Hi all,

I'm new here so I'm hoping this doesn't fall outside of regulations: We're a nonprofit group who holds an annual conference. We would like to hire someone to create a SL conference for us so we can invite all those who have participated in person in all the previous years, to join us online. Can someone direct me to where and how I would engage such people who are capable of creating a world for us?

Thanks!!!

The WANTED section of this forum might be good.  :D

Having more details would be helpful. Is this a full sim build?  A quarter sim?   You can only have about 40 people max in a full sim (not a homestead) so if your group is bigger than that it might be tricky.  If you need several regions  and the ability to talk between regions  then contacting someone official might be appropriate ---  just to be able to get the regions for a short amount of time. Your builder will likely need a week if it is a sim build even if they are experienced and fast.

Good luck.

Good luck.

Do you really want a whole world, aka a brand new grid with nothing to do with SL at all? Then it would be pretty rude to search for creators in the competitor's forum.

Or do you want to rent a private sim for your purpose, locked off from the rest of the grid? Contact LL.

Oooor do you simply want to rent a place somewhere for a short time and you would like someone to decorate your plot for your plan?

Overall, you should be absolutely certain that you really want your guests to sign up and create an avatar on a platform with a pretty steep learning curve, especially if you never had any connections to SL before. That might quite likely kill a lot of interest.

Consider contacting Virtual Ability in world. They recently helped create the online conference experience for MuseWeb, so they already have experience.

There's more to a successful online conference than just the virtual space, by the way. Creating the logistics so that attendees can mix and chat with one another outside of the scheduled conference presentations, making provisions for vendors - if you have been supported by them in the past, training presenters to be comfortable using a new technology, etc., etc.

I would be happy to share information and experience with you if you would like. dickd@innovaision.com

Thanks to all of you who have replied. Sorry if I wasn't clear. We do an annual in-person conference and exhibit hall once per year. We had approximately 8,000 attendees and 200 exhibitor booths. While it would be great to include the SL community in our invitation to attend, as it's completely open to all, our purpose is to invite our 8,000 attendees from last year to join us online as well as provide booths for the exhibitors so avatars of our attendees can interact with the avatars of the booth vendors. After that, I don't know...maybe the attendee will be directed to the vendor's website or maybe we can convert my 200 vendors to 200 SL stores? The vendors, in RL, sell crystals, clothing, jewelry, healthy products and some services. None of the vendors would be selling digital items or anything for use in SL. Hope that helps. Thanks again to all who are sending input my way!

That is pretty much beyond the scope of Second Life. You might want to talk to the folks at Sansar (created and previously owned by Linden Lab who own second life. Their system is much different and in theory (theory) MIGHT be able to accommodate you in some way.  But everyone would not be in the same "instance" with everyone else. If there is a platform that can handle 8,000 people 'I" don't know if it :D.  Would be interested to hear from someone if their is.

My dinner date is arriving but hopefully you can ask some more questions and get a better understanding of things here (and on other platforms).   What you want just isn't doable here. 40 avatars per full sim --- you do the math.

I don't think that's what she asked. She clearly said "a SL conference".
