Question

For about 6 months one of my adult venues is being pestered by a griefer. He started by kicking around guests at my place, but once I caught him doing that I banned him.

Then he came back with larger equipment. He managed to kick my guests again while he himself was outside my venue, standing on neighboring land. He uses some sort of tool with a huge prim that he swipes through my venue, thus kicking out all the avi's that are not sitting on anything. And because I have already banned him, there is nothing I can do about it.

Now I've sent several abuse reports about this person. I found several of his alts and named them too in the abuse reports. I added pictures of him hanging right next to my skybox, I made pictures of the griefing tools he uses, I mentioned the names of the tools and the creators. I filed these abuse reports several times.

You'd think that something would be done about it. But no. The guy is still around and today he was again griefing my place, kicking guests out and annoying everyone.

I asked LL's Live Chat about this, and they gave me some bogus answer about the Governance Team working on abuse reports and them not being able to reveil anything due to privacy.

I've been around in SL for 14 years now and I have had several successful and busy venues. Over the years I have experienced several times that griefers could be active for a very long time, despite lots of abuse reports against them. Which brings me to wonder: how does this Governance Team work? How do they deal with abuse reports? What sort of proof or evidence do they need to actually give a temporary or permanent ban to a griefer?

Can someone explain this to me?

The governance team gets well over 1000 reports per day, from invalid reports such as someone upset that their gf/bf cheated on them, to very serious issues such as someone bringing down regions left and right.

While it may seem that the governance team isn't dealing with the situation, I guarantee you that each report is looked at and dealt with accordingly.

For privacy reasons, they can't reveal the progress, status, or outcome of a report, because what happens to someone's account is solely between the account holder and Linden Lab.

I understand being left in the dark like this can be frustrating, it has frustrated me sometimes too, but I put those frustrations aside knowing that the governance team does look at each report, and doesn't toss them aside because "handling more ticket = more money for the employee" like some other companies do(if you know the gaming industry, you know who I am talking about).

All reports are handled by people who have the genuine best interest of SL in mind. I have met a few myself (not on their main account, but on Governor Linden and other Linden accounts). They really do care and will handle the tickets properly.

If you do have concerns about this, you can go to one of the governance user group meetings and ask questions there(please not that questions regarding the status or outcome of reports can't be disclosed): http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Governance_User_Group

I can't tell you what happens behind the scenes since I don't know, but I can tell you from my experience that abuse reports do get looked at. I had someone stop pestering me after I AR'd them. I would suggest including as much evidence you can gather like chat logs if you have any. Or maybe next time he does this, record it using gyazo gif or something and include the link in your AR.

Someone once told me if more people submit an AR, the better. I don't know how true that is but I guess it doesn't hurt to try.
