In some schemes, 3.

  1. Account 1, the bait/lure,¬†¬†usually a female stripper or escort, sometimes also says she is a ‚Äėmodel‚Äô or ‚Äėphotographer‚Äô. (And no, also not the kind¬†of model or photographer who really is one)
  2. Alt 1, another pretty girl you can call up to ‚Äėjoin the party‚Äô...for extra $L ofc...
  3. The Malt...the male avatar account you can use to chase people away...or make someone jealous over to squeeze more L$ out of the mark(s) in little drama games.

and how do I know? because I know several people who have successfully played out this con - several times.

Same. Which is why not one but several people delight¬†in telling me this kind of crap. But it is what it is. If it‚Äôs any comfort to you, not¬†all of us are like that, but a whole lot of people are. Not saying the adult activity is in any way ‚Äėbad‚Äô, we are all adults after all... I Posted it to highlight the deception aspect. But this is a pretty deceptive place at times, make no mistake.

I thought I had heard LL will be closing accounts that have no activity in a year's time.  I'm not 100% sure about this, but my alts don't have much inventory or none at all, I don't even care if one closes or not.  I just use them for testing 1, 2 ,3....

Anyhow, if the above is correct and you want to keep all your alts, I think you need to log them all in at least once a year.

gonna need proof.  hearsay otherwise.

I think if LL did this we would see a huge low spike in numbers...I do know¬†they have a re-activation process for some old accounts, I had to reverify my email address and do a password recovery to ‚Äėreactivate‚Äô one account but I left it in a land group and there was -L$ balance on it, so that may be why? Oopsie!¬†

I think you or someone is going to have to call @ a Linden (I'm not sure of any name) to get verification on the info I gave as it was on the forums oh only a few months ago so is a "new" thing...all I saw were some residents picked the sad face reactor to that one!  If it's true, we'd better get that clear for sure!

My first/second account had gone un-logged into for over 7 years, and I have an account as of recently that have been inactive for at least a year.

Linden Lab doesn't close accounts that are inactivity unless said accounts are in a delinquent state(owe money), the account gets caught in the automatic fraud prevention system, or have had their account stolen. In which case, they may request for it be re-activated by submitting an appeal to support.

While the Terms of Service states in section 3.1 and 3.4 that Linden Lab may, although a rare occurrence, reclaim any Land and Linden Dollars on an account that "ceases to maintain an active Account", there is no mention that Linden Lab will terminate an account that has remained inactive for a period of time. I have never heard or read anything regarding closing accounts that are inactive in the Linden Lab or Second Life legal documents/user agreements for as long as I have been keeping updated on the Terms of Service.

To help drive this home, this would go against LL's promise on the Delete Account page that states residents do not need to delete their account as "Second Life name, friends, avatar, and inventory" will be retained for those who "wish to take a break and return in the future".

i can confirm they dectivated accounts in a long gone past, not deleted, but as all gone accounts, no access by the user unless by support.
Think this was pre 2008.

I'm from 07,  I've got a few accounts from 07, that I've not logged in since.   hm.

they might be in the same pool as all "to be reactivated" accounts with the automatic system now? .. just special ones are only released by support themself.

First there was just me. Then I had a couple of bake fails which spooked me, so I made an alt as a fall back. It was fun, and I meshed her up, and gave her clothes. I found that I enjoyed creating avis. So I made a second alt/third sister. That should have been it. But then a friend challenged me that if I made another, he would know it was me. He had met all three af us. So I made a fourth sister, and he didn't know it was me. That should have been it. But I wanted to go BoM without messing up my sisters. So I made another as a BoM tested. Invariably she got a wardrobe, so now we are five, and we all come in world.

Finally, I was encouraged to make a Malt for photos, by a small group of forum friends, so we each have a Malt. One day we hung out together. It was odd. He only gets in world for a specific task.

Some years back, I thought I wanted to roleplay. So I created 2 alts for that, that should be my "couple". It was talk about how all roleplayers wanted to be lords or ladies, or wizard/halfdemon/illegal son of Prince...

And nobody wanted to roleplay a nobody. But I had a lot of fun creating two lower class citizens, but now so low as the raggedy thieves. Just everyday people minding their work. Finding clothes that matched their class and creating a backstory with some hints that could go here or there, but nothing extraordinary.

I turned out to be brilliant in creating the personas, but never got involved with roleplay... I lost interest in roleplay as soon as they were finished, I just wanted to work on their looks. When I had them ready, I wanted to do other things. Everything I do, I rush through, so I can do something new. Wasn't it a poet saying so?

So that was 2 alts that started as roleplayers, but were never used for it.

I was an alt. Original is from 2007 but I only stayed in-world for half a year then 3 years later when I regained interest in SL I could no longer remember my legacy name and login details so I made this avatar. Active from 2010-2012 until RL got extremely... exciting, to say the least.

