I see it more as taking a blob of clay and making something you want out of it..

My doll when i was little was a monkey made out of socks..hehehe

Ever since I started, I have thought that SL was very like a big adult game of dolls.

I think SL needs to appeal to the younger crowd and consider mobile as has been mentioned but I'm not sure it's land that new people want.  I'd say most younger people may sign on because they want sex.   I've talked to newbies and for many the thing they want NOW is sex and perhaps to find an internet partner.  What turns them off is the effort it takes to make a mesh avatar and the cost along with extreme confusion about the whole thing - which head, which body, which skin now - applier/bom WHAT?     I'm just going to come and say what I think...I think if someone came up with an easy way to make a mesh avatar in a wear-and-go way as well as much cheaper, SL could attract a younger crowd.  And, have perhaps 10 wear-and-go females and 10 wear-and-go males...but still could be shaped if wanted too.  So, say, a wear-and-go mesh avatar for around 3.5K with both body and head might probably not be a bad idea.  The cost of making an original avatar in the 10-15K L range is not attractive to the younger crowd as it takes too long and it's too expense.   Younger crowds want stuff n.o.w.  Many dudes on the net just want to chat up a girl and then cyber, not make an expensive and time-consuming avatar.

If they want that there's another platform just for them, it's called IMVU.

Joined 2009.. played all the way to 2017, then created a server and built a space for our UNI. Off and on I went back to SL. Just now I logged in after years of not looking at it. Building is awesome in this game, physics not so much... When I logged into this time, I was surprised that I didn't get a mesh avatar.. still the same bugs, bent knees floating around. Felt as laggy as it always had been.
Why can't they fix these avatars and the lag moving around? I get that the world takes a bit to load since it is not pre-loaded like some of the first person games but come on. To be competitive with games nowadays this has to be fixed.
The game 'There' was better than SL has ever been when it comes to avatar movements and physics. Game is just old and would need a better game engine.. Updating only does so much..
As a young adult I would be put off by the looks and motions of these avatars...

I'm a little surprised by how small and Tilia-centric the new board of directors is. Perhaps the owners are planning to learn more about the Lab's larger business first and then add somebody with SL-relevant (non-fintech) industry background to the board.

Yes. I suspect we will see LL try to do something in the cryptocurrency/distributed finance/non-fungible-token/Make Money Fast space. That's what Upland does using Tilia. Think of these things as gachas that cost thousands of times what they cost in SL.

andres-reisinger-the-shipping-digital-fu

This virtual chair sold for US$5000. It's a no-copy, no mod item which you can import into Decentraland, Somnium Space, or Minecraft. Not, as yet, into Second Life.

A lot of what's going on in this space involves monetizing fandoms. One of the NBA team owners is into this.

Tilia may try something along the line of "X is making billions in this space. All we have to do is become their payments provider and siphon 5% off the top."

Expectations:

- Actual water physics adjustable water waves for enjoyable sailing experience.

- If possible without creating security flaw allow SIM to preload assets for fast and smooth gaming experience. Hard / Impossible to develop accurate weapons, stable vehicles due latency problems. Preloading SIM assets into encrypted file for local access might help.. or any other alternate solution.

- Simplified avatar appearance interface for newcomers

- Improved group management (Allow only group owner or moderators see group messages to prevent off topic / hate speech / spam).

- Lower price land rentals.. we are slowly approaching a price tag land rental cost consumes small / medium business owners all income.

- Fix marketplace :) it is constantly collapsing for months.

I have many other suggestions but this is enough for now...

Reality:

- No improvements same business as usual.

business-as-usual-hi-five.jpg

Even now they have multiple problems not sure if they are suffering from "work from home" or they don't have sufficient numbers to fix it.

I hope they come out with a good mobile app sometime this year. it's really sad that I'm still using an old version of Lumiya to keep in contact with friends when I'm not on my laptop.

At some point, a journalist will research all this and likely discover that this hype was created by people who own or have an interest or are related in some way to Decentraland itself. That's my hunch. I have been getting their press releases for years, and have not gone in their world but that's what I think. They are very big on bitcoin. Last I read, they has 12,000 users. But those could be 10,000 lookie-lous and 2,000 regulars.

When you read about fantastic sums exchanging hands in E.V.E. online, you can surmise, if you have been following it, and talked to people who played it, that this is not the game company doing it behind the scenes but a few very high rolling fans who aren't somehow prompted by CCP but just find it entertaining. Maybe it's a rounding error to them.

With Second Life, you know the Lindens have nothing whatsoever to do with the fact that you have spent $12,000L or US $48 winning the awesome ice sword or that people have paid even hundreds of real dollars for that complete Noah's Ark set. That is, they might provide the dollars to purchase it through Tilia, or cash out the dollars gained from it via Tilia and Paypal, but that's an abstraction, a function, they aren't related to the value proposition itself, which like a lot of NFT, if you could call it that (and I don't think it actually meets the definition) is like a tulip in Holland. I mean, it has a value but then it doesn't and then it dies. I think the Second Life Marketplace is likely the only approximation of a "real" market in virtual worlds because there are many people in this market, they buy things that are approximations of what they need in RL, they buy things that deemed essential in SL, etc. It's not some exotic art show.

