the day they showed up when I had just logged back in.

Wait this has happened twice in 4 years, and one of those two times was right after you logged in? That sounds like one of those coincidences you see in movies that make you say "no way, that could never happen".

There are good plot holes and there are bad plot holes. 🤭

I wanted to go back to the name change thing. I just realized that changing your name would never work because if the person was ever on your friend list, they will still have your calling card even if you unfriended them. They can then see your new name from that card so changing it would be pointless.

Honestly, I am far from freaked out about this issue, which is why I am not reporting it. It’s just annoying to know that even tho this particular av is not in their friends list, they still know if I go on her. It’s just like someone eavesdropping on your phone call kinda, I didn’t give you permission to know when I’m on, otherwise you’d be in my list. If that makes sense. I appreciate all the advice. I’m not overly worried about figuring it all out considering this isnt an av I use more than a couple of times a year. I mainly just wondered if a name change might be an effective way to block them from tracking logins and logouts. Sounds like there is no way to do that. As suggested by one person, I will probably just not even worry about it and if they are that interested, more power to ‘em lol. It definitely was a power trip thing, to whomever said that. Thanks for all the responses!

Do tracker HUDs people use generally track by legacy name or UUID? I saw somewhere they use an LSL string but wasnt sure if it uses name or UUID. I have an ex that tracks all of my avs. Wondering if I change my legacy name if that will kill their ability to track me. Please dont tell me things like you should report them blah blah...i just want to live my SL in peace. I’m aware what they are doing is against ToS. I am not interested in starting a whole wave of crap. I just want to remove my track ability from them.

You need to make sure you unfriended them if you had a friendship card that gave them the power to map-track you, cut the card, and also block voice and text (which frankly keeps breaking and doesn't work I find). And ban them from any land you are on. You can hide your online status from all but friends too.

Something has changed about that. It used to be that if someone cut your card, and you still had their card, it would say BLOCKED on it and it was worthless. I realize that may be broken now.

You can't hide your online status, period.  Anyone can get that with

I was pretty sure through that thread about the man's wife saying SL is porn we had established this listening HUD could listen to both local chat and IM's.  That thread had just occurred and then I was on MP and saw the device so I posted the link to that HUD in that thread and wrote "here, now you can check if YOUR partner is cheating", but I thought it was established it could listen to both.

Nope.   There is no way, using either conventional LSL or RLV, to listen to anyone else's IM's, unless you're a Linden with access to the server logs.    Can't be done in SL.

You can listen to chat and have a relay IM it to you  (though that's against ToS unless the people whose chat you're monitoring are award you're listening in and have consented) but the mechanisms simply aren't there to intercept IMs.

Yeah, we covered that already early on in this thread.  No need to keep going over it again.

Do you read every single post in every thread you post in? If yes, where do you find the time to read all those posts in all those threads?

I'm just pointing out that not everyone has the time to read every post in a thread so they aren't going to know every detail that has been discussed. Cut people some slack.

Actually it doesn't, because online status is the one thing that can never be hidden regardless of whether they're on your friends list or not.   If you don't want someone to know that you're online at all, then you have to use an alt. And make sure that NONE of your friends know about your alt, because it's likely that one of them is blabbing.

Yeah I mostly tend to agree with you but I also think at least read the first few pages as this isn't a very long thread at all.

There is no perfect science to this, so I basically agree and will amend my own post now.  I am looking through my posts so I can put an addendum that this issue was answered that NO someone cannot read your IM's through a listener, only local chat.

EDIT:  Oh, it's too late, one cannot edit their posts after a day or so.

Always good to read the thread a bit before posting, true, but since I imagine Innula values her sanity we can't blame her for not reading all the posts on this forum....   🤣

Oh, some threads are so long, they are impossible to read.

But, better stay on topic as there is some good advice in this thread.  How to avoid someone who is power tripping on the OP, imo, I think report it but the OP does not want too.  I think they have some kind of listener on them but I cannot be sure, and that one of the OPs friends is an alt to the supposed stalker.   Reporting it can take care of getting rid of any listener, imo.

Maybe this is still so. I am curious now and will have to test it with some friends or an alt.

If a person knows your original name they can use freely available scripted objects to find out what your current name is anyway.  The calling card part is just a distraction from that reality.

You can "construct" a calling card for anyone by right-clicking any calling card you have, choosing Properties and pasting the UUID into the Description field.  After you close the Properties dialog box, the card will change to their latest name.  So I doubt "broken" cards really cause any problems if they are indeed a thing.  You can just create another.

*waves hands* It's all an illusion.

Here is one thing if you show yourself online (Via Firestorm viewer) if that same person is in the same group as you. Let's say you go to a sim and the sim has a group well if you check the box those who see you online via the group will know when you are possibly on the sim. I never heard of tracker HUDS before but anything is possible these days like on IMVU if you don't pay a certain affiliate money to hide your profile anyone who searches your name or ID number can find your rooms and places you have visited. Kind of beats the purpose of those who want to hide from certain people. I stay offline on firestorm and I keep my second life homepage to friends only from prying eyes. Just remember when you change your name they will know via seeing your profile has changed because you still own your old name I wish SL would allow if you change your SL legacy name you don't that name or that profile anymore.

That checkbox only concerns your profile's online status indicator, it does not work for groups' member lists. Nor does hiding the group in your profile in any way change whether those within the group with the rights to see members' online status ability to do so.

The one thing hiding groups will do is delay those who are looking for groups to join with the intention of harassing someone. They'd have to do a lot of digging to find which groups a person is in if they don't already know of any. It's not much of a deterrent but something is better than nothing in this case. It won't stop those who are determined and/or have mental issues they need to work on. That's when things go south.

On firestorm, I can see your entire profile using the legacy profile.  I can also see your online status with any viewer using an online tracker HUD/script.  What I can't do is see where you are on the grid.
