There isn't much demand for babysitters or security guards in SL, except as part of a role play game (where you are not likely to be paid). You may find jobs that don't require much skill or experience -- as a dancer or an escort, for example -- and you can certainly collect L$ in club games or in places like Linden Realms, but those generally don't give you much more than pocket change. Some of those jobs also assume that you have made an initial investment in a top quality avatar and wardrobe. To earn more than a few hundred L$ here and there, you generally need to have a marketable RL skill as a creator ( a scripter, mesh modeler, animator .. ) or a performer ( a musician or a DJ) plus a fair amount of experience in SL.  With luck, patience, and a big starting investment, you can also earn L$ as a landlord.

Working or running a business in SL can take as much time and effort as running one in RL.  It can also be great fun.  That's really the bottom line, regardless of your skills and experience.  Very few people get rich by working in SL. If you aren't having fun at what you do, you are wasting in-world time when you could be dancing, exploring, sky-diving, or whatever else does bring you joy.
