SL won't let me change my account from premium to free

Contact Support (the Support link is literally on the bottom of every SL web page).  As long as you are still Premium, you can even use Live Chat:

Also, remember that your Premium membership is prepaid.  You may cancel at any time, but all that really does is cancel the automatic renewal at the end of the current period that you already paid for.  You will keep all your Premium perks except being able to own land on the Mainland until your membership runs out.  Then your status will change from "Pending Downgrade" to "Basic".  Linden Lab does not issue refunds.

Hi Ailsa! There are some common reasons for this to occur.

1. You have a Linden Home. Go to your home, click World/Parcel Details, and click the Abandon button.

2. You own Mainland that is not a Linden Home. Either follow the above procedure to abandon it, or sell it.

3. You have donated tier to one or more groups. Check the Land and $ tab of your groups' information window. If that shows you're making a donation, change it to zero.

4. You owe money for a membership renewal. This can happen if you removed your payment method, or your credit card expired. LL won't let you downgrade your membership until you pay your past due amount.

If none of the above apply to you, then file a Support Case as suggested earlier in the thread, or call LL Billing at 800-294-1067 or 703-286-6277 during working hours, west coast time.
