It's mandatory for a creative artist to keep a portfolio. It's more like a proof for a successful business/clients. If the client takes a look on her portfolio, they will trust her. But if a creative artist is unable to show previous work (better a portfolio - flickr based) the clients might not trust. And uploading on social media like insta and Facebook, I wouldn't consider that as a portfolio.
