On Region Restarts

Regions will be restarted if they have been running for more than 10 days on Tuesday (Main Channel) and Wednesday (RCs) regardless of whether or not new code is being deployed, for the general health and well being of the Simulators. Nothing beats turning it off and then on again ... once in a while.

As always please plan events around these maintenance windows. However, if you are hosting an event on Tuesday or Wednesday when we're not deploying new code, you can restart your region ahead of time to avoid interruptions.

Umm wasnt  2020-07-31T15:02:15.545966 released Aug 4?

It was on some channels, but not all. With 545966's release to Second Life Server it is now present throughout Second Life.

Better late than never, I guess.

Oh and @Maestro Linden: despite your fine words regions, at least mine (Woods of Heaven), did not get a ten day restart during any of the recent gaps between Main Server rolls.  Hmm re-reading what you write, I must assume that the assessment is only done on Tuesday, so the 10 days elapsing on a Friday doesn't really count, I suppose?

Magnum seems to be staying on 545966 (so far, but roll not over)

BlueSteel and LeTigre are now 2020-08-08T03:54:43.546455 (currently release notes give access denied, but according to Inara Pey's SUG notes this version should include the region crossing code adjustments that were in 545966 so whole grid has it)

The LeTigre regions I know are restarting

Region Crossing has improved a lot, Thursday morning. It's a relatively quiet time of day, I suppose the big test will be the weekend, when several vehicle-oriented groups run assorted journey's across the grid. The first weekend of August was still pretty horrible, last weekend sort of OK.

Why do the Lindens have to rely on Inara Pey to tell us this sort of rather basic stuff?

@arabellajones:

If I was being cynical about the communication issue, I might suggest that Lindens feel they are simply too busy to bother.  More likely they realise that Inara is a far better communicator than any of them and does a better job of disseminating technical details to us, the great unwashed.

Of course it would be nice if they were to acknowledge that but then my first thought rears it's head.

You might think that LL would be keen to take credit when something goes well....*Yes, you might think that, of course I couldn't possibly comment*.

Woo!

Thankyou KT for posting that and thanks to April and the Lindens (not a bad name for a band actually!)for telling us what had been done.

After weekend experience, the new region crossing code is better, but there can still be problems. Some regions still have very sluggish scripting, which can throw off vehcles, and the total download/streaming weight, vehicle and avatars, definitely has an effect. It also looks as though the login level is a factor. That last might be eased on the cloud.

I've not seen any signs of the problem crossings being related to different server versions. If you have a road running through server versions A-B-B and entry tp the middle region is problematic, it doesn't matter whether you are travelling A-B-B or B-B-A
