It seems like a nice and clean system, yet at the very moment some of the system requirements will prevent upgrade for significant portions of machines out there even if they run Windows 10 right now.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-11-specifications

Quote

System firmware: UEFI, Secure Boot capable
TPM: Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0
Graphics card: Compatible with DirectX 12 or later with WDDM 2.0 driver

No BIOS allowed, must be UEFI; Relatively new graphic card with DirectX 12 / WDDM 2.0 support (so mostly Kepler / Maxwell, I think) and TPM 2.x module - there were few discussions here and there that TPM 1.x would be sufficient, but... this is the official Microsoft page for the "basic requirements", not "recommended" ones.

These are the basic requirements for installing Windows 11 on a PC. If your device does not meet these requirements, you may not be able to install Windows 11 on your device and might want to consider purchasing a new PC.

Things may change until the release of the OS, of course.

We moved the start menu to the center to put you at the center and oh yeah, BTW all your computers are e-waste. I have to buy a new computer for frosted glass and Teams everywhere? Seriously? I upgraded almost all of my PCs to Windows 10 very early on. Unless Microsoft comes out with a home edition that doesn't need the pointless UEFI secure boot and TPM2 requirements, I'll stick with Windows 10. I'm not throwing away perfectly good hardware for features I found so boring I would rather watch progress bars move across a screen than the announcement video.

Hope secure boot is still option. That's really a melon in your butt. It's terrible. Tpm requirement not excite me also. And am worried about the screwed the gui. Not need a center taskbar, and it still need to be moveable to left side of screen.

Not looking forward to win11, besides am on 4th gen intel cpu, need to see it on other system first.

Just tried win11 for ARM w/ Parallels + MacOS BigSur on My Macbook Pro, assigned 8GB mem for that. need hack to bypass TPM 2.0. Microsoft now eager to shutoff the turoial websites by abuse reports to google and more.. it was a hard way to do that.

Dear repliers,

There are tons of the post for the knowledge how to install and magage Windows 11(Reddit and more), though, Microsoft (especially Microsoft Japan) is eager to remove such websites because they stongly prohibit 'the hack way' to install and manage with their 'proprietary license'.But they cannot completely prohibit because China and Russia cannot use Windows 11 if they do not the hack way.
So I filed the documentation in Chinese (NOT Japanese/English and more) and took the instruction video on youtube but it is only invitation member only. if you would try Window 11 on Apple M1 please IM to me with your google account. I will tell the link (the video is non-voice but you will know how to do that once checking the video).

Please note I will the video soon because of Microsoft fxxkn activities for Windows 11.

Thanks for your investigations,
May

I hope they drop the UEFI requirement, that one's a pain in the butt.

How long has UEFI been around?

A long time. But I know my computer doesn't support it. It's still a powerful machine, though it is old.

Linden Lab can't use the power I have. There are world-wide chip shortages. New graphics hardware is insanely expensive.

Windows 11 doesn't really make sense for Second Life, though I can see the advantages of dropping support for BIOS booting

Actually the Nvidia GTX3070 is 499 and the 3070ti is 599 dollars. But I am more annoyed with the scalpers, marking up the price way higher. That and I will have to basically update all my hardware to run windows 11.

Windows S and Windows 365 Cloud PC aren't allowed to run Second Life.

Windows S will only run "apps" from Microsoft's "app store". Windows 365 Cloud PC is Microsoft's answer to Google's Chromebook; it's mostly just a terminal to Microsoft's servers. Windows is becoming a walled garden.

Microsoft's terms for their "app store" may be a  problem.

10.8.1

If your product includes in-product purchase, subscriptions, virtual currency, billing functionality or captures financial information, the following requirements apply: ... All games (excluding games made available through a subscription in PC gaming subscription products ((products whose primary functionality is to enable access to a catalog of games via a subscription service) and in-app purchases in such games) and products offered on Xbox consoles are required to use the Microsoft Store in-product purchase APIs.

So, either you pay through Steam or Microsoft. Microsoft takes 30%.

