A topic in the Mainland forum in which I posted some interesting landmarks from the old Premium East continent got me thinking about how much space in Bellisseria will be needed to relocate everyone in one of the four old Linden Home Premium continents.

Based on the first 8 regions with homes in the north east of Premium East (the largest old Linden home continent) I was surprised how many of the Linden homes are taken - 229 out of 411 (55.7%). My impression is many look empty walking past but many are still resident owned so would need relocating.

Does anyone know how many old Linden home regions there are so we can setimate the overall new homes required in Bellisseria?

When they first started building Bellisseria, Patch said that they would need something like 36,000 / 39,000 - I think - homes to replace the old stuff --- plus however much is needed for folks that want new homes that didn't own old ones.

I've totally lost track of how many of the new homes there are now.

Following up my sample in my OP I have gone to Premium South 1 and looking in a random Japanese region the occupied homes are only 6 with 50 vacant and owned by Govenor Linden so maybe use is very different in different locations. (On another random region 6 also occupied and 50 vacant.)

Homes or parcels?    Certainly on Bellisseria there's a distinction between the homes themselves (which I own, and which count against LDPW's available LI for region, along with all our roads, trees, flowers, community centres, rocks, lampposts and so on), and the parcels on which they seem to sit, which are owned by individual residents, who have the full LI for the parcel available for furnishing and decorating it.

Good question, the answer is homes, as my figures were the 512m home parcels and excluded the common areas "Protected Land - Park". For example using another random region Watanabe: 14 Linden Home parcels owned by Govenor Linden plus the parkland (15 parcels, 48640m² combined area) with 33 resident owned 512m home parcels.

Thanks.    That's what I suspected -- one of the attractions of Linden Homes, both old and new, is that their LI doesn't count against the available LI for the parcel, and in order to do that we have to do some smart building and then have the houses set to LDPW as their group, which means a member of LDPW has to own them (and on Bellisseria it's usually me, because I maintain the rezzers)

The important question, both on Bellisseria and the original Linden Homes regions, is who owns the parcel where the house is located.   If it belongs to a resident, then the Linden Home there is occupied.

One thing that I doubt was considered in the original estimates is the phenomenon of people purchasing multiple premium accounts to own homes in multiple themes.  GoH was certainly in play in the old regions, as people were always hunting the best locations, but there likely weren't too many people who felt compelled to own multiple Linden Homes long term.  Also, most had a favorite theme and stuck to it (Tahoe in my case).

While I don't think they originally took that into account, I have no doubt that Patch has adjusted his estimates based on the increased number of Premium accounts and new homes that have been claimed.   They also know how many old homes are still claimed at any given moment.  So he can probably still estimate pretty well how many of the new homes he still needs --though I have no doubt the number is now higher than the original estimates.

It's also interesting to consider the usage of older LH areas, instead of how many parcels are claimed.  Here are map snapshots that were taken just now of Belli (a traditional and camper set of regions) and Elderglen, at the same degree of map magnification.  Both shots have some water areas in them.  It's clear that Belli is more densely utilized, but Elderglen is less deserted than much of mainland (which kind of makes sense, given the small parcel size).  While that many residents are actually using their older LH's, the prospect of closing those regions seems to me rather daunting.

Perhaps the process will be quite gradual?  I think if I were doing it, I would wait until there were enough Belli homes that there are almost always homes of all types available.  Then start a publicity campaign which is delivered directly to LH owners on the old continents, focusing on MOAR PRIMS and the ability to have skyboxes (since clearly these LH holdouts are not motivated by community or newness, and may enjoy the privacy the dwindling density of the old continents offers).  If that doesn't get older LH residents moving, perhaps some limited-time financial incentive would help.

Patch's statement that the older LH regions would eventually close has always puzzled me, given how tolerant LL is of the huge swaths of mainland that are basically deserted.  Perhaps empty-ish LH regions require more manhours to support than an equal swath of empty-ish mainland?
