Prim doesn't abide by that setting.  In those cases, you have to block the offending object.
