If you want guaranteed water you need to try for a houseboat or a stilt on water or on pier but these home choices are popular and there's limited abandons that come up. You could try stilt on land but you may wind up with an inland stilt. You do need to abandon your current home in order to try for another.

When you try for a new house and get one you don't want, you abandon it again. But it is a risk that you will get the same back when you try again.

If you use Firestorm, you can open teleport history and see that it has changed name to something else than "Linden Home". If it has an unique name, it is taken and you don't get it back.

It is many houses that are picked up and abandoned by people who search for the best possible location. So it is all a lucky game. Is it the recirculated inland house that's making its 20th round, or a new location by water? You can not tell before you accepted it.

It can be best to spread your 5 tries out, and keep checking the teleport history so you can see if there are some of your discarded tries that are "Linden Home".

the best bet for getting a house near water is either houseboats (on water but not traditional house), stilt (comes in 3 flavors: on land, on water or on pier) or fantasy. If you get a pier or on water, you are guaranteed to be by the water if you get an On Land, you have a 50-50 change of bordering the water, but even if you are not against the water, there will be water easily in sight. More than half of the fantasy homes boarder a stream, pond or lake.

There are nice coastal or river water spots for vics and trads, but those are not quite as common. I cant speak for log cabins or campers.. there are water spots along lakes and rivers, but I dont know how common they are.

Campers are frequently found by streams, small rivers, and lakes.  There are also occasional "sand campers" that are on "ocean" coasts.

Log cabins are generally inland.  HOWEVER.  There are a large number of unnamed (SSPE) log cabin regions that appear to be complete, and border either the ocean or LogLand's largest inland lake.  Some have the railroad running through them.  At some point they will be named and released, and there will be a lot of log cabins coming through the land page that are near to big water.
