Sofia Gray
Hi everyone, I apologize if this isn't the right place to ask this question. This is quickly becoming one of my biggest pet-peeves when I log into SL... I am finding on a more regular basis that when I log in most of the time my IMs are capped and I have notecard delivery spam from random stores/clubs/djs clogging up my notices for stores/places/people that I've never heard of/never been to, never purchased from, don't follow on Flickr... etc. etc. While I understand that these sorts of things might be great advertising options for some people trying to push their brand in SL; I really... really hate it. Is my only option to right click the link of wherever the delivery came from and block it? I've tried looking up on the map where the items deliver from to see if there's some sort of machine or HUD I can click to be unsubscribed but that's only ever worked for me once. I'd honestly prefer not to block them in case there's a point in the future where I do want to be added to these lists, but also moreso curious if this is SL's version of falling off why we need the "Do Not Call" list for telemarketers..? Any thoughts/advice? Thanks! ♥ - Sofia (...also sorry if this is the wrong place for this...)

That will at least keep you from losing anything if the IMs get capped inworld. If it is for places that you did not sign up to receive stuff, first go to the location/store/club/whatever and click an any Unsubscribe thing that you can find. Then IM the owner and tell them that you will AR them if the notices continue. For any additional notices, return to the location and file an Abuse Report against the owner using the Spamming category. I also IM the owner of said place and let them know that I am now abuse reporting them for spamming me. Sometimes they take me off the list and sometimes not. I continue to return to the location and Abuse Report again every time I get another spam notecard from them. Unfortunately, if often takes many ARs, but usually I do end up finally getting off the spam list. Also, add those places to you list of "never ever go there again".

It's been a bit of a plague. I went ahead and prepped for it. Just throw that at the sender, file an AR ('Disturbing the peace -> Repetitive spam'), put 'Unsolicited Advertisement' in the summary, in the details you can put whatever blurb you want, just put something short and concise. Then block them. Another alternative which you could turn to is to go to your preferences -> Privacy -> General -> Only friends and groups can call or IM me. This does hinder everyone outside of your contact list from contacting you through IMs though (not sure whether they can still send note cards). As far as whether it's 'great advertising' .. I don't know. I wouldn't step anywhere near a store that did that, personally, but then I'm a pretty acrimonious person.

It will not stop anyone from sending notecards, LMs or any other inventory item.
Kimmi Zehetbauer
Sometimes rogue DJs will scan many groups such as some music groups and spam people in the group list. I actually PMed one of the DJs who did that and told him it wasn't cool. He just told me something that is not suitable for posting here on the board. I simply lodged an AR on him.
