I want to thank all the folks that been responding to my newbie questions and helping me here and there 🤣

I've been here for a good 8 months and have always wanted to house boat

so I've noticed,  whenever I fly around different LL ports (?) if that's what its called,

some of these boats are owned by either a lot of LL employees or the boats are owned by groups that  acquired the boat houses like 2 years ago but seems unlived in (?)

Are they're any signs to look for to distinguish if some of the unlived in house boats are abandoned? or can we request a boat from a LL employee? lol?

You get a houseboat by trying your luck on the web page along with everyone else.  A boat is tenanted, empty or otherwise, until such time as the possessor downgrades to a basic account or abandons the parcel. What a person does with their parcel is up to them within the region Covenant.

People have every right to get any type of Linden Home -- Traditional, Houseboat, Camper/Trailer, Victorian, Log Home, etc... --- and never live in them or rez a single thing there.  The home is part of the privileges of Premium membership.

As to the ownership: The Land information will always show a single name as the owner, whether that be an avatar or Governor Linden (or sometimes an LL employee during the final QA of a home).  A group may or may not be listed, depending on how the owner wishes to use it.  ALL of the public land between the houses/boats/etc... will show LL as the owner.

You cannot request any home directly from LL.  You can only go through the Linden Home page and request a specific THEME/TYPE of home.  You will get a random assignment based on what is available.

Houseboats have been scarce on the LH land page for quite some time, and now they are extremely rare.  HOWEVER!  There are a WHOLE lot of houseboats ready to be released along with the new Stilt Homes ... soon :)  Look on the map for a region called Swim Shady; all those houseboat regions near the red-rimmed regions will be released ... soon.  You cannot TP to them yet.

If you notice a houseboat on the land page, do not dawdle, claim it!

(sorry, I couldn't resist)

Patch Linden will post on his thread right after he releases the Stilt homes and (probably) houseboats, perhaps in the next week or three.

p.s. I've been around a lot of houseboats, a WHOLE lot of LH houseboats, and I've only noticed two owned by Lindens.  Unless you count Governor Linden, which is reserved for properties that are in the queue to be released.

Plus, if you click on a boat or another building like a Victorian, Traditional, Camper, it show that owner of the building is a Mole. This is because the house "root" has to be outside the parcel a resident has claimed. It does not mean that the Mole has taken the parcel.

You see, if the "root" was inside the parcel and said "owned by Joe Resident" or another name, the land impact of the building counted as part of "Joe Resident's" land impact. When the building "root" is outside the parcel, on Linden owned land, "Joe Resident" can spend all the Land Impact om his furniture and stuff.

And as already said, unreleased and abandoned plots pending for release is owned by Governor Linden.
