Which is not what was being described and is a wholly different kettle of fish that needs to be fixed.

Now am I being a bit too literal? Probably am. As I read it, the complaint was that merchant results were popping up in the Items search results - meaning you were seeing merchants, by themselves.

Meh. Not something I'd notice unless I went looking for it.

Just searching magic is really kind of a broad search target although merchants should not show, perhaps they wouldn't with another key word?  Magic AND wand?  Magic AND hat?  Merchants showing should be an easy fix?

Thats what i mean though.. Why is a merchant items with the last name "Magic" showing up in a search in the items tab? It should not search that part of a listing. Merchants names should be excluded from item searches.

you must have misread what was being described..

You do realize the search algorithym includes sellers names, right? So if the seller is called 'beardeddude07" but sells furniture, anyone searching for beards is going to see his stuff too.

That is exactly what i described as happening.

I still miss a market category related to SL photography. No real life pictures/real life porn allowed. Only pictures made in SL.

Theres no point in that. People use flickr.

Perhaps you should peruse the MP a bit more. There are plenty of artists taking and selling SL pictures on the MP.

Its never been an interest of mine so I never searched for it. However, I did try to find these pictures and only found frames, studios, backdrops, etc. Not actual pictures taken in-world individually for sale.

I have no idea why that would even be a thing. People just take random photos and then post them for sale on the mp??? Why when you can just take your own picture for free? 😂

This thread is about the market place. And the market place is sorted by categories.  I said I'm missing a category where photographers or graphic artists can list and offer for sale only pictures made in SL. Right now one can list those pictures only in the same categories which offer real life photos and real life porn as well. I have no idea why you mention Flickr in this context. Couldn't be more off topic.

Here you have the reason why we need an own category for SL pictures to avoid that they get mixed with a million other pictures.

Oooook. Let me stop you right there. No self respecting actual graphic artist is going to use the marketplace for their work (why I mentioned flickr). The marketplace does not need a category for pictures taken in SL due to dramatically low image quality (also why I mentioned flickr).

I dont know of ANY actual graphic artist that uses the marketplace. They all have facebook and in-world professional studios and all of them use Photoshop or Brush.

Then again, I appreciate good quality.

There are quite a few artists with galleries where they sell not just their RL art but photos taken in SL.  Just because you haven't seen it or understand why anyone would buy or sell it, it still exists.  As an example...this will be a place for artists to display their work.  Sales are allowed.

They show up because the MP search under the items tab does a general search of all parts of the listing, be it keyword, item name, shop name or user name. It is how it has always been and no amount of telling LL it shouldn't be like that has fixed it.

What really needs to happen with search is that they still have the same search bar we see on MP now, however it needs an advanced search where you can search specifically via item name and/or keyword. Similar to how the forum search works where you start typing in search and an auto pop-up appears where you can select more advanced filtering options.

But then again, the whole backend of the system is just not reliable anyway in that the listing itself should not allow store owners to add their store name to the item field as that is shown directly under the item name anyway when searched.

As for keywords, if appropriate categories and system selectable keywords only were allowed it would fix the keyword spam almost over night. For example, how keywords should work is that if I select the Beard category to list my beard item then it should automatically change to a menu where I can only select predefined keywords to list. That is to say things like short, long, curly, stubble etc. Then you could also have a sperate colour keyword section that allows you to select from a range of colours. This would stop keyword spam instantly.

Thats totally fine. In-world is fine. I am saying the marketplace is not a place to sell image art. Wouldn't you want buyers to actually see your work instead of a tiny low quality preview of it? DeviantArt and Flickr are places to properly sell your art pieces and services, not the SL Marketplace. I will never support a category for something like that.

I know so. Anyone who sells pictures on the MP, I won't ever take seriously as a artist.

I'm sure LL values your support or non-support immensely.

I'm sure they care ever so much.

Isn't that akin to buying ANYTHING off the MP. You have low res images to make your decision by. Yet houses sell without ever being seen inworld. As do mesh clothing.

Perhaps they have already seen the artists work on Flickr and enjoy it.  Having a MP listing to sell it makes perfect sense.  You're, of course, entitled to your opinion.  I doubt SL will be asking for your input if they do decide to add more categories, however.

Categories > art > photos

That would be the appropriate category any sl photos would be in and im not seeing very many. If LL created a category just for SL specific images, it wouldnt even be 1 page. Its pointless.

But hey, keep your hopes up 😂

If you reread my post, I was speaking not to a separate listing per se but the fact people DO sell their SL photographs which you seemed to think they didn't.  MP being another avenue for them to use.  Doc was speaking about a separate category.

Not sure why you don't understand that concept.  Why do people sell porn pics on the MP when you can surely download some for free off the web?

I spent two hours searching for Catwa Beard, Catwa HDPRO Beard, Beard, Mesh Beard and all results are random with clothing, hair, earrings and all sorts of stuff.  I think this has gone long enough.  Fix the market place so it's easier to search for items.  If I'm searching for Beard, I expect 1,000,000 pages to pop up on beards.  Not shoes or sex stuff.  It's very sad when you do search for sex stuff, you get children stuff.  This is disgusting.  Your market place is a hot mess.

I have been told by those in the know that those selling mesh bodies and mesh heads do nothing to make sure you can find and buy them on the MP because they want to drive you into their stores -- that way for one, they don't lose the tax to LL, and for two, they can usually get you to buy something more expensive. Understandable. I have found this to be the case. You simply cannot find the actual hands or feet of certain brands, only various add-ons by others piggy-backing on their brand. That's to make you come to the store.

All LL has to do to reduce spam keywords by half is to reduce the size of the keyword field.

Removing creator names from product name search would go farther.

I don’t get what is so hard, but after years of suggesting these things I have to assume something about it must be devastatingly difficult.

LL tries to limit keyword spam by limiting how many characters we are allowed in the keyword field.  In general it's a good solution.

I see two problems with the proposed alternative right off.  If I want to see what pinky purple asteracea suitable for putting both outdoors and indoors are available on Marketplace,

1) People disagree on what's purple and what's pink, and where fuchsia, magenta, and red fit in.  Checkboxes will work badly for that.  This is an example of the inventory problem of people confusing where they think things should go with actually *finding* them again to use them.

2) I had to choose "asteracea" for this example because the flower I'm thinking of could be a chamomile, a daisy, a chicory, a marigold....  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asteraceae#/media/File:Asteracea_poster_3.jpg  That's just not practical for checkboxes.  Not that the current system is better.  After I've optimistically tried more specific terms, I have to go to the "Home and Garden" category and wade through 800 pages of "purple flower" or "pink flower" under "Landscaping > Flowers and Plants" (the category they're best organized in), "Greenhouse", "Decor > Cut Flowers and Potted Plants", and "Other Home and Garden" hoping something will be suitable.
