Question

Posted

I am experiencing static sound spikes all over my land. I rent 1/4 of a sim. If I walk, turn, or cam around my land, I hear this quick static sound. I've removed all of my objects from the land, but I still hear this intermittent static sound. It sounds like static very quickly and stops. I've had several friends visit the land who also hear the static. The Estate owner even restarted the whole region, and reverted my land back to flat land to no avail. My neighbors have a lot of sounds on each of their parcels, but we all have our sounds restricted to our parcels. I can no longer enjoy my land or start building with this sound annoyance. I do not want to give up my land over something like this. Any help on how to identify the sound and get rid of it would be most grateful.

Random unexpected sounds can be frustrating, and aren't always easy to nail down.  Try using a beacon (World >>>Show >>> Beacons, and then tick the Sound Sources box) to locate an object that has an active sound in it.  Those will only light up when the sound is actually playing, so you do need to be patient.  A small object can be particularly hard to spot.  (It may also be transparent, so use CTRL + At + T to make it visible.)

Consider the possibility that the sound may be in something you are wearing or something that is following you (like a titler over your head).

Perhaps also turn off other kinds of sounds in the viewer settings, especially "Media", "Streaming music", and "Voice Chat" to make sure it's really a "Sound Effect" that's causing the trouble.

This suggestion helped me locate the object. The sound object belongs to a neighbor. It somehow has fallen underground to the farthest corner of my land. There is also a bunch of other objects stacked in the corner that are not visible to the eye but are there in Area Search. I have to contact the Estate owner again to have the objects returned as it would not allow me to return them myself. Thank you so much for this advice. You were very helpful.

I will have to update this post after the objects are all returned.

some FYI about what is happening

the position underground at <0, 0, 0> is the initial before_rez (instantiation) point for all objects. At this moment the object is not registered on the corner parcel, is only on the region simulator. Before_rez is followed by on_rez which moves the object to its actual region position

what happens is that sometimes the region simulator fails and the move to actual position is not completed , and as you have observed stuff can pile up down at <0,0,0> which can only be cleared with the estate tools, as these objects are not on the corner parcel, as you have also observed
