Hotbabe2004 Posted September 17, 2020 Posted September 17, 2020 (edited) Hi all, I have rather strange case. I found a shop where there are some very nice clothes: leather, latex - that kind. On screenshots clothes look nice, but I tried demo and they look terrible. It seems there is no specular or glossiness at all. I do not think there are even normal maps. I am just curious. Of course it is possible demo clothes are such ugly and full versions look nice, but I highly doubt - why then distribute demo - to make potential customer puke? Or may be they only look nice in some viewers? I am using latest firestorm and in it clothes look like pieces of... you know what I mean. Anybody experienced such thing before? Seicher Rae Posted September 17, 2020 Posted September 17, 2020 (edited) If you mean that the clothes look great in the photo ads for them and not on, then I would believe your own eyes. Lots of things can and are done with ads for clothing, skins, hair... there's Photoshop. Or there is using Black Dragon viewer that with all of its bells and whistles can be a bit like Photoshop. Lucky for you that the shop provided demos, some don't. There have been various threads about "enhanced" photos used especially on skin ads. Edited September 17, 2020 by Seicher Rae 1
Janet Voxel Posted September 17, 2020 Posted September 17, 2020 It also could've been done in Daz Poser, which uses PBR lighting...which SL doesn't have. It's best to demo items, especially when the ad looks too good to be true. 1
Rolig Loon Posted September 17, 2020 Posted September 17, 2020 Do you have Advanced Lighting turned on? 1

Some shops only put a white texture with demo signs on thier demos and some don't put textures on demos at all. Look if they have free group gifts to see what thier textures look like or contact the owner. If there are no gifts and the owner doesn't reply don't buy.
PermaRuthed Posted September 17, 2020 Posted September 17, 2020 If the looks of the demo doesn't improve after turning Atmospheric Shaders and Advanced Lighting on, and cranking the graphics setting to ultra, then I'd conclude the vendor ads are most likely photoshopped to hell and back. 1

Hotbabe2004 Posted September 18, 2020 Author Posted September 18, 2020 Ok people, I have to apologize - this topic is wrong. As it turned out yesterday I was using another viewer (it is not as advanced as firestorm) and probably that viewer has not features to display specular maps and such things. After close examinations clothes certainly feel "photoshopped" at some degree, but it is bearable - nothing too special. Sorry, for spending your time. And thanks for your answers. 2
Kyrah Abattoir Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 It should be seen as a red herirng imho, if product pictures look like they haven't been taken in-world. That's what you are buying after all.

Thanks for letting us know. It IS still an issue though, people who use greatly edited photos for bait and switch tactics. 2
