It’s chilling to see the financial industry enforcing puritanical behavior. This was what crypto was made for.

As to SL banning sex, I don’t think enough people will suddenly rush into SL to replace everyone leaving. I don’t think they’LL do it.

I dunno if that's really the case. It's easy for things like this to lose degrees of nuance as they're passed from reporter to reporter to reader to reader.

The purported reasoning by the CC companies is a stronger crackdown on CP and rape/revenge porn, which luckily for us isn't super relevant to SL. Whether you want to view that reasoning as a front for a puritanical agenda is up to your own cynicism.

One should also note that sex-work is illegal most places, and it's much easier for ex. Only Fans to say "No Porn." than it would be for them to add in and moderate a slew of if's/and's/but's that would put them more in the clear of any allegations.

Crypto is not a following I will ever take,   but yeah,  in rush of things like happened in 07 when I came in,  I'm not seeing happen again, unless LL can get IP licenses for many many creations like we saw in ready player one type dealio.

If they did start restricting adult content and activities, I would look at how they have done it at IMVU where a stiffy is a no-no but everything else is pretty open. So *****es allowed but just not ones that get hard.

Oh geez don't make SL like IMVU it would be a total waste of time to make it like a PG-13 movie if all else make sure anyone who purchases adult content with an account is 18+ people really don't have to verify age on IMVU when purchasing Access Pass. I don't see a problem with adult content as long as it's with other adults in general. IMVU sucks in general most people moved from IMVU to SL for the realistic Adult content that IMVU doesn't provide.

Only Fans is removing the adult content because the adult industry like the HUB is under a lot of pressure for people misusing it for gross content and the investors that Only Fans has don't want to support that kind of content being shown.

OnlyFans banning adult content?

The Umbrella Academy - Humor in 2021 | Leonardo dicaprio, Leonardo dicaprio meme, Laugh meme

Yeahhhh, just like TumblR thrived and bloomed after banning porn ...ahem, never mind.

Anyway, I really grow to hate the "nanny mode" more and more which (American? British?) companies are growing. GTH with it, I can look after myself and can decide for myself. If other adults can't, well, sucks for them.

Facebooks metaverse has avatars entirely missing everything below the waist line. ROBLOX and others have strong moderation policies.

Only Fans is banning adult content October 1st 2021 to satisfy demands from banking and credit processing partners.

Obviously, the suggestion that SL wouldn't be silly enough to try is no longer valid, Only Fans are a much bigger business than SL and they just told Tumblr to hold their beer and went for it.

Should we be worried ?

SL is only still around because it's capability for the users to live their romantic and sexual dreams in SL.
Other platforms have better grafics, better building tools, better everything.
What SL keeps going strong is people meeting people with romance and possible sex included.

You think people are going to pay tons of money for a hot avatar to just play e-house, go e-clubbing or art exhibit/museum hopping?

Err.... *looks at self* .....yes?

If SL removed adult content you would see the equivalent of a tsunami roll through and SL would be toast within a month.  They would be better off just closing and retaining the memories.

You would see a lot of people leave but at the same time SL's sexual content is what kind of limits its growth today. 18 years since the beginning of SL and a lot of people don't even know it exists. And most of those that do just hear that it's a pervie game. SL is limited to where and how it can showcase itself because of its adult content. I find it more of a hinderance than a benefit tbh.

Keyword, "just", heh. Not saying anything is wrong with those activities.

They don't require spending a ton of money on a complete avatar, first.

Something the sex industry, AFK aside, sort of checks at the front door in all facets.

Also, not saying people currently "only" pay tons of money on a nice avatar just to have sex with it, either.

I here more "There's nothing to do there." from ex-users than "All the freaky sex and creeps weirded me out too much.".

Guess it depends on where people end up going and what they're looking for or where they came from.

Maybe people these days have become too impatient and want everything handed to them.

IDK. 🤷‍♀️

If LL really would end the adult stuff, it would take another thousand years to get the pervie sticker removed from the platform.

And does SL really have to grow?  What gain is there if the platform is flooded with teens and pre teens?

Sadly the internet is not the wild west anymore and becoming more regulated by the day. There are many in world though that never did the pixel pokey as there is many other great things to do --- such as building, live music, shopping, and too many others to list.

For myself, I wouldn't care if the whole sex side of SL vanished, as long as SL remains.  Having said that, I don't care what adults decide to do to or with each other, and I'd only ask that they keep it out of General-rated regions.  If SL collapsed I'd move to OpenSim or whatever it's called now.  Actually, I'd be keen to take a look there again but my knowledge of it is hopelessly out-of-date.  I'd welcome PMs to point me in the right direction.

I agree I was just pointing out that SL could move on without it and really the only thing that would need to happen for adult content to end or be greatly diminished to the confines of our virtual homes would be for SL to change their target demographic. And it wouldn't necessarily have to be teens or preteens. I find myself coming across people closer to my age or older. I'm not privy to this information or anything but I'd guess a majority of players are at least over 30. I myself started playing when I was 27-28ish.

Streaming services and such target the 25-34 age bracket (however most of the viewers are 16-24) which is what I'd guess SL targets but the services do it and get on just fine without targeting people interested in adult content.

We do exist and, contrary to what many pixel bumpers think, there are a LOT of us and we're neither intolerant bigots nor soccer moms nor religious fundamentalists.

Same, the complaint I hear most often is with SL's performance limited pacing and 'make your own fun' nature.

There is nothing to do. There is no one around. BORING. It's so slow.

No, LL knows what they have on their hands and pulling adult content would be like pulling the plug. That’s pretty much what Onlyfans did, they did some calculations and probably figured there was more money in sanitising it. They’re wrong. Now someone is going to come along and do the same thing.

They’ve done the best thing they could do already: Make separate regions for it without leaning into the sexual nature. That’s just about the only action they could take. I’m sure the topic has come up in meetings a long time ago, calculations have been made and it was decided not to.

The question is: if they got rid of adult content, what would take its place?

If SL was a 12 lane highway, Opensim would be country road though a bog. It's bad on a regular day, on the day SL collapses .. yeah .. not so much.

OF's change was forced upon them by card processors (Mastercard) and has roots in US evangelical war on smut.

OF are probably hoping their users can come up with creative ways to stay inside the new rules.

Probably slightly off topic, but it's a bit of a sad indication of western society as a whole when things like the naked body and sex are still viewed as something we need to be protected from, but yet there seems to be no issue at all in exposing us to endless graphic violence and death O.o

According to the BBC,

Quote

In May, BBC News revealed the site was failing to prevent under-18s from selling and appearing in explicit videos, despite it being illegal for children to do so. At the time, OnlyFans said attempts to use the site fraudulently were "rare".

Now, the leaked documents show accounts are not automatically shut down if they break the site's terms of service.

Moderators have also told BBC news they have found prostitution services advertised, ***** and material one moderator believed to be incest.

The BBC has seen examples of some of this banned content. In one video, a man is seen eating faeces. In another, a man pays homeless people to have sex with him on camera.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-58255865

(If you want to know what word is OK with the BBC but not with the forum software, you'll have to read the article).
