Do Lindens Actually Get the Gifts?

So you know how when you contact customer support you get an email afterwards asking "How was your interaction with X?"

Then it says you can give them a coffee, a "long lunch," or a gift card. I always choose "gift card" because I figure that's more useful than a coffee that they consume and it's gone.

I'm not sure if "long lunch" means they are given extra time for lunch or an actual free lunch, but again, gift card seems more practical.

I wonder if they actually get these things "as is".

I can imagine they have some ratio system like, "After you have earned 25 gift cards, we give you $5". I can't imagine that it's very generous. I bet the Apple Fall $2500 "show up on Monday" thing, for example, or The Bearded Guy's $3000 New Year's gift card, or what have you, are actually worth far more.

But maybe someone knows if the Lindens get anything at all, and in what form. I always check off five stars and a gift card even if they can't resolve an issue because at least they showed up and listened, except when they are closed on holidays -- which I still think they should not be.

In my building, there's a fund to add tips for the door men, janitors, security etc that is split evenly, and everyone gave generous tips because of all the extra work from COVID, especially those Amazon packages.

But you can't tip Lindens, and they don't have an annual fund like this and in any event it wouldn't work out to much for them.

I've sent some Lindens a New Year's greetings and an owl thing I made but sadly because search is broken I can't find some of them even after paging like 20 pages in.

That's interesting, how you put it. It's true that the picky work that we all have to do in SL can be a strain. For us, we can "go back to RL" which often works better, even if you can't fly. But the Lindens are stuck there all day. So yeah, long lunch, I hadn't thought of it that way.

It seems like those who aren't customer facing should have a reward. Like whoever fixed the rezzing bug issue today in record speedy time, he/she should get "long lunch".

same. I would rather have a long lunch every time if I ever got a choice between that and a gift card

altho! if i could cash in my gift card for a bottle of wine then I would save it up fro my next long lunch if I ever got one. Then I probably need to take the rest of the afternoon off on incapable of seeing my screen properly anymore lieu half day leave 😸

Thank you @Prokofy Nevafor starting this thread.

I remember at university attending a lecture on 'the rewards people get' (that wasn't the title, but I forget it, some fancy politics thing) where the premise was that people who got fair wages didn't need thanks and tips, so we shouldn't give them.  I guess this is politics and shouldn't be on the these forums though...

I always love being thanked, and try to do it myself whenever I can.  I think it makes the world a better place.  It's my favorite forum reaction too.
