Sorciaa
As anyone who uses it, Comcast has placed a 1.2 TB data cap on their service.. now, with my usage i am just under that cap every month and i am not a hard core user ( thankfully i dont have anyone else here at home using my data 😂 )  Firestorm is just under my browser for data use. is there any little tricks that i can do to cut that use down? I really dont want to have to pay the Great Satan an extra $25/month just to be able to function these days. Already have voice, music and media off at most times unless they are necessary . bigmoe Whitfield
stay in one place with a low draw distance is about all that's going to really save data.

Jackson Redstar
there is an option in preferences to limit textures to 512px, I would think that might limit some data usage (graphics/rendering) and there is the Enable Lossy compression though I dont know if that has any affect on data usage maybe someone else knows
Ardy Lay
2 hours ago, Jackson Redstar said: Enable Lossy compression This is likely found in a Graphics Settings area. I think you will find it requires a viewer restart. After the restart you will likely see less detail in some things inworld because that S3 lossy compression applies to rendering, which only occurs after the textures have been downloaded, decompressed from JPEG2000, stored in RAM in at least THREE PLACES, buried in soft peat for six months then recycled as fire starters...... wait a minute. Where was I going? Oh yes, that lossy compression is between CPU memory and GPU memory. It's only useful to reduce GPU memory consumption. It will not help your network usage unless you have managed to remote your GPU from your CPU via the network. (It could happen.) Lyssa Greymoon
If there’s no one else in your home using the data, I’d check the router logs to see if someone is mooching off your WiFi. 1.2TB a month is a lot for SL and web browsing.
Sorciaa
SL, web browsing, Netflix, yootoob.,.ect ect ect.   I am surprised as well, but was really shocked at the amount Firestorm was using. 119 gbs in 11 days. I am hoping upping the cache limit will help. I am sure I was capping out then redownloading textures every time I went somewhere. I did check my router and network connections and there is no one else leaching. WereBeast Alpha
My question is how many other devices in your home are connected to your wifi while using SL on a computer? Keep in mind smartphones like iPhone, android etc auto connect to the internet. I am on a limited plan as well with my wifi service and I am making sure all devices I am not using are not connected to wifi while I am on my laptop like my xbox, smart tv, phone etc. I barely go over 600GB a month and I have a decent size of internet plan most months I do go over the more devices connected the more your consumption for internet data will go on.
Solar Legion
Even with four people on our network, our data cap (somewhere around 1-2 TB a month) is in no danger of being hit. So yeah .....

That solves your problem the more devices connected at one time to the same internet router / modem will make the data consumption higher. What I do is use one device at a time connected to the wifi I have since I am on a 2000 GB data plan and do a lot of streaming like Netflix and do gaming as well on my xbox one. I found an article that can help you determine on how to solve the issue and manage internet data limits. internet data cap article - Here it is. Viper
MarissaOrloff
You can always purchase an unlimited data plan from Comcast.
