Second Life Server:

No rolls are planned for the main channel this week.

Second Life RC:

No rolls are planned for the RC channels this week.

On Region Restarts

Regions will be restarted if they have been running for more than 10 days on Tuesday (Main Channel) and Wednesday (RCs) regardless of whether or not new code is being deployed, for the general health and well being of the Simulators. Nothing beats turning it off and then on again ... once in a while.

As always please plan events around these maintenance windows. However, if you are hosting an event on Tuesday or Wednesday when we're not deploying new code, you can restart your region ahead of time to avoid interruptions.

Something has gone wrong in the latest updates/reboots. I see problems when crossing the sim and when trying to do a teleport

Now i am in "Blake Sea - Cattewater".  When I try to cross to another region it is hell. I lose control of the avatar until I lose connection with SL. When trying to reconnect I have to do several retries because my avatar remains in ghost mode for several minutes.

I have had problems with various regions in the area, as well as various regions south of Barbarossa. Too i have lost several boats that for some reason have not been returned.

This is the second week running that nothing in the way of new code has made it through QA to  the RC channels.  I have to wonder if anything is actually going into QA at all. Assuming the latter, what on earth are you guys up to...there are many things that are in need of solutions not the least those outstanding issues reported on the GSP.

Would anyone at LL care to enlighten us?

I would imagine the server Lindens are extremely busy working on the cloud uplift.
In case you were not aware, several regions on the main grid are now being uplifted into the cloud.
Making changes to server code at the same time as uplifting regions into the cloud is likely to be a bad idea because too many things are being changed at the same time, which makes bug hunting much more difficult.

If only this was true, but it isn't, at least not lately, and there are always a lot of mainland regions with 10+ days uptime, until we find them and ask support to restart them, one by one, once they give up after 15+ days and go offline or become entirely unaccessible. Yes, nothing beats turning them off and then on again. What about 7 days, regularly? You don't have to change server code just to automatically restart thousands of regions to make sure they work properly for another week.

@Whirly Fizzle No I was not aware of this (should I have been, I saw no info about this) but yes it would make sense.  I must admit I "suspected" that something of the sort was going on but I knew not what.

@RowanMinx:I watched that from beginning to end and ...OK, it informs me better to some extent (I knew the services uplift had largely been completed), I guess they're a bit busy getting it done by the year end.  It did not tell me anything about actually uplifting regions, nor when that was going to occur, though obviously it WAS going to occur at some point.  I guess Whirly's point is that that IS happening now, and I remain as ignorant of that process as I was before.

Possibly connected to that I was glideing last night and region crossings were really good (other than the two second or so freeze at each crossing) until at one region border the glider stuck fast.  I got some message about some object owmed by the pilot wanting to control my viewer and almost immediately after SL booted me out via the grayscale picture.  I relogged back at home and so far the glider has not been returned to the pilot. who was simply dumped at the border of the region we were leaving, still logged in.

Anyway  I will shut up and await the notice from LL operations telling us that the move is done, I guess.

There are several threads here and there in this sub forum with updates on the uplift.

@Mazidox LindenJJ isn't the only one who's been watching the Blake Sea become a minefield.  It's absolute mayhem trying to cross more than 4 sims in the Blake right now with any aircraft, as the sim you're going into may not actually be there, even if it shows up on the Minimap with the rez-area lines visible.  Fast-moving boats are also affected, according to the multiple reports I have of friends sailing in the area as of today and yesterday, at least.  With the multiple attempts I've had from trying to get from Cannery Cove to Sirens, it appears to only be in the actual Blake Sea sims, as the strait is unaffected.

I'm not sure what's going on.

I've seen that a few times entering Juinita on Robin Loop. It's the usual sequence: vehicle enters new sim, avatar doesn't, fail.

Linden Realms has not really been uplifted at all that I know about - but they did add a duplicate LR region to Aditi , for testing purposes, which is in the Cloud.  You cannot move your Aditi lindens to the main grid or cash them in, so it's just a test.  At least I have not heard LR regions actually being moved - How would I know from looking at the region Info in Help/About?   The region name would be the same.

There is one added LR estate, LR47 etc now, that you can sometimes get sent to thru the portal.  I wonder if that is in the cloud?

You'll see something like this in Help/About: "You are at 71.4, 126.5, 78.9 in Hippotropolis located at ec2-35-163-246-234.us-west-2.compute.amazonaws.com"

Region crossing is always worse over the weekend, higher numbers logged in. There is a fairly regular pattern over the day, low point about now (03.00 PDT) with a fairly steady rise over the next 12 hours to a peak. There's a slow decline for the next 5 hours, a sort of plateau, and then a faster decline. That transition would be late evening on the US east coast, I think.

Very roughly, a low of 30,000 and a high of 50,000.  The only times I have seen the number drop below 25,000 there has been something wrong, once a major cable break somewhere in North America.
