I learned when you BOM the skin, you have to take off alpha layer, and it showed up. I feel I'm in middle of the how to do skin thing. I don't know what to do with appliers. Maybe pictures peferred, I'm visual person. Please show how y'all do it in correct order.

Bakes on Mesh is a way to use system layers on mesh, usually heads and bodies. It eliminates the need for appliers.

Originally all avatar skin was a system layer. Then we got mesh bodies and later heads. But, system layers couldn't be used on mesh. So, some creative person started using Appliers to put skin on mesh bodies and heads. Then we got BoM and it lets us go back to the original way of wearing skin, system layers.

image.png.4890e87f82057e0483a04fda7b0f42b6.png These are system layers in the Firestorm inventory. Shape, skin, hair (used here for a brow shape), and eyes.

Appliers are no longer needed.

HOWEVER... appliers are an option and there are some advantages. So some designers use appliers for somethings and system layers for some other parts. I have a head where I use a system layer skin via BoM but use appliers for my make up. My Slink Redux body is BoM only. Skin, tats, etc are all via system layers. I can't use any of my tats that came as appliers with that body.

This means there is no single way to do things. There is no standard order of doing things. There is no single RIGHT way. You simply have to know which way to go and that is complicated by personal preference.

While this isn't a particularly helpful answer for you, we would need to know what body and head you have to give you the information you want.

Your Maitreya body and Catwa head both have BOM buttons. From the look of your head I would say you have BOM disabled and are using a system layer skin with no skin on the Catwa head. Click the head's BOM button to enable it.

See if that fixes it.

With the classic avatar, pre-mesh days, the shape, skin, eyes, and something else were required to render an avatar. To force users to include the basic components of an avatar the Lindens made the essential components only "replaceable". They can't be taken off. You must replace them. Replacement is how we change them.

When you put on a BOM capable item and enable BOM the system knows to hide the classic or aka system avatar. If we put alphas (system alpha layer - see image) on the classic avatar the BOM system transfers those alphas to the mesh body. This how we hide parts of the mesh avatar to work with clothes.

image.png.d223c7ac10326f5eec3a2cc7e98e4a1e.png For this outfit I needed to hide my elbows...

Life is simpler if you ignore appliers and use BOM for everything. But, you can do some neat stuff when you mix appliers and BOM. But most everything you can do with one you can do with the other.... personal preference.

@Nalates UrriahThank you for replying and I'm sorry, I should specific my body and head out there.

I do have Catya Bento Catwa Head and Maitreya Lara Body. I will show you the picture.

By the way, I tried to take off my actual skin but nope.

I was trying to try some skin on.

https://prnt.sc/13g9s4d

P.S. Sorry for big picture.

I think you have activated BOM on the body but not on the head. Click the purple "BOM" button on the head hud, in the top-right corner above all the skin swatches.

You cannot take off a system skin. It's one of the four key things that your avatar must always wear in order to exist (the other three are a shape, and system eyes, and system hair which is these days just used as an eyebrow-shaper).  You can replace a skin with another skin. But you cannot wear no skin at all.

Catwa has a very large and active group, I believe it is called "Catwa head friends" or something. It should be easy to find group joiners in the store.

They always* have helpers ready to assist inworld. It is also a Catwa CSR that's often posting on this forum, @Skell Dagger.

*Maybe not 100%, but almost always.

He has tutorials with step-by step help about BoM. https://virtualbloke.com/tutorials

Even if he uses male models to illustrate, the rules for using BoM is the same for females. He also show where to find the buttons that activate BoM on female and male bodies and heads. In this particular tutorial, you can scroll down past the "turn om BoM" illustrations to find "troubleshooting" for bodies and heads. This will often help. https://virtualbloke.com/archives/3634

She also has 2 skin appliers showing as worn.

Yes, and a very important thing is: After you enable BoM on the HUD, you may think the head or body stay BoM.

It does not. Every time you click on a skin applier, it reverts the body or head back to only use appliers and turn off BoM.

This may not be known to many, that they turn off BoM this way, and has to click the BoM button on their HUD again.

Hi @Oexy - Catwa CSR here :)

If the skin that you're using only has appliers, then you cannot use BoM.

I've cropped, edited, and colour-coded your image below, as you have asked for simple visuals. Please follow the colours closely:

help4oexy1.thumb.png.8213ab2dbe4261977c1483c638cb757a.png

  • Green: This is your head applier HUD. The name is ### [PUMEC] - Alexandra - DEMO - Catwa heads HUD
  • Yellow: This is your body applier HUD. The name is [DEMO] - APRIL (N) - BODY APP-S MINI HUD
  • Red: This shows the skintone of the body HUD you're wearing. In this image you're wearing the skintone called 'April'. I believe that the additional '(N)' in the name might mean that it's a 'no brows' version, so it won't have eyebrows on it

Using the exact items listed above (and shown in your image) you need to do the following:

  1. Wear the CATWA Alpha Full Avatar that's in your Catya head folder
  2. Add both of the HUDs for the head applier and body applier, as shown in your original image
  3. On the BODY HUD (yellow highlighted in the above image) click the box for the name of the mesh body that you're wearing. The brand names are: Maitreya, Belleza, and Slink. Click the Maitreya one.
  4. On the HEAD HUD (green highlighted in the above image) click the 'APRIL' box, which I've highlighted in red

Your head and body skin should now match.

I notice that you're currently wearing the CATWA ALPHA EYES, and - because your head is set to BoM - your eyes look bright red all over. To fix this, go into your Catya head folder and find the Eye HUD. Add it, and click one of the colours that you like. This will put the eye textures back onto your head's mesh eyes.

I'm currently on my lunchbreak, but if you need any further help just post again with the details and I'll check back when I've finished work for the day.
