Tons of "Notifications" for really old threads

Did LL change something else on these forums yesterday evening or earlier today?

I'm on vacation, so yesterday evening, I skimmed the threads that were of interest to me and then I clicked on the "Mark site read" because I knew I wouldn't go back and catch up on the stuff that was only mildly of interest. 

I then logged in this afternoon and I had 2 pages of Notifications, yet a good 1/4 - 1/3 are notifications on threads where the last post was mid to late last year (2020). I have not a clue how or why all those threads decided to pop into my Notifications.  I checked 6-8 of them and they are all really old with that large blue banner at the bottom warning of resurrecting a really old thread.

Anyone else having odd notifications?  LL doing strange forum stuff again?  What gives?
