I want to be able to stack up some items I have accumulated... free stuff for a give away... but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to set an item down that someone else is allowed to pick up.

Do I have to individually transfer items, really? Or is there a magic script that will allow me to load items some how and let my neighbors and friends pick and sort through the items to take what they want?

Sort of  a garage sale I guess. Is there such a thing?

I do not want to charge money for the things I just want to be able to display the things I am letting go of, and want other players to have the chance to pick what they want and simply take it.

I cant find this ... any way I try...

Thanks in advance for any answers.

The most important thing to note that you can only give items that are transferable. You can't give away your entire inventory.

The simplest "giver script" is one that sends the first item in the giver's inventory to the person who clicked on it. But that would mean one person could get everything you have to offer.

The next step is to offer a menu so someone can pick an item from a list... but that alone gets complicated if you've got more than 12 items to give.

The next step is to prevent the same person from getting more than X amount of items, if you don't want them to take everything.

The next step is to make it possible to let them preview the items somehow, with a picture or a description or a rezzer.

But even one of these steps adds a whole lot of complication to the giver script, so unless by some miracle you can find something that does exactly what you want (easily), I would not recommend a script. But then you have the problem of individually rezzing things and setting them for sale (for free) using built-in SL features, which means your parcel only has a limited amount of LI and your items may not even fit all at once. And again, the same person can take everything.

Hi. I know it has been a really long time since I made the original post but I just now saw that you replied. After reading your response, I am compelled to tell you how nice it is to see someone who takes the time actually explain things the way you did in your message. Thank you for such a considerate reply. I truly wish I had seen that earlier.

Happy new year. Feel free to add me to your friends list if you want to... I would like to see what other cool stuff you know. haha . Thanks again for a thoughtful answer. ♥

HannahLilly38,

Permissions have got a lot more complicated for items inworld . You used to be able to open parameters of item inworld and set permissions  for everything individually . Note LSL changed this about a year ago when you take them back into your inventory they change and you cant give full copies  from them. The inworld permissions  on properties page does have option for protecting individual parts like scripts; textures . However if they are taken back in to inventory and become permissions for the owner only . To get round this you have to:  Right click the item in your inventory  and set permissions inside your inventory on the item . Once done you can give them to anyone protecting scripts or images from the changes you made to the object inworld. I hope this helps.

You still can.

No it doesn't. The permissions you have for the object won't change.

When it comes to permissions, your inventory shows the most restrictive set of permissions on an item, which includes the restrictions on the object's contents. If you have a full-perm object with no-modify contents and take it into your inventory, it will be displayed as "(no modify)" even if the container is full-perm. The permissions (when rezzed again) have not changed.

If you have a full-perm object with full-perm scripts inside and you take it into your inventory to change the permission of the object, the permissions for the scripts inside of that object will not change.
