Cromey
Hi guys, I'm super new and I'm struggling with teleporting. When I try to teleport anywhere (including Home via the button) it says I don't have access to the destination?

When I try to teleport anywhere (including Home via the button) it says I don't have access to the destination? Hi Cromey, and welcome to Second Life. Check your Maturity settings in Me>Preferences>General tab. Change them to G,M,A (if you are 18 or older). In addition, some land owners limit access to their places (especially Adult ones) until you've been in SL 30 days, to cut down on people who make new accounts for troublemaking. Or, some owners only allow members on an access list, or members of a certain group, to visit their land. "Home" has two meanings in SL. If you rent or own land and have a house there, that's a home. But you can also set a Home location. This is useful because you can set your viewer so you always log in at this location, and you can teleport there with a single mouse click or CTRL+H. You can set a Home location on land you own, land that belongs to a group you are in, or public land owned by Linden Lab. To do so, stand on any land where you have this privilege, and go to World>Set Home to Here. If it won't let you, then the land you're on doesn't fall into one of the categories I mentioned, or you need to activate the proper group. If you have not yet deliberately set a Home location, the Teleport Home function will drop you onto a random LL infohub. Many of these are Adult rated, which may be why you are having problems. See my first paragraph above. If you visit Caledon Oxbridge University and join their student group (free!) you can set your Home position to the Rose Garden in the middle of the campus.
0 Fritigern Gothly
Well, about the teleporting home thing, have you set your home location yet? As for teleporting to other locations, I have no idea. Maybe you are not 18 yet and you are trying to teleport to adult locations? Maybe you are trying to go somewhere that is temporarily closed? I don't really have enough info to make a proper suggestion.
0 Cromey
Am I able to buy land and build a home? It has just dawned on me I haven't selected where home is. I presumed there would be a 'pre set' home

I presumed there would be a 'pre set' home buying (or renting) land is one way of obtaining a spot that you can use as your home. However, there are other places around SL where you can set your home. Like I remember when I was homeless for a short while, I had set my home at a hobo beach. I checked and the beach is still here http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Penny Lane/39/28/24 You will probably have to join a group before you can set your home there, but that group would be free (hobos in SL like to live money-free) so you could try that. it will give you a place that you can always teleport to when you need to. I presumed there would be a 'pre set' home New Accounts get their home set to the learning area by default, which you cannot go back to once you leave. Not sure why LL isn't smart enough to assign you a new default home. There are a variety of places in SL that are newcomer friendly and will allow you to set home there -- Do a search for NCI (New Citizens Incorporated). If I remember correctly, they have places where you can set you home to -- you might need to join their group. As for TPing to other locations, as mentioned before, it is likely your avatar age. A lot of places require avatars to be 30/60/90 days old. I wouldn't recommend buying land until you have been here a bit and checked out all the land options. There are places you can rent from, many with pre-supplied houses. Use search to find Rentals. Edited March 8, 2021 by LittleMe Jewell

Or cause two, your account status is broken, which to fix we have file a Support Case Edited March 8, 2021 by Mollymews cause

Thank you for this. I would really like to buy or rent land and build a home. Is this available to me with being so new. I've been through the tutorial and I'm a bit stuck on what to do and how to really get into the game
0 Rolig Loon
Yes, anyone may buy or rent land. I suggest doing some background reading in the Knowledge Base, starting with Unless you are intending to buy an entire region (which I do not recommend until you have been in SL for a while and understand how things work), that should be enough to get you started. I also recommend that you plan on taking Lindal Kidd's free class on owning and managing land, which she offers every Saturday at Caledon Oxbridge University in world. Look for it in Search and visit to check class time on their schedule board.
0 Lindal Kidd
Sadly, Lindal is no longer offering her Land class, or any others. She's taking a sabbatical from Oxbridge.
