Hi all,

Before I write the actual post, I would like to know in what topic best to post it. I know, should report the person to LL - that is being done as we speak but myself and others wish to warn other fellow residents as well to make sure you don't run into them and fall for their lies, manipulations, etc.

Let me know please what topic to put it in.

Regards,

Johnorius

That is unfortunate. So these days we just let people fall victim to scammers. Nice.

If you really think it's a new scam and people aren't yet aware of how it operates then as well as the Abuse Report, you could summarise on the forums how it works, without giving any names or locations.

However, I'm afraid that the people who tend to get scammed are not those who frequent the forums, and so the best way to stop the scammer is to raise the Abuse Report and let Linden Lab look at both who it is and how they're tricking people.

Well-meaning attempts to warn people can sometimes backfire spectacularly, as in a few years ago when people were advised to delete a certain dll from the windows directory because it had been associated with a particular trojan attack. It was an essential part of windows.

You can post the scam text but don't name and shame it's quite common the account posting the scam is an innocent resident that had their account compromised when they clicked a link on a scam and didn't promptly change their password. one recent scam was posted/discussed in a weekend sales group i'm in and if the compromised account that posted the scam is unlucky when they get their account back it'll have been looted

Or the "scam" is a case of the reporter not understanding how something works. Not that we ever see that in the answers section, mind you...

It's also a violation of the TOS.  If you buy L$ from anyone other than the LindeX and LL finds out, you could be in trouble.

3.3. Linden Dollars may not be purchased or sold outside of the LindeX exchange.

Any purchase or sale of Linden Dollars through any means other than the LindeX is not permitted and is considered a violation of these Terms of Service which may result in suspension or termination of your Account.