11.7

Your product must not contain or display content that a reasonable person would consider pornographic or sexually explicit.

Might be a problem.

10.8.4

If your game offers “loot boxes” or other mechanisms that provide randomized virtual items, then you must disclose the odds of receiving each item to customers prior to purchase. These disclosures may appear: in-product, such as in an in-app store, on the Microsoft Store Product Description Page (PDP), and/or on a developer or publisher website, with a link from the Store Product Description Page (PDP) and/or in-app.

That needs to be cleaned up in SL anyway. Here's an overview of loot box litigation.

None of this applies for ordinary download-the-installer installs. But it's gradually becoming clear that Microsoft is migrating consumers to locked-down, approved apps only content. Something for LL to prepare for.

Dude, I think you need to check your facts first. I just looked it up, and you would have to have it in S mode for that to happen.

Windows 10 in S mode is a version of Windows 10 that's streamlined for security and performance, while providing a familiar Windows experience. To increase security, it allows only apps from the Microsoft Store, and requires Microsoft Edge for safe browsing. For more info, see the Windows 10 in S mode page

It's NORMAL for new PC's & laptops especially to be shipped in Windows S mode, the expectation on MS's part is that users wont know about switching out of S mode, or will be put off doing so by a big scary warning message (such scary messages are very effective). Don't think for a moment that this isn't intentional and that the longer term goal is to make S mode the locked default with a full Windows behind an additional paywall or subscription.

Folks,

Microsoft seems to give up to remove the howto blog posts to bypass TPM/Secureboot,  so it may be the time to tell you the mechanism ( "I guess" ) how they work on Windows 11.Sorry Why I am late to disclose is Someone says Microsoft JP actually has reported some tutorial website as abuse to search listings and more.

Checked to many posts and installed 10+ times to many of my machines (incl VMs) and some more interviews to PC Magazine writers,  Secureboot seems to be not used in the insider preview, TPM is used for that but it is only scan the system while installation only as the 'software requirement' so if you bypass TPM in the way you can see in search listings almost old machines work well on Windows 11 except WSA (Windows Service for Android) or some features for Intel 10th or later edition. it may be needed intel latest memory use included on the latest..so Microsoft might recommend to use Windows 11 at least 10th Intel edition or later. Microsoft doesn't seem to solve the issues only on AMD CPUs(suddenly death by bluescreen or etc), though I haven't met on my Thinkpad E495. Frankly speaking, I DO NOT recommend to use AMD CPU on Windows (as Redhat DO NOT recommend RHEL on AMD) because there are weird issues you can see on search listings. if you plan to purchase new one I recommend Intel 10-11th Gen or later, NVIDIA GPU 3x Ampere , 16GB mem at least, NVMe High Performance DISK accelarations.
Why does TPM only work for that? because it cannot be used in China and Russia - TCM should be used in China, Russia might have another way like TPM. I guess it is only for validate PC to install/update Windows 11 with secure. A couple years ago Microsoft had suspected many of Chinese PC hardware manufacturers might use 'fake'/'illegal' Windows OS they found there were tons of fakes there, but because of the business in China they had to permit many of Window 10 'fake' licenses there as 'official' licenses, that was pain story. lately many of Chinease (Shenzhen) PCs are exported all over the world,  they may be nervous to the license use.Microsoft might discuss with Chinese Gov. to implement and deal with TCM how to validate PCs legally, it may need more time to reach the conclution.

btw now I have a stream video how to install Windows 11 on Apple M1 on my youtube channel I will open later today for M1 users who eager to try Windows 11.if you are impatient to try Windows 11 on M1 please give a try. you can see the Parallels forum, though, they plan to develop fake TPM to install Windows for M1.

Well I am wondering Microsoft requires Secureboot for Windows 11, though almost AntiVirus softwares require 'disable' Secureboot....

P.S. my E495 OS lately has changed CentOS stream with RHEL because of sudden death and broken rootfs..wondering why...

Thanks you investigation and more comments.

They also made it bigger

You're kidding?
