I have atttempted to contact secondlife billing and secondlife phone for over a week now.  They continue to bill me for items I no longer  have.  I have sent in the help tickets with no response.   I have called there listed phone number and recieve a message "no available to speak to."  Even though it is nice for secondlife to have all of our credit card info and bill us automatically, I for one am not comfortable with this.  Also. It appears that many changes are happening at secondlife in the personnel area which concerns me.  So with that I have abondoned all my lands, removed my credit card information.  If this message gets to anyone at secondlife I urge them to get  ahold of me.  After all they do have all my information, just in case,, this is my log on info  (estrellatom resident).   I am deeply sadened to handle this situation in this manner but secondlife has left me no option.  I would like to know if others are experiencing the same problems with secondlife?  thanks for reading my blog..

If you are talking about them billing you for tier higher than what you owned at the time of the bill -- that is not how the tier works.  You are billed for the "highest" amount of tier that you used in the previous month's time, even if you only used that tier for 1 second.  So, if you now use 4096 tier, but at ANY point in the previous month you used more than that, then they will bill you for the higher amount.

Since you did own some landing during this current billing cycle, when LL goes to actually bill you, they won't be able to because you have no credit card info on file anymore.  At that point, they will send an email about the matter. If you do not clear up the debt within some amount of time - a week or two, maybe a month -- your account will get locked and it will not get unlocked until you pay your debt.

This isn't a blog.  This is a forum that is visited primarily by other Residents.   LL comes here to moderate and sometimes to peruse a few threads, but never to solve anyone's issues here.

This is a user forum, so it's very unlikely that your comment would be seen by any Linden Lab billing staff.   When you tried to contact them, were you using the phone number from the "Contacting Linden Lab billing support" section of the Billing Knowledge Base article and calling during the hours and days that they are open?  Knowledge Base article:  http://Billing - English - Second Life Community

The two things that are automatically billed are premium membership fees and land tier fees.  If you've abandoned your land, there is usually one last charge afterwards, because land tier is billed after the fact (based on what you owned the 30 days prior to your monthly billing date).    If you owned a private region and wanted to terminate that, you should look at the section for "Transferring or Canceling Private Region Ownership" on the Private Regions knowledge base article: Private Regions - English - Second Life Community   If you no longer want to pay for a premium membership renewal,  to cancel that you need to go into your account dashboard and downgrade to basic membership (which will take effect at the end of the membership period you have already paid for).

I'm not aware of anything else that is automatically billed, and to answer your question at the end of your comment, I haven't had any issues for being billed for items I no longer have, nor have I ever had need to contact Billing Support, at least not yet, anyway.

I hope that you are able to get everything straightened out.

Sounds like someone simply forgot to tier down after selling/abandoning land.

You do not need to actually change that radio button on the Land Use page.  You will only ever be charged for the amount of tier that you actually used in the previous month.  My radio button has been set to 1/2 region for 4-5 months now, but I've reduced my land holdings enough that I have only been billed $7 per month for each of those 4-5 months.

The only thing that button really does is set the level at which the system warns you about increasing tier if you happen to go over it.

That had to change sometime as I forgot to tier down once back when I was selling regions and got hit with fees over my current tier rate for an extra month despite not actually owning enough land to be in the bracket I was in. I distinctly remembering at one time, tiering down was a thing that should not be forgotten.

I wonder if LL made a public announcement over that change at some point.

All I know is that it has been that way for me for at least the last 6-7 years or so.  I've owned up to half a region before and I only sometimes ever bother moving that setting down much.  The Dashboard values for 'Allowed Holdings' and 'Available for purchase' are based on that setting, so I tend to leave mine at whatever higher setting I'm currently willing to pay and thus the Dashboard will quickly let me know how much more I can buy if I want to.

Today I learned something new... Thank you!
