Cannot even rename them?

Or replace with another one?

Nope and nope.

The closest you can get is reading notecards through UUIDs. So in a way, you could manually edit a notecard and then give the new UUID to a script so that it reads the newly modified version of the notecard, but it sounds like manual editing is something you didn't want.

Replacing is possible. Make a script drop a new notecard in and have a script in the object that deletes the old one.

It is possible with the use of a bot. As in send the text to a bot, and make it update the notecard. This however is in most cases way to over complicated and a database for external storage is in most cases the better option.

Bob this is interesting concept but if you can script the agent bot why can you not script yourself . I am not saying this can be done as I have not seen it persay
