With the unfortunate closure of Century City, and N.O. LA we lose two Modern / Urban sims. I know the current hotness is Modern/Supernatural but I really can't get my zen when it comes to the whole Supernatural aspect. Past experience has seen them always having people that have no clue how to hide being supernatural and it being sort of an arms race as to who's made up monster is more badass than the other people's made up supernatural monster.

So I am curious, what Modern / Urban sims there are out there?  I know of the following:

Santa Ramona

Seeter Ma

La Lune (Though that seems to have let werewolves in recently?)

CrackDen

Dark Alley

Are there any other hidden gems out there for we folk that just want to play normal humans?

Hii, I like Urban too!!!

You also have Paradise City, PMI and Gangster Town.
I am currently in Paradise City, a city with health and energy, economy, jobs, rival gangs, police, prison and secrets. It is true that it is in a reconstruction process but if we help among people who want to role play, it is a good place.

I personally like fun role play, with action too, and that pounding gets that feeling. For example, in Crack Den I have seen how people try to impose their role play when there is a conflict between gangs etc, in Paradise when there is a conflict it is action in real time for shooting etc.

I am a girl who likes emotion, and this has it. We need new people, I arrived in Paradise in August and I am in one of their gangs, in a Yakuza clan. All Urban Noir sims need patience in the players, the one that most people have is Crack Den but what you see there is not Gold.

If you are into an Asian environment, we are inviting human avatars to role-play at Kiyori. It is a unique urban nightlife region and the most immersive non-anime Asian-themed city in SL with various cultural districts including Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Indian, Thai, and Vietnamese. You may also rent apartments (scroll down to listings under Kiyori) and live in the city or just make it your backdrop for your photography or story arcs. RP opportunities could be the usual slice of life community or with darker, more mature story arcs like DE and CD but with predominantly Asian characters, and foreigners and expatriates who live in Asia. For “working girls”, you may use the red light booths and massage spa in Little Thailand or the strip club at Tantra for tips, but please be warned that Kiyori is NOT just a sex sim. It is a community and the sexual aspect is only one side of it. The place is only 3 months old and we are still establishing the website, backstory, rules and such to make it more streamlined but as early as now you are more than welcome to visit and get a feel of the place for yourselves.

If interested you may join the group then contact me or Tiffany Kiyori in-world

I don't know if it's still around, but there used to be one called L.A. (Lost Angels I think it stood for.), but it's supernatural. I've been curious about some of the other ones myself. Some like Crack Den seem more geared towards adult and/or sex themes. I could be wrong, but that was the impression I got so it didn't to much interest me at the time I looked at it. To be honest the problem is a lot of these rp sims don't really give you a very good break down as to what they are really about. So more often then not I end up skipping over them.

While this one is not an urban themed sim the last one I looked at was one call Amazon River which looked nice, but nothing really out there telling you what the sim is about or giving you any clue as to what the story line is of the world they want you to be joining. Not even a basic one. I've heard of Noir which I can't recall if that was urban themed or mid-evil themed, but I was under the impression from a friend who was in to it that it was just a sex rp basically.

Like I don't care if a sim has adult.sex themes, but how do you separate them from those cheesy bump and grinds sims out there? And what if you want to role play on the sim, but not participate in the sex aspects on that side of the house? I mean how does that work? I only ask because a lot of times I avoid them so I am not in a position to make someone feel bad by thinking it's a reflection on them because I don't want to do that stuff and not everyone always reads pick tabs if you even bother to post limits in your profile. Anyway I was just curious mates. Thanks in advance. :)

Most likely the Lost Angels reference is for City of Lost Angels (also known as CoLA) which was one of the oldest Urban/Supernatural RPs and its creator was also the creator of the CCS combat system (CoLA Combat System).  It is indeed closed and has been for some time.

Is Suzanne done with CoLA and CCA now? I checked their website, she posted it needed to be redone. I have some find memories of RPing there when I first came to SL.

I am afraid I have no idea.  I first found out it was closed just like you but some months ago.
