Lolitas. A sneaky attempt to by-pass age-play ban?

64 posts in this topic

Well, I don't know about you, but I'm seeing them EVERYWHERE. Actually, I take that back. I'm not seeing them everywhere. If I saw them in fairgrounds and fairyland sims I probably wouldn't have noticed them. I'm seeing them in sex sims.

Yep. Dressed like lil gurlies, with ankle socks and baby doll dresses and puff sleeves, they sometimes were flatties and sometimes heels, which creates an odd effect - rather like seeing a little girl trying on her mother's high-heeled shoes. The cutsie hair-dos, like bunches and ponytails, add to the infantile effect, the primary "symptom" of which is the height - usually about waist-height to everyone else. The odd lollypop or teddybear can also be seen....

So....what the heck is going on? I've been known to challenge them the odd time, but you go round and round in circles trying to talk sensibly with them. "Me??? A child avie???? You gotta be kidding??? You seen my boobs?? Does a child have boobs?". And they're right. A child doesn't have boobs. And that's the little trick. Hair ribbons and lollypops, ankle socks and gingham print dress, small, skinny, childlike body.....with a couple of boobs - that classic ace to pull out and play when they hassle you about being a child avie in an inappropriate place.

*sarcasm on* Yeah...'course you're not a child avie....you got boobs.... *sarcasm off*

congratulations, you've managed to discover that people do RP the world over including ridiculous childish elements that aren't covered as age play... you want a prize?

So a Contributor rank refers to contributions of  half-baked, one-liner sarcasm?? Well, thanks for your utterly priceless contribution to this thread and the topic it touches on.

I did not have 'real boobs' til I was 16 in RL (and really small ones actually). To be frank, I just HATE these Lolitas in SL, especially when I suspect they were created by middle aged women or, even worse, by guys slobbering on their keyboards. They make me feel so iuncomfortable I just TP or log off. Lolies' boobs??? /me laughs.

Lolita in the Nabokov book was 12. 12 year olds usually have bust development of some kind. Usually not totally flat chested.

12 is still a child.

Use your intuition is my policy on enforcing rules and bans.

Carole, each resident is fully entitled to develop their own personal virtual world, life and character, second life is a fantasy world and/or we accept it or we just log off and do something else, no? .... Lolitas don't bother me at all nor do all the other RP gamers, it is fun to watch....:smileyvery-happy: *meows*

What, you're not familiar with the Japanese Lolita fashion style and its variations, as worn by countless thousands of legal adults in major cities everywhere??? The young women I know who've adopted that style would crack up at the idea they're attempting to imitate children.

People need to think beyond what they see - for instance, I'm clearly very short, but a quick glimpse at my profile reveals that I'm an Ancient Dark Elf with a literary bent. (I'm also pretty long in the tooth in FL, but that's incidental.)

Besides, there's nothing new about this kind of fashion - the first babydoll nightwear came into being in the 1930s, for goodness' sake.

It can also be referred to as Harajuku style, named after the region where much of the scene gathers.  It's also a slightly better name for people who deviate from directly Victorian themes... Such as myself. (^_^)

Though, needs more red. =^-^=

Oh, speaking of... Look out for the red left eye! (O_@)

I wouldn't trust a judgement based on "lolita style"(which as others have pointed out is a populare style among adults in the real world), height (most SL avatars are 7-8' tall tho there's a growing push towards more practical, reasonably sized 5-6' tall avatars which puts them at about waist height to many avatars), or even a combination thereof.  Chances are if they also complain about how tall all the guys are, they're generally not interested in ageplay.

How do they act? Do they talk in that annoying faux-baby talk?  Do they have ageplay groups listed in their profile?

It's also important to note that the "Ageplay ban" referes to avatars with physical proportions and characteristics of young children engaging in sexual activities, it does not cover clearly adult avatars dressing in school uniforms or carrying cheerleader pom-poms along the entirely legal (and so common it's vanilla) lines of real world age-play. And while, yes, girls as young as 12 can have some development in sexual characteristics, they're generally not sporting DD's and an hourglass figure.

No reason to go looking for a problem where there is none.

I get where you are coming from... But whenever there is a rule there will be people who like to see how far they can push that rule.  Many other posters have put forward some possible alternative scenarios besides thinly veiled ageplay.

In the attempt to stamp out ageplay, we must be careful not to tread on freedom of expression.  Should we have a minimum height for an adult avatar?  Should we have a regulated boob/height ratio written into the TOS?  Should we write in a mandatory dress code?

I understand and share your distaste for these questionable avatars.  I think that as long as they aren't blatantly sexual age-playing, the steps necessary to remove them are a bit worse than the problem.  I think that regulating them should fall to the club/estate owner.

Sorry, but precisely ^^THIS makes me uncomfortablle (RL speaking). Even though they are boosting the French economy when shopping at Vuitton, Hermès or Chanel.:smileytongue:

Loli fashion & Lolitas who are clearly imitating children in speech, hairstyle and accessories are not the same thing.

But even Loli fashion might have not so nice roots. There is a huge 'school girl' (NOT RP but real) fetish thing over there, but can't be gone into in a PG forum.

Adults who have a fetish for adolescents are called hebephiles.

Like a judge said about porn, can be said about Loli / vs Lolita ageplay fetish too I think. "I know it when I see it."

Go with your intuition Carole.

"Harajuku Style" eh?  Looks like a ridiculous amount of completely consensual fun!  Sign me up (If I only had the RL spunk to try that in Texas)

I'll admit I've seen plenty of these "lil gurlies, with ankle socks and baby doll dresses and puff sleeves" roaming about however I can't say that I've personally ever seen them on a promiscuous poseball even in the middle of a "sex place" where I've been helping with animations (I''m only there to help... I swear).  In my experience they've seemed rather well behaved and meticulously groomed which would be consistent with the 'Japanese' theme.

Ultimately I'd have to second Venus's suggestion to simply go somewhere else that's less concerning... there's plenty to disturb and inspire throughout SL and fortunately it's huge enough that I've gone weeks without concern depending on where I choose to TP.  My experience in SL is wide open and easily all 'mine'.

(Would they 'Harajuku' in Austin perhaps?)

Ahh the japanese, you have to love them for the wierdos that they are. They are a hilarious race.

But anything other than a japanese craze/style and light hearted fun or genuine fun roleplay would be a bit iffy for me.

No, it hasn't. At least I don't believe it has. There usedf to be out-and-out child avies - but it was pretty rare to see them in adult places. Now, it's all very in-your-face. And like I said, despite the tiny stature and kiddie clothes, they have some curves around the chest area usually. And I see them all the time is adult places.

I call them Lolitas as I'm stuck for a better word. The original Lolita was very young - twelve - so a true Lolita avie would actually be a child avie. I know there's a Lolita fashion - but in theory those clothes could be worn by any age of woman. What I'm referring to are not adult-looking women avies, however.

Melita, I'm not in a position to ban anyone as I don't have land. In theory I could report. In practice, I'd spend a good part of my time in SL typing out reports as I'm seeing them more and more. Do I want to spend my SL time volunterr policing? Not really. Plus, the whole point of this thread was my admission that they're borderline - HIGHLY ambiguous balancing act between adult and child avatar. If I was talking about pure child avies in sex sims rather than waste time discussing it here, I'd just make a report. It's because it's not quite clear - and whatever it is I see - it's on the increase. But scanning through the replies, I see I'm the only one who seems to note the phenomenon.
