I understand LL's auctions, and that the lands being auctioned are abandoned lands. Also, I'm aware that when I find an abandoned property I'd like to purchase, I can then request LLs to place it on auction.

What I'd like to know, if at all possible, is there a way to find abandoned lands specifically?

Yes, that's fully understood, not being new to the game of land auctions, but in Map, land for sale has lots of information concerning them, but no mention if they are owned by LLs or not, which would be useful. I'm looking for a way to locate abandoned lands specifically, and I understand you don't believe it's possible.

Linden don't set Abandoned parcels for sale anymore. They used to back in the day when mainland was in demand. Linden only set parcels to auction now

i can't point to a product on Marketplace but there are quite a few HUDs that will scan a region and all the parcel details, including region location, size and owner. Which can help shorten ther search time finding Abandoned land. Using such a HUD means we still have to go to each region to do the scan, but can be helpful. Like when flying along the roads and coastlines

Open the map up and click somewhere that appears to be open land - nothing built on it.  If it is an abandoned parcel, the name of the plot will say Abandoned and it will be owned by Governor Linden.

Not only can you request something go to auction, but if it is not a special property -- next to a road, next to sailable water, etc... -- then you can even put in a Support ticket requesting LL to sell it directly to you.  If there is nothing special about the property, then they will sell it directly to you for 1 L$ per sqm.  In the ticket - whether requesting something goes to auction or is sold directly to you -- specify the coordinates of each corner of the parcel.  They will even sub-divide to sell to you and possibly sub-divide to go to auction, so you can give coordinates of smaller plots within an existing large plot.

This does not work on the LL viewer, but is a nice feature on Firestorm. As for parcels appearing empty on the map, there's a problem with the map at the moment and the pictures show the state of the regions the latter part of last year. If you look at a seasonal area you'll still see Fall season with the browns and golds of trees and leaves.

Best way to find them is to go out and look in regions in which you have an interest, you'll soon see the empty parcels then and a quick click of the parcel 'about land' will soon show the status.

just on this

when a parcel is abandoned then the system inserts a notice in the description field of the parcel: Abandoned by [xxxxxx]

am not sure exactly how Firestorm does it, but maybe picks up the info from the notice

with Linden viewer we have to open About Land to see the abandon notice

Just here to echo that LL does in fact sell abandoned land for 1 L$ per sqm, but I'd also like to say... there are also hundreds of other people looking for abandoned parcels every day and your likelihood of finding exactly what you want, in the quality that you want this way, is extremely slim.

Also, lately, I have requested quite a few for my rental company and have been denied due to multiple requests (others requesting the same parcel and it going to auctions right away). The Lindens do a great job replying and often will give you your request, but I often think that the Auctions or simply using the Land Search tool is your best friend, I have found much cheaper properties this way. You'd be surprised what someone is willing to sell for if they really are ready to walk away anyway and have been sitting on something for a long time... versus paying full price from abandoned land. Food for thought :)