If this is true then I am glad I resuscitated¬†my AV¬†this year,¬†I was in a ‚Äúcoma‚ÄĚ for close to 8¬†years. Felt like Black Mirror S3 E4¬†San Junipero. If I remember correctly, it was bound for deletion or something (not sure if I requested it to be deleted when I last logged-out or if this is the mass inactive account termination¬†set in place) so I had to do the reactivation process. Good thing with being sentimental is that you remember answers to certain security questions that make you blush in chagrin, and good thing about LL being slow is that they took forever to delete my account so I was able to get it back.

I have 4 accounts that I use almost daily, depending on the mood,  and they are all the same species. lol  but each do have their own personality.

Kind of same here. 4 alts: all human, different ethnicities and genders (male, female, transwoman, non-binary), each have their own personality and lifestyle that do not intersect with one another because I made them exclusively for very different roleplay communities; the male one is technically not an alt anymore as he is now being played by my RL husband who got into SL 3 months earlier, and then the non-binary alt I recently turned into a building and landlord account because I discovered the joy of building and conducting business in peace. I probably have dissociative identity disorder lol or maybe I just enjoy the creative process of making avatars and experiencing life from a different path but one thing I am sure of is that compartmentalizing your SL with alts if you roleplay or do business in SL contributes to better mental health. alt whispers: no, she is not an authority to speak about mental health, lol

Yes, I can attest to this as I have seen this over and over. I have also met¬†‚Äúhigh class‚ÄĚ club owners who employ 100¬†alts as staff and customers to make it look posh and thriving and take advantage of clients with their mini drama games, the list goes on...¬†count yourself very¬†lucky if you lived an unscathed sheltered secondlife (or secondlives to include your alts)

You might be getting mixed up with the Tilia account. If you have one, then you have to log in to it once a year to avoid inactivity charges. This only applies if you (or the alt account in question) ever cashes-out, it's irrelevant otherwise. And you'd have to log in to your account dashboard on the website, no need to log-in inworld.

That's the change that was announced about a year ago.

I thought I read somewhere that LL was planning to delete mp stores with no activity but I could be misremembering. I really hope they don't do that.

I was in that thread with a Linden about making Marketplace better, especially the search.  A resident said she wanted to over-ride "the older merchandise" which there are those of us who know how to do that by choosing from the drop down menu, NEWER FIRST, which will show all the new items listed.  However, a Linden said they do close a MP store 'if' there is no activity in the store for two years.

As far as if this information about closing accounts that have no activity for a year....I don't remember a word of it being mentioned in regards to Tilia nor Tilia even being mentioned at all.  Since I got THANKS on the first page where I posted the info in this thread, it seems others saw that too.  And, the info was presented in an official manner not just from a resident.  It might have been a LL blog or something.

If anyone has alts they care about, I'm suggesting they find out.

I would presume that in this case, "no activity" doesn't just mean that the store owner isn't maintaining the store but also that there are no sales either. So presumably, old stores that are still popular and selling would be left alone.

They didn't say anything about closing inactive Tilia accounts, only that there would be a monetary charge if the account was left inactive, and the way to avoid the charge was to log in at least once a year.   I have certainly never seen anything about deleting inactive SL accounts.

We need someone to find that blog post, or a comment from an actual Linden on this matter. @Kirsten Linden maybe? @Strawberry Linden Beuller? Anyone?

It wasn't about Tilia accounts though because I would have known that as I don't cash out ever - all my lindens I make I spend in the world.  Even if I made $400 hundred U.S. dollars suddenly (which I won't as I don't have any such of a big store so just using as an example), I'd still keep that all in lindens for the world as I love buying the stuff made here.  So, if it was about Tilia accounts, I would have know that as it wouldn't include me.

But, perhaps this was something to do with the buyout in that maybe the buyers want to know how many actual accounts are actually active within a year's time frame.  I'm curious why no one has officially spoken about this yet in this thread.  Perhaps doing it - closing accounts with no activity over a year's period is in limbo now or being re-considered is all I can think of.

But, yes, in regards to MP stores that 'have' activity within a 2-year time frame will not be closed.  A Linden said only stores that have no activity for a 2-year period are closed.

I don't know if they are deleting the actual MP store, but they are deleting MP content that has not sold in xx amount of time - I don't remember the specifics.  They posted about it and the details are likely in the Knowledgebase MP section.

That applies if you've done it yourself.

Inactive or canceled accounts

As long as you're in good standing with Linden Lab (not delinquent with billing or otherwise in violation of the Community Standards and Terms of Service) your Second Life account can remain inactive indefinitely. This means that your avatar and inventory will continue to be stored on the Second Life servers.

Re-activating a canceled account

If you have canceled your account, you may be able to restore it, depending on how long ago it was cancelled.
