Hello again to the forums!

I'm hoping I can get some help here; primarily, I'm looking to add in OpenCollar scripts into an item I own.

I recently purchased a choke-chain collar that I am very, very fond of and I was hoping to add in the OpenCollar scripts into it to turn it into a proper collar with controls and all. Listen, I have roleplay needs--  I have done some looking around and reading on how to possibly add in the scripts that I want to work with this collar but I may not be doing something right. I'll have this collar rezzed, either worn or on the ground, I'll drag the scripts to it, drop them in on the content tab, check to make sure they're there, and then click the collar in an attempt to get the updater script to work and integrate into the collar.

However, every time I attempt to add in the scripts, they don't seem to work. Insofar as I know, I should be able to just drag and drop the script controls into the collar and then update those scripts and I have tried the OpenCollar seeder script but nothing seems to happen; I have tried clearing the scripts and readding them more than once and I am doing this on a copy of the original item which I don't think would affect it in any way; all I want to do is rig this item to work as a collar.

Any advice on how to get this working would be vastly appreciated, thank you.

I think that's the wrong website @Innula Zenovka.

I know that Open Collar forked, somewhat acrimoniously, a year or so ago, but I don't know what's happened since.   That's the website for what I regard as the "Official" OC.

The forked version is at  http://www.opencollar.at

I don't know what the differences are, and I've never tried making a collar using the forked code, but I would imagine the two processes are very similar.

As to the split, I had both old friends and scripting mentors on both sides of the fight and, since I don't use either flavour of OC and have no desire to fall out with anyone, I stayed out of it.

Just to double-check, are you familiar with this site,

https://opencollar.cc

and are you using their latest set of scripts?

I would have thought the OpenCollar group inworld would probably be the best place to ask for help

https://world.secondlife.com/group/45d71cc1-17fc-8ee4-8799-7164ee264811?lang=en

I honestly don't know if I am using the 'correct' set of scripts. I have done some reading around and saw that the group's split apart so I'm not sure which one would work better. Looking at the website, however, this is a script set I have downloaded. I have unzipped it but I'm trying to figure out where the scripts are at. I know enough to recognize potential scripts but not enough to be sure if I'm doing this right and I don't want to 'break' anything, so to speak.

But I will consider the group and asking for aid if I can. I admit, I thought it was as simple as "here, take these scripts and plunk 'em into the content folder of the item" and I'm fairly sure I was on the root prim but I might not have been. Either way, I'll check out the forked scripts that you mentioned as well and see if those work for me. I have looked at both forks of the scripts and while I admit that I don't see much difference in them, I'm always happy to listen to advice.

Would the permissions on the collar make any difference? I thought I read somewhere that I could just weld in the OC scripts into an item.

Edit: I looked to see if there was a developer kit for the scripts for the Peanut No 9 collar and while there's a link on the website, it doesn't seem to be around anymore. I'd like to play with it but alas, it's gone. Is there an alternative mirrored site where I could possibly find these scripts to try?

No, there's rather more involved than that -- it's ages since I've set up an Open Collar from scratch but I do remember you have to follow a particular set of naming conventions for the root and child prims. I honestly can't remember about the perms, but that might be an issue, too.

There must be an installation guide with the scripts you've got.    Otherwise, got the website of one or the other of the two groups, see where to find their scripts and also look at the installation instructions you're bound to find somewhere on the site.

It's not difficult, as I recall.    But certainly it does involve rather more than simply tipping all the scripts into the root prim, and it's one of those cases when it really is important to RTFM  first.

Best of luck anyway.

Oh that's actually good to know. I had read everything that I thought would work for this idea of mine, but I'll have to hunt around and see if the manuals are up because I had thought I had done that. But I'll poke around both systems; I have a favoritism for the Peanut collaring system, I admit, because it's the system that works with my spouse and it was a system that I picked up on very quickly so I'll comb through the website and see what comes up.

I appreciate all of the advice and knowing that there's steps I'm missing. I was just wondering if there was like - a script kit or something that I needed as well because I have been looking for a download of the Peanut scripts and I can't seem to put my hands on them anywhere and the one link that looks like it should be working through their website is, unfortunately, leading back to the overview of the marketplace. So if there's some alternative that I can go through, knowing that would be of major benefit.

I didn't think this would be anything difficult but I didn't know there was naming conventions that were involved so that's a helpful thing already!

Thank you all the same, though.

I'm a long time out of the OC world but I really think the next step is to join the support group for one flavour of OC or the other and ask for advice there.    There will be some devs there, I am sure, who will be glad to talk you through it.
