By the way this keeps getting dragged back to the forums (and post reactions, omg), I'm starting wonder how many here have zero interest in any kind if social interaction in world and use the forums to plug that hole.

There used to be a saying about the World of Warcraft forums. Those happy with the game are in the game playing the game, those who aren't are on the forums.

Maybe it's time to shutter general discussion on the forums entirely for the sake of in world engagement! Just think of all the trouble we could be causing in world!

But... Im already causing trouble in-world. I want to extend that to general forums too. How dare you try to that away from me.

My interactions inworld are with a larger group of people.  I can also block offensive people there and never see or hear a word they say.  I have people blocked here too but then someone quotes them and dangit, there is that offensive/wacko post staring me in the face.  Now, I have tried NOT to say something, really, I have.  I've written many things and never hit that submit button.  Somethings, however, must be addressed.  Misinformation/conspiracy theories shouldn't be left unchallenged.

I'll take the blame for my first comment about engineered friction looking like confusion and getting the ball rolling on forum reactions.  Unfortunately, your thread started right along with the I'm being targeted thread so I was probably reacting more to that than anything.

Well to promote inworld discussions S/L would have to dissuade the use of IM and voice when in a space where there are others. So maybe like an inactive avatar gets logged out after 5 minutes. I've seen other platforms give their residents private messaging and voice and suddenly noone was talking in local. The features were quickly pulled within months of their introduction because it was realized newcomers were not staying due to the lack of apparent socializing.

What would engineered friction in SL even look like?

Lets do like The Purge but with flying freeners and particle bombs! Once a year, LL could turn off all sim protections and ban lines and let the (probably relatively tame) bloodbath commence. You could probably squeeze a few months of drama out of that.

I don't want to go back to being all by myself with no one to talk to inworld. It's been that way for over a decade and I don't see it changing.

You have mentioned a few times you have no friends and now you say you don't want to engage inworld because you had to one to talk to - for a decade? Why do you engage in a platform that gives you so little pleasure and not find something else to spend your time doing.

I’m in SL a lot of the day, usually just travelling/exploring or moving items around on my various parcels. Although I lurk in a few groups, I only tend to post there if someone asks a question and nobody else has put forward an answer. I won’t approach people in order to chat (although I’m happy to chat with anyone that approaches me to do so), and the idea of attending an ‘event’ just makes me shiver. My inworld company is usually limited to my alts, who have their homes across my parcels. It’s nice to have a friendly face to greet me when I arrive at one of them, and they’re a great help in being able to teleport to sit in my vehicle if I need to get out to reset it or I’m visiting something and will need the vehicle to carry on my journey afterwards.

The SL forum (I don’t use any others, and I shun social media) is my first port of call upon waking, my last stop of the day when retiring, and regularly visited during the day between journeys. One regular contributor to the forums has been my landlord on several occasions, and we’ve exchanged pleasantries on parcel decoration a few times, and another who must surely rank as the nicest person both inworld and in forum is currently my landlord on one of my rentals. I think I’ve seen one other ‘forumite’ as a green dot on the mini map, which made me smile as I passed. The only contact I’ve ever had with any others from here was when I was attacked in IM out of the blue and accused of all sorts of malarkey in what must have surely been a cut and paste exercise with lumps of text hitting my inbox and leaving me floundering because I a: don’t think fast; and b: really had no idea what she was going on about; purely because I belonged to a certain land group and so therefore must be in cahoots with someone else on the forum (with whom I have never had any contact) that was also in the same group, in order to do them injury. They thoroughly disturbed my peace and earned themselves the distinction of being the only person I’ve blocked inworld in recent years, (having been in SL since 2006 I find that the blocking facility had to be used more often back then). I’ve never used the forum block.

tl:dr Not everyone in SL is there for the social aspect, not every post on the forum can come across to everyone as perhaps the writer intended. Maybe a pause in some circumstances before submitting a reply, “Does this really need to be said?”It’s fine to disagree, but can we at least do it and remain polite, rather than insulting them or their mother.

There are no children here...age-wise.

That's not the point at all and you know it.  I was thinking of autistic people that may come to the forums here as well and how that could be confusing.  And, as a matter of fact, one posted in this thread.

Myself, I use both together.

The main reason is because of so many different  sections, like Your Avatar is helpful with  shopping and other sections are good for learning about new places..

I pretty much always have the forums up when I'm in world.. They just always seemed to go together for me..:)

No, the point was that there are no children here in the forum. None.

Being Autistic does not automatically equate one to being a child - which you should have already known.

Now, you might want to put that shovel away.

This is probably partly true.  EEP viewer is too difficult for my specs, although the older FS is finally working better for me.  The more I logged in with the older FS viewer the better it was but I'd like to use SL for NFT's.  I'm gradually moving towards getting involved with decentralized "things".  Aside from making more real life computer art, Livepeer for one.  I think Livepeer could be the next YouTube but it's also like a Skype or just for people to talk peer to peer with one another.  I think SL needs to get with decentralization.  Yes, that's another discussion, but I think a big paradigm shift for the internet is taking place. SL can benefit if it hooks in somehow.

Wow. Could you please try to make that a little bit more explicitly condescending, you know, so us autistic people can't accidentally get confused by your perverse prejudice?

What the bleep, Orwar?  My post was not prejudice at all.  My Dad was a pioneer in the field of autism.  I have already posted on this forum I met several of my Dad's patients.  The last thing you don't want to do around an autistic person is to react inappropriately.  If you find that prejudice you have to remember there are levels of autism and you do not know every posters level here.

Wow. You really do know how to take what someone said and twist it to mean exactly the opposite.

Hmm, it couldn't possibly be because Second Life simply is not purely social in nature ... Oh no ...

I guess they think all I do is stand around on a platform in the sky while logged in. 🤣

Funnily enough .... If I am not feeling the most social, that is almost exactly what I'll do. Usually while listening to music and doing other things in Brave, possibly putting together another Avatar/Form/Outfit to match what some music tracks put into my mind.

Oh well then. My maternal grandfather was a recipient of a Nobel peace prize, I guess that means I'm an expert on conflict resolution?

You compare autistic people to children. If you fail to understand how that is prejudice, I suppose you are incapable of grasping the meaning of that word - which is quite ironic, seeing as even children are taught what prejudice is and how to avoid it.

I can't just sit idly. I have to do something. Even if it is just tweaking the placement of bits in a linked set.