Long ago on the teen grid, my son and his friends had a popular mall. They would sell their own creations in SL, that mimicked armour in various war games, and various scripts or prim furniture. They also sold what amounted to tokens, or just boxes with pictures on them, of other things in other games that you couldn't technically reach via the Internet, but which were connected by the people in RL who logged on to both. So you could go there and pay Linden dollars to get the the awesome thing you needed in World of Warcraft, or sell the token of the thing in World of Warcraft that you were tired of for the land you wanted in SL. It was a primitive Metaverse Market of the type that perhaps some day we will have, and it might look like the Star Wars Bar. I sold my first Sims Online sim or avatar with all his skill points maxed and with inventory of rare culled dogs and such, plus the Simmy, which was a player reward, for $150 on ebay, and used that to buy my first piece of land on the auction in SL.

I personally and pretty sure that the Lindens, even on their alts, have had nothing to do with touting the wonderfulness of ice swords and little spice cannisters with animals on them although I can't know everything.

With Decentraland, I'm not sure at all.

I'm trying to convey the differences of versimilitude among these games and worlds.

Then there's @Jack selling his first tweet as an NFT and it's already getting bids of $2 million. But that's not in real dollars, it's in Ethereum bit coins.

BTW, it was two Residents of SL, two avatars, who sent and received the first RT. So perhaps someone might value that tweet. Especially because @jmalthus died tragically in RL as a teenager, on his way to school. He was involved in the Voice project.

I just got a new version of Lumiya that was really good. You could even change the role of a group in it which is really convenient for me. It had other features that I was surprised at. I don't really need it to change my clothes or anything but it allowed you to TP around to various sims.

I think we have the same version of Lumiya. everything seems to work except there is no BoM support. really hope LL will eventually get their mobile app to offer the same level of support.

It helps that I have no interest in BoM. But yes, it would be great if all these things were pushed further. Not sure why LL doesn't care about mobile apps?

Obvious tough actions of the new owners of LL in relation to players without payment information, depriving them of the opportunity to play games and quests Linden Realm and Paleoquest. And as the paid players write, taking away from them half of the much years payment for quests. This speaks of many bad predictions about the attitude towards residents of the second life.

Думаю, у нас такая же версия Люмии. вроде все работает, кроме поддержки BoM. очень надеюсь, что LL со временем заставит их мобильное приложение предлагать такой же уровень поддержки.

in addition, animations do not work and even a simple movement of walking does not work. but in general it can be used for other things like chat, groups. teleport, etc.

Well I have not really been on very much over last year, but been exploring Valkeyrie for Gorrean role play.. Found some land nearby for a small villa base along with all my veg and fountains. Amazing rent price due to my GBP doing well to the US Dollar. As far as I can see, its disappointing to see so much almost extreme sexual content taking over, along with these afk so called dolls that makes SL a giant red light world.

Being in the UK I have to be very careful of avoiding certain places that has animal sex. It's illegal to engage with ***** either in any way, even if simulated. Force and capture unless for a Gorrean story line should really be pulled. Many countries are tightening was is legal or illegal lately online, as there's so many problems already like pornhub (I was a paid member) until visa and mastercard pulled credit card payments, on suspected abuse videos. I feel Second life is behind the curve to ban this sort of content, as with protests against violence toward woman on International woman's day. Second Life should really be leading the way to cleaning up its platform that seems to thrive on disgusting content. As a horticulturist and member of many society's  helping to stop global temps from rising above 1.5% and bee and local wildlife dissappearing I would like to see SL adding a proactive green attitude to supporting real life institutions like Green peace, WWF the Royal society protection of birds, and increase awareness of the Dutch.nl universitat study on ocean plastics supported by Clean seas and NATO. This would interest  younger users to the platform, as they are the ones inheriting my 70 years of being oblivious of the damage we are still doing to our planet, despite the obvious changes to our environment that is at a tipping point. Dumping very explicit adult rubbish. SL could be a virtual world leader on increasing a much more informed and family orientated platform, without adult stuff the age you can join SL could be lowered. Experienced cultivators like me could build sustainable classes on green house growers, farms on lower tier rates rather like farm simulator 19 could be a game changer if Lindens were bolder and look toward a different culture away from smut and questionble content.

A whole bunch of people find gorean RP disgusting.  Me being one of them.

Who would be in charge of deciding what is immoral or disgusting?

My prediction is that by December 31st Linden Lab will be predicting that the Map Tiles will be working 'soon'.

Does anyone know why the hell it's now MONTHS the general map is not updated AT ALL ???

My guess is that over the years they have managed to lay off everyone that knew anything at all about the map processes.  Now, the remaining developer has to dig through tons of spaghetti code to try and figure out how it works.

I have been in that situation myself, and they (the LL programmer) have my deepest sympathy.
