Setting a group to a parcel is not the issue. But is there a setting somewhere that I am missing? After doing so, we have found that every object we put down on that parcel is assigned to the parcel group. There are several reasons this is not desired, is there a way to turn this off?

Thanks!

If you have a different group active when you rez the item, it will use that group -- unless you are using Firestorm and have checked the option to always rez under the land group when possible.  Rezzing items under a different group will only be possible if you open land rezzing up to everyone -- which is not recommended due to that allowing anyone to grief you by filling your parcel with garbage.

Most people that allow land rezzing to everyone also turn on the 'auto-return' setting which will automatically return anything, after a specified time, that is not rezzed under the land group.  That method also defeats your purpose of having items rezzed not under the land group.

setting to group normally has not a lot of influence how a object responses, unless it is also set to be handled by group only. This often is a scripted setting that can be changed.
Only deed to group (doesn't happen by rezzing only) will change the controls and owership. But still will not be completely, depending on the mod/cop/trans rights as set by the seller/creator.
