It's just not working

So, I've tried every viewer I could think of that's currently functioning and I get the same result, (Yes, I've been doing clean installs as I change them out.)  Nothing loads, my avatar doesn't load, my friends list doesn't load, I can't teleport anywhere else to even try and load, I can't even clear my avatar out and put on anything else because my inventory isn't loading either.

Second Life worked fine for me a few days ago, and now this is happening.  what could be causing this? I've been experiencing this issue for the last two days.

After the login process finishes (which it sounds like is happening?) in the viewer menu bar go to "Help" -> "About <viewer name>" and copy and paste the contents of the Info tab - there should be a button on the info tab for copying to the clipboard, so it will be easy to paste here.    That will provide information about the state of your connection to SL and will be helpful for others here to help you in troubleshooting.

Reboot your modem.

Screenshots are from Catznip, the official viewer will look very similar, firestorm .. not so much .. I would advise you do this on the official viewer, just to rule out as much as possible.

If you are on WiFi - make sure there is line of sight between your computer and the router with nothing obstructing it (including your self!)

  1. Log in.
  2. Press SHIFT+CTRL+1 to open the stats floater.
  3. Look at the packet loss figure.

  5. If this number is anything other than 0% that's the first thing to address and can cause a lot of things to be broken or weird.
  6. Open the preferences and look for the bandwidth slider (under setup on the official viewer)

  8. Move this as far to the left as possible (as low as value as possible)
  9. Log out and close the viewer.
  10. Open the viewer again, on the login screen, in the third box type KARA as your start location.
  11. Log in
  12. Open the stats floater again.
  13. keep the viewer in the foreground and go spend a few minutes making a cup of tea (green with lemon is preferred)
  14. If you are a cloud, open inventory and one by one (slowly) wear a different shape, eyes, bald base and skin.
  15. Do you still have packet loss ?
  16. If yes .. switch off your computer, switch off your modem (go 100% offline)
  17. Make another cup of tea and a sandwich
  18. turn the modem back on, then your PC and try steps 10 - 14 again
  19. Still problems? Report back !
