Question

Posted (edited)

Or more specifically...

What are the best rocks, minerals, plants, trees, and similar/identical objects, which I can place on my land in Second Life? I already have some natural objects (Including a number of animals), but I'd like rocks, plants, and such which I can change the seasons of, so my lands look more natural. So, please freely send me your Marketplace recommendations...Cheers! EDIT: I already tried to run a search for this, but came up empty, so this is why I'm asking here.

the answers section isn't meant for shop advising, but difficulties with the techie side of the use of SL.
But being grumpy but not the worst... have a look at the work of Alex Bader /Studio Skye.

As animats said there are trade-offs. Some lovely items can't be seen from a distance as they disappear. Others can be VERY high in "land impact" count and so not very  practical.  While we are in the mesh world, there are some old time sculpts that still really are BEST (my interpretation of course. I recently purchased some VERY old bushes / trees on the Marketplace. These have been around forever, you see them ALL over and they are expensive (just one lined object, not  a set).  The shop isn't even open any longer, just on the Marketplace :D.

But I did buy them anyway because thousands (I am guessing but really they are very popular) of folks can't be wrong -- right?   No regrets at all. they are three land impact at any size and hold their LODs very well and didn't affect my FPS much at all. All good things.  So I suggest wandering through some of the sites on the Destination Guide and getting an idea of what others are using and what you like. You can inspect items of others and find the maker.

One person's "perfect tree" is not going to be another's, so you really need to decide for yourself.

Try the search function in Marketplace.

There's a tradeoff. There are low land impact natural objects which look OK, and high land impact objects with seasonal changes, falling leaves, and script overhead.

Alwin and Animats have it right.  This is not the place to come looking for shopping suggestions.  The Answers section is designed for asking about how SL works (or why it doesn't).  If you're looking for shopping advice, you might try posting in the Wanted section or opening a thread in General Discussion.  Otherwise, start searching in Marketplace.  ;)

I like Hayabusa's trees.  They are animated, to mimic wind, and many of them can change seasons.  However, as others have noted, a lot of them can create lag.

HeartVR has always made beautiful plants...and some nice rocks, too.  But the last time I visited their sim, it was pretty much torn apart.  I don't know what's going on with them.  The thing I like least about Heart is that their items are No Copy.  However, they sell some fat packs at not-unreasonable prices.
