OK, I really have to ask what's going on.  Man Cave (lots of holiday gifts) has been full for many days. That isn't terribly surprising. Patience is a good thing.

BUT -----

A friend got in late one night when the sim had just been restarted. He was already a group member but no matter what he did the only message was "you need the correct group tag" (which he DID have active). Most everyone else there was getting the same "need tag"  message but a FEW folks seemed to be getting a gift or two.  He left the group then rejoined the group to see if that helped. It didn't. After trying for a fair amount of time he gave up.

I sent my alt over the next day (luckily got in) and she had the same issue. "I" went over later in the day (again lucky and watching for the count to go below 35) and I got ONE gift and then the rest all told me I needed the correct group tag.  IS THIS JUST HORRIBLE LAG? Or bad scripts?  It didn't seem terribly laggy there. I can't figure out what the issue is.

If someone knows what you need to do to actually get the gifts I would be very happy to hear the answer.  I don't really want them as they are likely mostly male items, but I would definitely like to know what is going on.

Thanks a bunch.   Heading to bed.

There is a different group that you need to join -- there is a sign on the wall right next to the entrance.  Click that and join that group.  It took me quite a while to figure that out.

ETA:  Group is "The Man Cave Event" -- secondlife:///app/group/14eb54cf-bb31-83c0-9710-d6c4720d03d3/about

Will go back again and look but that WAS the group I joined from the wall by the door. And the same tag all the folks were wearing. I'll let you know.  So confusing -- especially when it obviously isn't just ME.  Thanks!!!!

NOPE. Joined from your link and get the same message.

Note that once again the FIRST time I clicked on a gift jar it "said" it was sending the gift to me --- but nothing ever arrived. The next time I clicked on ANY jar (well I tried a few) I got the "wrong group" message.

I give up.

One thing about that particular arrangement is that the giver objects spam open chat so you get to hear everybody's success and fails on givers anywhere near your avatar. That was a little confusing at first -- and massively annoying afterwards.  Although later when I unboxed them I found a few of the gifts were good enough to keep, I was so glad to get the hell out of that place!

But once I knew to ignore everything in chat I had no problem receiving the gifts (except for one or two of the merchants who were evidently unclear on the concept and had no items remaining in their giver's inventory).

Yes, noted that. That is how I knew others were getting things when I was not.  Watched carefully. NEVER got anything ^^. Guess it will always be a mystery.

Hmm - was there a second sign.  I know that I joined one group and got that message from a few of the gift givers. Then I looked around and clicked something else to join a group and then I got the gifts.

I'll go dig through my chat log.

ETA:  I can't find reference to any other group, but I thought I had joined a different one at first.  Anyway, what I pasted is the group that I joined before the gifts started delivery correctly, so I'm not sure what is going on now.

Did you check the gift was set to the right group?  Often gifts are set to the event creators group instead of the event customers group.

YES I AM LOOKING AT YOU TRES CHIC!!!!

All of the gift objects were set to "Man Cave Team" or something like that and that one is a private group.  I assume they are using a script that has the group name it wants hard coded in it rather than checking against the group of the gift giving object.

I really think I checked all the possible issues. I thought maybe I had blacklisted the owner of the gift jars?  Why I have no idea, but that wouldn't account for my alt and friend having the same issue OR indeed a ton of folks getting that "wrong group" message in chat when my friend was having troubles (he wasn't clicking so not him at that point).    Often there are some creators that set to the wrong group, but again, I checked that and this was a gift giver script like used at Cosmo it seems. Also there WERE some jars set to the "fan" group and not the "land" group and of course they didn't work either.

So far as the gift chatter in chat (and I agree that is annoying when lots of folks are clicking --- I watched carefully what I clicked (it told you the name of the store most times) to make sure it was ME getting that message (yes, many times) AND of course nothing ever appeared in my inventory.

I tried three times, that's enough.    Glad it worked for some of you.

Moving on LOL.

Right click the vendor and go in to edit, what group is the vendor in? Usually needs to be in the same group you are wearing the tag for.

That was my first instinct, but not this time.  The group assigned to the gift vendor is "Man Cave Team", a private group that cannot be joined  by all.

I noticed that too and didn't think much about it until now. There are a very few ways to check for a different group and (standing naked of all attachments in the middle of Man Cave) I may have found an explanation: They're relying on the group settings of the toucher's attachments to figure out what group they have active.* Remove all attachments, and it has no clue and will fuss about wrong group active every time. Add an attachment while the desired "Man Cave Event" group is active, and everything works again.

Now if this is the explanation, Chic and her friend deserve an award for responsible event attendance with truly minimal lag-inducing attachments. (Or maybe it's something else altogether.)

I've not messed with attachments at all.  When I popped back over last night to check, all I did was touch the group sign on the wall, join the group listed in chat and then touch a gift giver - and I got the gift.

Yeah, but you had attachments, right? If you change group, all your attachments assume that new group (and any new non-Temp attachments get that group too).

Well THAT is bizarre and I typically don't wear a lot of "stuff" just rigged clothing and nowadays textures.    As I mentioned Cosmo has in the last year or so gone over to the "rez as land group" thing  for gifts but I had no issue getting things there -- although there were MANY times that I got three or more copies of the gift so a hiccup there.      Right now the only attachments I have on are HUDS and maybe huds don't count so if that is true the Maitreya hud  which I often take off and very old facelight (for photos but I often forget to take it off) may not be recognized -- it is frequently missing too, I just don't remember what I was wearing during my previous tries.

I will go test again when I can get in -- mostly because I want to know.  But how nasty to penalize folks for being "good".    AND when my friend was there after the sim restart and things weren't working for lots of people MAYBE that was because their attachments hadn't attached yet?

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Ahhhh - gotcha.  I did not realize that (about attachments).  Yes, I did have things attached.  Normally, I go to events as a full alpha, but I did not for the Man Cave - either time that I was there.

Never ever had that issue before with attachments.  The vendors, on the other hand, probably rested the gift under the team group rather than setting it to the open Man Cave group.  That would explain why some gifts were received and some said wrong active group.

So I did my test to no avail. I added a BUNCH of attachments -- earrings, ear muffs, cane, glasses. I joined the group from LIttleMe's post (the same group I had joined MANY TIMES -- and teleported to the event (now fairly empty). I waited for everything to rez. I then clicked on about eight gift giving jars along the row. The Stray Dog one was working for some people all this time I know as it said so in chat -- not for me though.

I got nothing but the same "group tag" message as before.   I also checked both asset and blocked lists and nothing blocked there (didn't think that was the issue but checked anyway).

This is NOT making me feel all that friendly towards the event where I DO ACTUALLY buy things now and then.  Oh well. Thanks everyone for trying.

Once I joined "The Man Cave Event" group, I was able to get every gift -- even though all of the gift givers were set to a different group (Man Cave Team).

Given that, I'm not sure what is up with the gift giver script.

Thing is, though, I don't think we know why this is happening, so I'm not sure what's event-specific yet.

I do think the scripts could be less spammy, and more seriously, those scripts seem to fail to recognize active group for some people... BUT we don't know WHY those scripts sometimes get it wrong. The approach based on attachment group, that's pretty textbook now, but maybe there's a bug we don't know about. Or something.

We may never know. Although... should we point the scripter to this thread? unless somebody has an explanation I missed, which is very possible.
