That depends on several things.  It's a two-step process.  First you have to sell your L$ to other SL residents through the LindeX.  If you sell at the Market rate, that's almost instantaneous.  If you choose to try for a better price by submitting a Limit order, it could take days (or weeks or forever if you are too greedy), but typically it takes one to three days.  Once you have sold L$ and have US$  in your account, you have to do a credit transfer to send them to your PayPal account.  Assuming that your PayPal account is in order, that process too is nearly instantaneous.  So ... typically a day or even less for most people but you can make it slower.  Lots of people seem to.

Note that "instantaneous" is not always true if this is the first time you have sent USDs to Paypal. You will need to send in documents that prove you are you. Sometimes that works very quickly, sometimes not so much. This is especially a problem if you are outside the US.   So you might want to verify that you are you BEFORE you trade in linden dollars for USD.  We just saw someone here a couple of days ago who couldn't get it to work (many reason for this) and then was stuck with a USD balance and had to change that back into lindens.

So keep that in mind.   Some folks in Sansar (also cashing out via Tilia) NEVER got to cash out --- this after five years there.   So there are issues that can sometimes be rectified and sometimes not.

Per the latest knowledgebase info, the process will usually take 2 business day , but could take 5 business days:

Quote

The following table provides an estimate for when you should receive your USD in your account based on the day of the week you submit your request. You should expect to see the USD in your account on or before the date listed. For most requests, you should receive payment to your PayPal or Skrill account within two business days. However, for a minority of requests, this process may take five business days.

Business holidays in the US will extend the two or five business day window by one day.

Requested Day Two Business Days later Five Business Days Later
Monday Wednesday Following Monday
Tuesday Thursday Following Tuesday
Wednesday Friday Following Wednesday
Thursday Following Monday Following Thursday
Friday Following Tuesday Following Friday
Saturday Following Wednesday Following Monday (Eight calendar days later)
Sunday Following Wednesday Following Monday (Seven calendar days later)
